Running outside vs running on a treadmill
ad
I'm curious as to if there is a favorite between the two. I love running outside, however, in my later years it's seemed to take a tole on my back and knees. Should I switch to the treadmill, bike ect? Any advice helps. Already seeing a doc for my back. I'm not crippled, but I'm not good either. Should I stop all together while undergoing fixing myself? Doc gives me exercises to do at home. Just isn't enough for me. I'm dying over here not being able to train.

I sweat like a MoFo, so running on a treadmill is a plus for me, able to do a pre-programmed HIIT circuit and able to do it only wearing my undies, since I sweat so much....When I'm finished, I'm totally drenched, but the job is done!
I run on the treadmill, outside would be best but my lower back doesn't permit it, i would end up w sciatica & knees hurting. Damn chronic injuries suck, but we must adapt and overcome, best wishes stay safe!
I have a Great Dane. He's not really built for endurance haha. I agree though, outside is where it's at.
Outside all the way. The husky can come with me that way and he's always up for a run.....
Yeah I'll try uphill. My calves get pumped but it's now unbearable. The heal strike makes sense. Thanks brother!
Toe running, not letting your heel strike the ground, eliminated my knee problem while running outside. It did take some time to get used to it. Your calves are just not used to the work of keeping your heel from striking. Don't really run over 1-2 miles anyway. Just not built for it, too heavy. Treadmill sucks. Don't get the ham and glute involvement because you really don't have to push off. Creates muscular imbalance. You might want to try running uphill outside also. Less heel strike.
I agree, the treadmill is just so boring. I dont even want to do it anymore after say 15 minute dive tried different soles, shoes, everything. Getting old sucks lol
For some reaoson I can't run outside anymore. Within like 5 mins I have terrible pumps or shin splints I don't even know what to call it but it doesn't happen on the treadmill. I think overall the treadmill would be better for you. it's smooth and even unlike running outside. I have a fucked up back running really gives me problems.
