Is Bill Belichick really that good?
Well what do ya know, the Patriots just won another playoff game. Although he has Brady, do you think he is that great? Brady is a once in a lifetime player and future Hall-Of-Famer. As a 6th round pick out of Michigan, he busted onto the scene to win their first Super Bowl. He is an amazing player and I don't believe Belichick could have done what he did, and is currently, with a different QB.
If my memory serves me correct, he wasn't the genius he is considered now. As a younger coach for the Cleveland Browns he took over for a team that was 1 season away from being defeated by Elway's Broncos for the third time in the '89 AFC Championship game. At the time the Browns had a QB, Bernie Kosar, that won a College National Championship at "The U". He took the Browns to the playoffs in his first 5 seasons and 3 AFC Championship games. Bill Belichick was hired after the Browns had failed to make the playoffs for Kosars 6th consecutive year and in 1990 and 1991, Kosar set a league record by throwing 308 consecutive passes without an interception, which stood for almost two decades (surpassed by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady on December 26, 2010.
The Browns were not good during the Belichick Era. The team only went to the playoffs 1 year, in '94, defeating his future Patriots led by Drew Bledsoe and then losing to a divisional opponent, the Steelers. While coaching in Cleveland he compiled a 36–44 record and ended up benching Kosar after his '93 MNF victory over the 49ers, for Vinny Testaverde, and later trading him. In Belichick's last season in Cleveland the Browns finished 5–11, despite starting 3-1. In November of that year in the middle of the ongoing football season, Browns owner Art Modell had announced he would move his franchise to Baltimore after the season. After first being given assurances that he would coach the transplanted Baltimore Browns (Ravens), Belichick instead was fired on February 15, 1996, one week after the shift was officially announced. Belichick's years as a head coach were so sub par that he was not hired as another head coach for 5 NFL seasons.
In 2000, after being the NY Jets head coach for 1 day and resigning on a napkin, the Patriots hired Bill Belichick as their new head coach, succeeding the recently fired Pete Carroll. The Patriots went 5–11 in the 2000 regular season and missed the playoffs, his only losing season with the Patriots, and also the only year in which Tom Brady did not start at quarterback in any regular season games. In the '01 season the Patriots starting QB Drew Bledsoe went down with an injury mid-season. In came Tom Brady, an undiscovered College National Champion, to win the Super Bowl that year and from then on he has had nothing but greatness. '03 and '04 were Super Bowl winning years for the Pats and also going to the big game in '07 and '12, losing both to the Giants.
Belichick couldn't have done it without Brady. Brady has the sixth highest career passer rating of all time (95.7) among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 career passing attempts. Also, in 2012, Brady became the first quarterback in NFL history to lead his team to 10 division titles. Brady and Joe Montana are the only two players in NFL history to win the NFL Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl MVP awards multiple times. Brady and John Elway are the only two quarterbacks to lead their teams to five Super Bowls. He was also named the NFL MVP in 2007 and 2010 (becoming the first player to be unanimously chosen as MVP in the 2010 season) as well as 2007 Male Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press, the first time an NFL player has been so honored since Joe Montana won the award in 1990. After the 2010 season, Brady was ranked as the best player in the NFL.
So what are your thoughts? Is Bill Belichick riding Tom Brady's coattails into the Hall of Fame and what will he do without him, retire? I want to hear from you Patriot dick kissers and you cock-sucking NY fans, like you need to bitch about not winning enough.

He wasn't that good in Cleveland because it starts with ownership. He was that good with the Giants as both a linebacker coach and defensive coordinator and won 2 SB's there as an assistant. He has won 3 in NE as a head coach. The common denominator is that both G-men and Pats have outstanding ownership that allows coaches to do their job and are not afraid to give then the tools on the field to win. But I think his biggest attribute is his uncanny ability to take players and put them in position to succeed and/or excel based on their abilities. Case in point Mike Vrabel. I am a diehard Steeler fan and when the Steelers drafted Vrabel out of Ohio State they had no idea what to do with him. He was a classic "tweener", too small to play DE and too big/slow to play OLB in their 3-4 scheme. After a few unproductive years he went to NE and Belichik made him a household name. Granted he has benefitted from Brady, but he is still great.
The Browns had Art Model as their owner and they won 4 AAFL Championships ('46, '47, '48, and '49), plus 5 NFL Championships ('50, '54, '55, '56, and '64) before the merger. A coach could win for Art, just not a young inexperienced Bill Belichick. Also, the Ravens, under him, won one Superbowl and they won their last one with the system he left in place. Cleveland fans hate Art's guts for taking his team to Baltimore after the horrible Belichick Era. The Cleveland defenses under Belichick were good and that is what kept them in games, but his offensive skills sucked major wang. His favorite play on 3rd and 8 was Metcalf up the middle. He always took the ball out of Kosar's hands, which never made sense and when he traded him, you knew there was some animosity between the two. Now Kosar is hired by many NFL franchises for his cerebral abilities, he is a great evaluator of talent, which makes him a great scout.
I agree on Kosar. He was probably one of the best ever at reading a D. And yes they had a great D. I rememeber Minnifield and Dixon at CB and of course the original Clay Matthews. On offense they also had Byner and Mack and Ozzie Newsome. But lacked at WR. Brian Brennan, Webster Slaughter, Reggie Langhorne. If not for The Drive and The Fumble they would have gone to 2 SB's in the 80's. And would have had a much better chance than Denver I think.
They also had Eric Turner as their safety and he was pretty good in the early to mid '90s. I just looked him up and it stated he passed away early at the age of 31. Ozzie Newsome is the GM for the Ravens and he is obviously doing a great job. Their playoff downfalls are legendary, almost as bad as Buffalo's.
The other thing he is great at is taking away an opposings offenses biggest strength and making them play away from their tendencies
Also people forget about who he's got waiting to take Brady's place. Ryan Mallot who's 6'7" 250lbs with a big time arm. I think Brady is good but I believe he's a system quarterback
He won 11 games with Matt Cassel. Belichick likes really good athletes that are really smart. He'd takes those guys over great athletes with attitudes or great nonteam player athletes anyday.

He is to smart to say anything different, he is groomed to say that. He is a classy guy, but if he says that after he retires then it is how he truly feels. We will just have to wait until then.
dredayHey he did it wit bledsoe the thing bout belichick is he takes guys that noone wants he sees there true potential welker woodhead brady blount etc the guy is amazing
Good point, he will take an undersized guy over a bigger more athletic one, if he feels that he can mold them into the player he wants for his system. Quite often he succeeds at that. I'm not saying he is not a great coach, I just don't believe he could have gone to and is going, without Tom Brady. Where would he be if Brady didn't fall into his lap? You cant tell me that Belichick knew Brady was going to be a stud, even though I hear rumors of Belichick wanting to draft Brady while taking over for Parcells, for the Jets. If he really thought that, why didn't he push harder and get it done? Remember he went all the way to the 6th round of the draft before anyone picked him. I always hear, if Brady played for the Jets, Belichick might of stayed there. Imagine Brady wearing a Jets uniform right now.
Great coaches always have to to have the QB. Bill Walsh needed Joe Montana. Chuck Noll / Terry Bradshaw. Tom Laundry/ Roger Staubach. Vince Lombardi/ Bart Starr. Don Shula/ Bob Griese. Any of the multiple Super Bowl winners needed them both!
I agree, some coaches are great, but they don't play on the field. What good is a great coach for a team if he doesn't have the players to execute his system properly? The QB position is the most important, there aren't any other positions in sports with that much responsibility. I also believe that coaches grow mentally with their QBs, as time goes by, when they are successful.
GearofWarYes. BB is THAT good, lol. He takes squad after squad of early season scrubs and turns them into late season studs, as evidenced by last nights lights out performance. Our squad is banged up and we're 2 and 3 deep at a few different positions yet we still find ways to win. "The Winnebago" had a fantastic game and special teams were outstanding. And to all of the haters that are about to scream: "Belichick and the Pats are cheaters!!" Let me just remind you that your guys still have to produce even if they're cheating. It's like everyone that call ALL OF US ON THIS SITE CHEATERS. They think that because we juice we are the biggest cheaters in fitness. They think that we shoot a few CC's and pop a few pills and wake up huge, and strong. They don't know that we still bust our asses in the gyms, on cardio equipment, and in the kitchens. We live a more dedicated lifestyle than the people that call us "cheaters". We actually work HARDER and SMARTER, and they hate on us for it. Because we want to be the best we can be. Well, put that example to use in Pro Football. My Patriots aren't cheaters but if you think they are just remember the hard work that still must go on behind the scenes to be champs. Cheats or not, you still have to mentally and physically be able to execute. And that has to stand for something at the very least. But who the fuck cares? We're going to the AFC championship game, AGAIN! Cause al we do is win. ;)
He's that Damn good
GearofWarThank you.
I hate him lol... But god damn hes good
GearofWarWell said. Love him, hate him, he's still one of the greatest coaching minds to ever play the game.
