Raw eggs

ad

So I'm on a tight budget and seeing that eggs are pretty cheap I've been adding 3-4 of them in my protein shakes: one scoop powder, milk, banana, tablespoon peanut butter, and 3-4 eggs (two yolks only). My doc said as long as the eggs have been pasturuzed there's no risk of samonilia. It makes my 5lb tub of protein go a lot further and the eggs are tasteless. Anyone else use raw eggs? Is my doc right or is there too much risk?

no issues with salmonella for a healthy adult, but the avidin in uncooked eggs will sap biotin from your body and cause a deficiency over a period of time...

As far as safety goes, as long as they're pasteurized, your good. Digestability is another issues. Others have addressed it below. Overall, eggs are a good, cheap form of protein.

I eat 60-70 eggs a week and never tried them raw. Im not bad ass enough for that. Props to you.

Ten eggs a day? Nice! How do you cook yours? I love some scrambled eggs but the less cooking I have to do the easier.

I must agree that eggs are a good cheap source of protein DoriDori but drinking them raw is something I just cant stomach. I tried it once , and even tried it again but I just cant do it. More power to you if you can :-)

I do however hard boil about 30 eggs a week though.

I've been doing it for about a month now. No stomach issues and no weird gas (sorry if TMI). So are they hard to digest or slow to digest or both? I believe my digestive system absorbs very healthy. On 5-6 500 calorie meals I only use the el bano twice. Correct me if I'm wrong but slow digesting macros are what I need right? All year round? Except directly after workouts I suppose....

Many different views on the whole slow digesting macro thing DD - IMO. A simple Google search will yield plenty of info regarding raw egg consumption. I myself would cook the eggs and wash em' down with my shake :-)

Cool! Just read that cooked eggs are "90%" available for digestion compared to "50%" raw. Cooking exactly helps the protein availability.
