Are we Narcissistic

ad

I've been trying to figure out what makes us push, change, transform our bodies the way we do?

Is it narcissism, egotism? possibly insecurity? are we alpha males and females? do we do it for the opposite sex?

are we simply superficial?? or does it come from a healthier place inside us all??

what is the common thread the runs though us all?

Isn't it funny how hair can change a person's perception of you. I'm normally clean shaven, head n all. Sometimes I'll get a wild hair, hehe.... let the hair grow, shave a mohawk, bleach that bitch, porkchops down the side of my face, couple hoop earrings.... next thing you know managers/security following me around every store I go to thinking I'm gonna steal their shit, LoL Oh and yes, most women give that look, you know "Get the F away from me you fckn weirdo" ..... which is partially true BTW.... ;-)

alayna's picture

i wld def like to see a pic of that beard lol

Pale's picture

Sounds to me like it is you that wants to be an alpha but you don't believe in yourself. There are many different levels of alpha male and female, matter of fact I think we just had a thread on it here not long ago.

Disregard, I just read the rest of your posts.

So if there is a 160 lb alpha who walks into a room commanding respect followed by a 260 lb alpha also commanding respect does that make the smaller guy no longer an alpha? There is always someone who is bigger or more alpha. In the canine world there are several alphas in a pack. Canines actually hate to be the leader but if no one steps up to the plate then the most alpha member leads until he can't any longer. Then he moves over the next alpha. He doesn't stop being an alpha just because he is no longer the leader.

This is like a riddle like the indian and the 2 paths kinda thing......

XvBeast's picture

I doubt there are really very many true alpha men here. <

actually there are alot of alpha males in here , high testostrone is the number 1 reason for alpha male. being a big is also a characteristic of being an alpha male

Nitti's picture

I doubt that there are really very manly true alpha men here

So someone who you maybe don't consider to be a true alpha isn't a real man? Sounds like you believe that being an alpha has to do with how big you may be. Being an Alpha is a state of mind. It's a persona. An essence. I see an alpha as someone comfortable in their own skin. Confident with a little edge. Not how big they may be. I know a hand full of 160lb fighters who I would consider Alpha males. They command respect just with their presence. I agree with part of your point tho. Mostly inferiority complexes and vanity. For various reasons (this is just an opinion as obviously i don't know many of you) but the Alpha= manly part? Ehh! There is a lot more to being a man than your size or where you may place yourself in the pack.

Nitti's picture

Its not easy to decipher someones tone in print

Nitti's picture

I agree. Size is a factor for sure. In nature the biggest strongest male wins the mate. We evolved past that I think, But as for being a man, i don't think someone needs to be an alpha to be a real man

alayna's picture

ok since im a woman im gonna weigh in on what is an alpha .....an alpha male is a man imo that is strong and confident in a quiet kinda way...he commands respect like you said bec of his presence....its an energy he omits...there is something in him that a woman knows she can be protected by him...she know he'll walk away when its right but stand up to defend her honor or that of his family....he is a leader of this there is no doubt...size has little to do with it, although most are physically strong...

I love the beautiful highly intelligent women on here!!!! ^^^^^^^

alayna's picture

thank you ;0)

Nitti's picture

A womans perspective...... and since the purpose of life is to find a mate and procreate , does any other perspective matter?

alayna's picture

Nope not at all! Smile

Nitti's picture

When you walk into a room and every guy in there puts his head down and avoids eye contact while all their women look up and try making eye contact,..it can become a bit of an ego trip. We are all vain on some level. But that's just a side effect. The original purpose remains health, for me anyway.

EmeraldLaoch's picture

LMAO I fucking love that. It used to be the other way around when i was mr tiny hands. Now the dudes take one look at me and kinda give a nod, like "youre ok, i dont want any" and their girlfriends give me the deer in head lights. Love it.

Nitti's picture

I love the Nod. Like they are checking to make sure "We're cool right bro?' LOL

alayna's picture

ya know Nitti the same thing happens to me except when i walk in a room the women make eye contact with me then their man who put his head down because he doesn't wanna get slapped lol lol lol

dandog's picture

My gosh, alayna, exaaaactly right, I have to do that when a pretty girl walks by. Its hard not to look but the drama that would ensue keeps me in check. LOL

bigrigger's picture

I'm alpha male. To be a leader of men and women it helps to look the part. I love to be strong! I'm 54 yrs old and am still a high steel rigger, and everyone I work with is half my age and I still kick there ass all day long. Also just last night while buying groceries a 20 something hottie could not keep her eyes off me! She just hovered around me the whole time I was in the store. Not that I was going to do anything about it,but its nice to know that I could!

alayna's picture

You should have winked at her then kept going...women love that its kinda like yr mysterious

alayna's picture

i think everyone you work with is half yr size too!!

Pale's picture

I think to a large degree we are just into ourselves, I wouldn't go as far as narcissistic. For me it is about wanting to live and refusing to just grow old quietly. 3 out of 4 males in the generation before me were dead before 62 and one before 41 of heart disease. I need to believe it was lifestyle more than genetics..

alayna's picture

Well actually many of the males over 40 livin today will die prematurely or live a sick life all the way up to their death....most doctors still do not acknowledge low testosterone in many causes all kinds of health risks and even death....you are right on point!

Pale's picture

I started at the gym four years ago within weeks of my fathers death. I wasn't in terrible shape but I was definitely "out of shape". I really didn't used to care if I died young, but as you start getting closer to that potential date with destiny your perspective changes, at least mine has. I love being almost 40 and in the best condition of my LIFE! If I do check out early it will not be for a lack of trying on my part.

dandog's picture

Honestly, I'm sorta like Beavis. My wife is a knockout and I'm 10 years older so have to keep them young bucks in check. Plus, I don't mind it when women look at me and then whisper about me. I like the attention. ;)

alayna's picture

Thank You Beavis...btw choosing yr wife and bodybuilding over booz and drugs validates one of my theories that sometimes it comes from a healthier place within us...so props to you Smile

XvBeast's picture

i do it because if i dont then I will be fat and no one wants to be fat

avocado13's picture

I haven't found a mirror I didn't like

alayna's picture

not even the mirrors with darkened glass? ;0)

EmeraldLaoch's picture

short answer, yes. all of it. the important part is to remember that its not shameful. its how we are built and its how we will be. people get addicted to raping kids... which... is obviously... bad. what WE do doesnt hurt anyone. in fact it makes us sexier and have more sex with each other and procreate more beautiful people that care about how they look to themselves and prospective partners... which... is obviously... a good thing.

Great post, great question, needed to be asked.

alayna's picture

hmmmm no u dont lol which is a good thing Smile

LOKI 1's picture

I personally enjoy the pain that we go through to transform our body. The pleasure I get from doing just one more rep or running one more mile. I look forward to the burn in my muscle(s) and I love DOMS! It makes me feel alive!

alayna's picture

i feel exactly like you ..what are DOMS?

Delayed onset muscle soreness,, The day or two after workingout when you feel sore.
