High intensity vs Low intenstity Cardio

ad

I'm not looking for which one burns more fat, but rather which one promotes better cardiovascular endurance and cardiovascular health.

Everywhere I look all I see is cardio to burn fat this and cardio to burn fat that and I'm already pretty much where I want to be in terms of body fat. That being said my heart is weak as shit for some reason. My resting heart rate is always around 100 and whenever I do light cardio my heart rate is always around 70-80% of my max heart rate and if I try to do intense cardio my heart rate jumps to around 90-97% of my maximum heart rate.

I want to build a stronger heart, but I don't know how or why mine is so weak as shit.

Workout in a gas mask always made us more in shape back in my enlistment days Smile

Horses for courses,

both have been proven to have relatively similar gains in mitochondria density and cadiovascular gains, whilst high intensity work outs reportedly give greater VO2max and better EPOC gains.

Just do which one you enjoy doing the most, you'll end up doing the other one as well just out of boredom of routine once your doing it regular enough.

Or workout in an oxygen mask. There actually is a brand of oxygen masks that are for athletes to help promote VO2 max. They look like the mask bane wore in batman. I personally wouldn't ever wear one to the gym but if I had some extra money I'd pick up one to use at the home gym

That's nuts. Depending on the setting you have, running can make you panic.

Just throwing some info at ya. Sorry for even offering. Best of luck with whatever you're trying to do.

Who are you again? Haha you're like a layne norton follower huh?

You talk alot like him. What are your degrees in? What are your stats?

Chem. eng. eh? I studied some pharmacology back at KSU awhile ago.

Yeah I like to think the same shit man, the pharm I studied really helped me understand receptors and all that good jazz.

It's ok man, understandable.

lordoftheoctagon's picture

It's a small piece I out together from the references listed. Any issues with that?

I was looking for that! Thanks bud!

lordoftheoctagon's picture

Hope you get some good stuff out of it.

Well I guess it just works for everyone else.

I don't know bud. HIIT is just an acronym for an action. I hear actions, when done with purpose and determination leads to results. My cardio sucked, I did HIIT for 6 months until I could barely get my heart into the 160's then I started running and biking. Since then I've ran a marathon, two half marathons, and a handful of 10k's. was HIIT the reason I was able to do that? IDK. Would I have been able to achieve that without HIIT? Probably, either it doesn't matter because it worked, and it worked because I worked it.

I am not a doctor and can't answer your heart issue. Assuming you are a healthy individual. High Intensity Interval Training is going to increase cardiovascular health the quickest. I agree with alloneword. However you can start at a 1:3 ratio (work:rest), the key is that the work portion is balls out all that you've got. Immediately after the work period you may want to throw in the towel but by the time the rest period is over you'll be ready to go!

High intensity for cardiovascular health. If your heart rate sitting is 100, you may want to see a doctor. There could be more going on beyond cardiovascular health.
I use to weigh 300lbs and was a drinker/smoker, I remember how shitty my cardio was. I did HIIT. High intensity interval training. I started at 30 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity and worked it until I could do 1:1 ratio.
