High intensity vs Low intenstity Cardio
ad
I'm not looking for which one burns more fat, but rather which one promotes better cardiovascular endurance and cardiovascular health.
Everywhere I look all I see is cardio to burn fat this and cardio to burn fat that and I'm already pretty much where I want to be in terms of body fat. That being said my heart is weak as shit for some reason. My resting heart rate is always around 100 and whenever I do light cardio my heart rate is always around 70-80% of my max heart rate and if I try to do intense cardio my heart rate jumps to around 90-97% of my maximum heart rate.
I want to build a stronger heart, but I don't know how or why mine is so weak as shit.

Workout in a gas mask always made us more in shape back in my enlistment days
Horses for courses,
both have been proven to have relatively similar gains in mitochondria density and cadiovascular gains, whilst high intensity work outs reportedly give greater VO2max and better EPOC gains.
Just do which one you enjoy doing the most, you'll end up doing the other one as well just out of boredom of routine once your doing it regular enough.
waltrdo cardio at higher altitudes.
rock climbing, mountain biking, etc..
less oxygen will force your lungs to try and grasp harder for oxygen as well as for your heart to pump more of it so your body can function.
i don't know if this is even possible for you where you live, but just a thought
Or workout in an oxygen mask. There actually is a brand of oxygen masks that are for athletes to help promote VO2 max. They look like the mask bane wore in batman. I personally wouldn't ever wear one to the gym but if I had some extra money I'd pick up one to use at the home gym
Terephthalic Pt...Hahaha. I live at sea level. Not really something I can do. I wanted to make one of those hypobaric chambers, but it got too expensive too fast.

Terephthalic Pt...I love you man (no homo).
Dayum that's a nice idea. It's so simple and yet I never would have even thought to look for something like that. Never seen or heard of anything like it.
I wish I could actually +1 you.
Terephthalic Pt...Aww spoke too soon. It was a nice idea for a product, but it just limits the amount of air you receive. It doesn't lower the concentration of the oxygen in the air.
This doesn't actually do the same thing. This just trains your diaphragm to expand more which allows you to take in a greater volume of air.
It doesn't actually affect your bodies ability to saturate oxygen via higher hematocrit.
Bummer. The same result could be obtained from restricting your breathing through a straw. larger straws would be easier and less restrictive and smaller straws would be harder.
waltrthere was a dude at my gym running on the treadmill with one of those a week or so ago
That's nuts. Depending on the setting you have, running can make you panic.

Terephthalic Pt...lol. Yeah seems legit. All references are 404'd and from a noncredited website.
Not to mention that once again it's centered around fat loss which I couldn't care less about.
Just throwing some info at ya. Sorry for even offering. Best of luck with whatever you're trying to do.
Terephthalic Pt...I don't really accept any info which isn't backed by scientific findings. Misinformation is so prominent in bodybuilding that it's just not worth believing anything you hear unless it's backed by something credible.
Who are you again? Haha you're like a layne norton follower huh?
Terephthalic Pt...I'm not familiar with him. I'm just a chemist who hobbies in bodybuilding.
You talk alot like him. What are your degrees in? What are your stats?
Terephthalic Pt...I have a BS in chemical engineering and I'm 5'8, 170 23yrs. Around 8% bodyfat.
Chem. eng. eh? I studied some pharmacology back at KSU awhile ago.
Terephthalic Pt...That's cool. I can't really say my major has really helped me with anything in the bodybuilding world, but I like to think I'm smarter than the average bear and am able to use that to my advantage.
I'm sorry for snapping btw, bad habit. Might be because I'm young or maybe it's because I ran a cycle and there's longer term side effects. Dunno, it was rude of me when you were just trying to help.
Yeah I like to think the same shit man, the pharm I studied really helped me understand receptors and all that good jazz.
It's ok man, understandable.
It's a small piece I out together from the references listed. Any issues with that?
I was looking for that! Thanks bud!
Hope you get some good stuff out of it.
Terephthalic Pt...That's funny since I've talked to my cardiologist about HIIT and he just laughed. Said hiit was just a fancy acronym for what people have always done when it comes to cardio which is run for as long as possible then walk for a little while then repeat again and again.
I have to agree with him there I've tried HIIT and it's just an easier version of pure high intensity training which is what I already do.
I already see a doctor, and not only a doctor a cardiologist. He didn't offer anything of substance and neither did you two.
Well I guess it just works for everyone else.
Terephthalic Pt...Not really. I see people doing it all the time and they don't seem to be getting anywhere faster than they would without interval training. It's not like everyone is all of a sudden losing fat and becoming crazy good at cardio.
Things are pretty much how they always have been.
Just another bandwagon people jump on. Like p90x or crossfit this will be replaced by some other amazing workout tool.
I don't know bud. HIIT is just an acronym for an action. I hear actions, when done with purpose and determination leads to results. My cardio sucked, I did HIIT for 6 months until I could barely get my heart into the 160's then I started running and biking. Since then I've ran a marathon, two half marathons, and a handful of 10k's. was HIIT the reason I was able to do that? IDK. Would I have been able to achieve that without HIIT? Probably, either it doesn't matter because it worked, and it worked because I worked it.
I am not a doctor and can't answer your heart issue. Assuming you are a healthy individual. High Intensity Interval Training is going to increase cardiovascular health the quickest. I agree with alloneword. However you can start at a 1:3 ratio (work:rest), the key is that the work portion is balls out all that you've got. Immediately after the work period you may want to throw in the towel but by the time the rest period is over you'll be ready to go!
High intensity for cardiovascular health. If your heart rate sitting is 100, you may want to see a doctor. There could be more going on beyond cardiovascular health.
I use to weigh 300lbs and was a drinker/smoker, I remember how shitty my cardio was. I did HIIT. High intensity interval training. I started at 30 seconds high intensity, 1 minute low intensity and worked it until I could do 1:1 ratio.
