When you squat do you use that pad.

I was wondering that when your squatting does anyone use that pad for that wraps around the bar for padding on your trap area? I see other guys who put on 1 plate on each side and use the pad. Right now im only up to 3 plates and it doesn't bother me. I guess if your using 5 plates and up it can be heavy against your trap area.. Also when do you guys think knee wraps should be incorporated in leg routines?

I use the pad when I front squat more than 275
How the fuck do you a pad on fronts lol?
When I first began squatting I used the pad. I stopped using it admittedly because some old school gym rats gave me shit for using it. I get along just fine without it.
At the moment just the bar doesn't bother me. I have a feeling when I get to heavier weights I might want to use the pad for support.
I don't use the foam But I'm not putting up five plates either
Wow love the heavy lifter round here; very motivating
I love to do squats as they behind deadlifts are supposed to build the core like no other exercise does!
I will say I also hate the smith machine with the "balanced" bar but doing them freely is kinda scary although the fear of embarrassment from falling over gives you that drive to stand up and lift it so its good in many ways
I don't like the smith because I want to work smaller accessory muscles around the large muscle groups doing most of the lift!
Good post
Wardi77I have never used the pad, I like the feeling of weights on my back, it challenges me, as weird as it may sound. I just flex my traps by pulling my shoulder blades together and let the bar rest on top. I wrap my knees normally on my heavy sets, five plates or more, I find that it helps stabilize my knees and I feel safer especially when going heavy. I do not wrap them super tight, to the point where it cuts circulation to my legs but tight enough for precaution. I use a cardillo powerlifting belt after warmups, ill wear it starting at four plates then it stays on until my last heavy set then comes off for the last set of 1 plate for 20 reps.
i use it, i have huge traps, and the bar bothers me a lot.
way back when i first started lifting because of football all the kids would make fun of you for using the pad. So yea kinda conditioned not to use it. Now i love the feeling of just the bar on my back
I dont see why u wouldnt want to use the pad, why go out your way to be in pain, save yourself the discomfort and a distracted routine and use the equipment if its available lol.
hey nitti do you use knee wraps and a weight belt.
Knee wraps ,no. I'll use lift straps on pull exercises. And I use a belt when I feel the need. Probably 40% of the time.
I just got versa grips. Enjoying them.
If I don't use the pad (weight doesn't matter) I get bruises across me shoulder blades and neck. Yes I use the pad for 225lb warm ups and all. I would use it with 1 set of plates. Wouldn't matter. No reason not to. I'm damn sure not worried about lookin like a pussy. I want my technique and form perfect. If I'm distracted by a pesky pain in my shoulder blades from the bar, it fucks the whole set up
for me its different, if i use the pad i feel like it sets it up high on my neck which tips me forward....w/o the pad im able to set it down lower between my traps and my balance is a whole lot better
I was going to say the same thing. It just feels like the bar is right where it is supposed to be with no pad. If you are more comfortable with it tho, more power to you.
If I lift that bar without that pad, I get an irritating pain right at the inner trap and neck. The bar literally leaves bruising. I'll take a pic for you when I do legs Thursday. I'll do it without the pad.
I use the pad but only because I been using since high school when I had no traps to set the shit on and now just because its what I have always done not even sure if it makes a difference.
I will check that out.
Read this month's muscular development. There's an article that says knee wraps for powerlifting yes...bodybuilding no.
I also noticed that I have better form squatting freely than with that smith machine. I wonder if people are afraid of real squats. I would think if you are using really heavy weight you would want to wrap up your knees for support.
put the bar at the bottom of your traps. no reason for the pad and you makes you use way better form. works for me at least
Yeah I've always found the pad rolls the bar too high towards my neck. Screws my form all to shit.
forget that pad, pop your traps up and let it sit right on em. ive never used knee wraps but thats a good question...looking forward to hearing peoples opinions
