+ 1 What time do you train and why do you train then?

ad

Ok so I have my ideas as to the best time of the day to train and why. I am asking this to gauge others opinions on this topic. See I prefer to train in the afternoon as I feel better and stronger, but I also think that the later you train the more you are hampering your recovery. The later you train the lesser amount of meals (Protein,Carbs & Fats) you take in to aid in recovery. Now one of the first things I think most people will say train in the morning as your hormone levels are higher. My hormone levels are always high. I supplement them by taking artificial hormones (AAS) so that argument flies straight out the window. So if you could when would you train if you could at any time? Look forward to hearing from you all.

During the week I go in the afternoon around 6ish. Fridays and weekends I like to go in the morning. Gyms less packed. I have a clear mind. Pre workout doesn't keep me up all night -_- I don't feel as strong necessarily, but I feel I get a better quality of workout in the A.M.

poofinger's picture

Ive tried training at 5am, slamming 1500cals either side of the workout, never works, feel weak ect.. Fucks my sleep too, getting up at the arsehole of dawn 3x a week screws me around too much..
Plus the whole morning boner thing seems to piss people off at the gym?

Usually 7-8pm now days

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah most people dont like looking at a babies arm holding an apple while they train mate. Hahaha

dudsy's picture

Always train between 4-7pm. This works well with the carb backloading nutrition plan im following.

wallabokkie's picture

Good on you mate. Staying committed to school and training. Smart move.

swolltroll's picture

Usually I have two or three meals in me before I go. Never on just one meal. 2pm

wallabokkie's picture

That's it mate hey. Feed the machine.

The way my week is planned i get to train thurs/fri from 11am sat/sun from 9am its the only way it fits in with our other comittmants and works well for me... i feel good at these times due to having some digestion time from earlier in the day and i find i am 20% stronger in the AM and can hit the gym like a mad bull, also i like to train with a free mind early training does not allow the normal days ups and downs cloud my focus, whereas later in the day my mind can get bogged down with work issues and such.

To summarise... AM training brings the best out of me.

wallabokkie's picture

If I could train every day at that 11-12 time I would as well mate. I feel that is definately the best time of the day. You have fuel in the tank to train and then stop by the petrol station and fuel up for the afternoon and night time.

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah I hear you mate. Why is it the older we get the more outside influences there are? You should of asked her if she wants her eggs fertilized and that you can help her out with that. Hahaha.

wallabokkie's picture

It still would have been fun trying to fertilize those mate. But yeah the swimers would be fairly non-existent while on test. Still would have been funny though.

popeboy1's picture

are you talking about the use of illagal steroids use.....tread im shoched to even think for one second you would use growth enhancers!!!!

VIKING EVOLUTION's picture

Do you not inject the juice from a can of tuna "I DO"

wallabokkie's picture

Though I was the only one who did that. I also snort protein powder and drink chickens blood. Especially the ones on hormones that tread mentioned.

popeboy1's picture

ya know i hear deer meat has quite a bit more protein than beef, i dont know how true this is but its worth looking into

wallabokkie's picture

If it is I still wouldn't be able to eat enough of it. That shit is bloody expensive down here mate. Just like everything else down here

popeboy1's picture

everythings cheaper in America lol Oh well except for women they are expensive no matter where you go lol

10000ngdl's picture

Sometimes I train a few hours after I wake up, sometimes I train with my brothers when ever we can meet up at the sametime, sometimes I take a day off. So I dont really have a set schedule.

wallabokkie's picture

Fair enough. Go and train when the urge hits you. That's good though mate.

RickRock1086's picture

4am in the morning before i go to work on empty stomach. Then afterwards drink a shake eat one meal and go to work. Can't eat before workout is too early in the morning i feel like throwing up!

wallabokkie's picture

Shit man. There is no way I could do that. Train that early and with no nutrients in me. I need to fuel the body to be able to train effectively. Do you have a BCAA drink before, during and straight after your workout. See the biggest problem is the sleeping. You have been fasting for several hours and you are in a catabolic state from not eating. Then you go and train and go further into that state. By doing that you could really be slowing down your progress bro. Would be happy to try and help you out mate.

RickRock1086's picture

Actually yes, i bring me BCAA powder mix it up with water and drink it while i'm working out. But hell may be that's why i can't get any bigger then, imma try and eat something before i go work out and see how it goes. Any suggestions bro?

delray00's picture

I tend to be stronger with 4 meals in me, but do to my schedule I have been training in the a.m. with one meal in. I am not tired nor weak but do not feel powerful like I would having more food.
If you train with time left to eat a good solid meal, it should not effect you in the recovery department.
But if your training insane, most people can not sleep for 2-6 hours post anyways due to metabolism. I am not one of these people though.

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah I see what you are saying. I do feel better with a few meals in as well. But I think that only having 1 feed after training and then going to bed for the night isn't the best way to grow. You have gone into a catabolic state while training then come home eat 1 meal then go to bed. I think this is hampering growth as you are fasting during the night and your body needs nutrients to fully recover. That 1 meal after training is digested and used up so fast man. After I train and eat that first meal within 60-90 minutes I am starting to get hungry again and need to eat. But again this is just my very simplistic view of training and diet bro. Good luck with it.

popeboy1's picture

I was training every day around 6pm-9pm but this new job im working has some weird as fuk hours and now i get in where I can fit in. Lat night I got off work early (thursdays being my light night at work) so I went to the gym around midnight, but normally now im going around 1pm-2pm basically when ever I can go, I do alot of working out from the house as well and blowing the roof off da gym on the week ends (sat, sun, and mon)

wallabokkie's picture

That's it mate. Train when you can. We all can't just train when it suits ourselves. Life has a habit of getting in the way at times. Work, kids and just life in general. Keep it up mate.

juice 2's picture

2:07pm. I try and get there at 2, but am usually late and by the time I put all my shit on and take all my shots it's 2:07.

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah I bet those 7 minutes drag on haha.

juice 2's picture

Lol. Most of that time is spent prepping injections =)

HllwdBdBoy's picture

I train at the crack of ass in the a.m.
I don't have a conventional lifestyle and can be thrown many curveballs through the day so first things first, get my lift on that way its done out of the gate with no interference

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah it's a pain when life gets in the way of the gym. Haha

levelup's picture

i cant do weights in the morning. i just dont feel like im all there. i go in the evening after work somewhere bt 6-8pm...drink a shake after and take in another meal so that should be enough for recovery

In a promo × 2
wallabokkie's picture

I know what you mean with the morning training. Do you feel that you are getting enough nutrients in after your gym work? I think that after a hard training session you need far more food than a shake and 1 meal to support growth. Thats just my opinion though mate. You could do your self a favor and try to eat 2 meals after training and have a shake before bed. You are better off eating calories than drinking them.

eire77's picture

i train 6:30 am im more morning person and iv no problems getting good intensity that early i kinda feel it sets me up for the day ' straight to work after that ' gives me more free time in the evenings ' but as nitro pointed out if you have had a shit day theirs nothin better than hittin it hard at the gym to relive some stress '

wallabokkie's picture

I would love to be able to train with 100% intecncity in the mornings. It's good that you can

NYMoto1's picture

When I feel like it between 6am-8am or between 10am-12pm, usually in the afternoon after eating a couple of meals I crash during Judge Judy 4PM EST. I always eat within one hour of training and every three hours.

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah miday seems to be the best time I feel to train. You are fueled up and ready to go as well as having enogh time left in the day to eat and support the body with the required nutrients post workout.

nitrogains's picture

Do you crash from post training or becuase of Judge Judy?

nitrogains's picture

I train in the evening after work where I have already had multiple meals. I've tried early morning training but I never felt like I had full strength or endurance to get the best workout in. I also find evening training to be a great stress relief from my workday.

wallabokkie's picture

Yeah mate I am an afternoon trainer. I feel stronger after a few meals and perform better as well. In the morning I feel as though I am not full awake yet and can't give the gym the effort it deserves.
