Torn Rotator cuff? Something close? Sore joint?>

ad

I was doing some incline dumbbell presses. Nothing heavy... So I know it wasn't the weight. But while I was warming up I was doing them pretty fast since they were lighter weights and on the last one I guess I pushed my arm more in a upward angle rather than flat and straight like I should have. Doing so, my shoulder popped out completely and then back in and had excruciating pain... I was so scared I broke something... which thinking back... thats retarded. But could anyone advise me on what happened?

Could it just be a sore joint/muscles?

Or at least tell me know long I should rest and what muscles?

This was for my right shoulder.

I also noticed I skipped 2 weeks of shoulder exercises, which no I feel may be the culprit....

Any help is appreciated guys

I've had numerous shoulder surgeries so i kind of know the ends and outs of what causes what, think of your shoulder as a ball and joint. Your capsule (fascia) is what holds that shoulder in place, a lot of times a dislocation tears that tissue and therefore that's why your shoulder could have popped out of place again from the torn tissue ive torn mine so badly before I couldn't lift my shoulder any bit laterally without it going out of place. Got my capsule fixed and not a problem since

Yes thats is how it feels. Everything around the joint is sore and feels like i stretched the hell out of it. I am taking a week off from my right side and gonna do some of these cable stretches you are talking about.

Does this fall under the rotator cuff rebuilding exercises?

Try stretching your shoulders before bench pressing, it works wonders for me. I was previously injured & end up stoping all upper body exercises for 3 months(recommend it by a doctor)

Sorry man but stretching a cold muscle is a big no no! It needs to be warmed up then stretched. An example is a cold rubber band being stretched

could you point in the right directed to some videos or articles? I'm very interested.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

Remember you also wanna stretch around where your training like your back if your doing shoulders, triceps to get blood in those areas as well. I warm up a solid 15 mins before every workout and have been injury free for years and stretch after a workout is just as important

I always looked like those people were crazy at the gym... looks like im gonna make some new bros. ahahaha

So what I took out of it. Do some cardio / stair master or whatever that weird walking thing is nowadays and THEN stretch.

THen proceed onto the lifts

I prefer light weights going through the motion and concentrate on the contraction no matter how light it is

Yes, my stregnth went WAAAAY up im on week 4 now. But I also dropped 10-20 lbs on the weights it was getting to scary. I knew I woulda blown something out. So now my focus is form and utilizing all the different planes of motion.(I think thats what theyre called)

I was never dislocated or anything, but the doc said I had very lose ligaments and or muscles and that if I did not train them I would deal with it for the rest of my life... so there ou go! Pin Cushion! You saved my life! I totally forgot about that.

I also too a nasty crash and broke my fib and tib which ended that dream.... guess I could always be a horse jockey sitting at 5'7 ahahahahhhaa

either one can mess you up. I prefer a motorcycle at least it has a throttle.

Hahahahaah yeah same here. I personally DO NOT like horses at all. I still race and and a local pro, but being in SoCal that's not saying much. I think everyone and their mom in professional sports is here hahah

braaaaaap

I used to have the same should pop in and out and the doc said I had to strainghten my muscles, but I never did... so that must be it.

Datsik's picture

Yes I used to race motocross... I was hoping it wasn't related to that.... I also was in a rush and did a shitty warm up and didn't even stretch the slightest bit...

It's slowly feeling better, but as you know its just that little annoying pain. But not enough paint to take paint killers and die a fat man ;)

ahha

Yea mild pain, lasts about three days. Stretching and warm up is key.

Have you dislocated or separated your shoulder in the past? I had a dirt bike accident that dislocated my shoulder and ever since it will randomly pop out. Hasn't done it for quite some time "knock on wood" but it is very scary and hurts like a bitch when it's out. When it's back in it's the greatest feeling in the world, but like you said it's sore for a couple days. I'm still scared when doing any shoulder or bench exercise. I use a little lighter weight and make sure to do slow smooth controlled reps, the fast jerky motions is what will give you problems. Make sure you warm up your shoulders before every workout, except maybe legs because they are used in most all exercises.

It didnt feel torn, it was just like when you pop a joint out and then back in. Then it's all sore... I just wonder how long I should give it a break. I think if it doesnt go away in a few days I will see a DR

If you look at this pic

infraspinatus tendon

subdeltoid bursa

or somethign in that region

Datsik's picture

I didn't lose much movement, I can still do all the weight, I just prefer not to injure it more if that is what happened.

Datsik's picture

Yeah, the pain is still there, nothing crazy. It feels like the ligaments/muscles just stretched waaaaaay out when it popped out and in. and now there is a lingering pain under the middle of my shoulder near the joint.

If ur shoulder popped out i wouldnt say u torn a cuff muscle, i tore cuff muscle once i felt a snap and a hot pain run up me back, and after i got home it was like a pulled muscle in ur neck didnt have much movment in my arm,so went to docs and got looked at and he said it was a tore cuff muscle, but if ur shoulder popped out id say that sumit else id get it looked at

Hearing a popping noise is never good, if the pain is still lingering I would get it checked out/ MRI . Better safe than sorry

Datsik's picture

Yes it was due to terrible form, but I was warming up being a complete dickhead,....
