The Bulgarian Method for Squat PR's
The Bulgarian Method and Squat PR's
A word of warning - this method involves squatting every single day of the week.
The Bulgarian method has a lot of mystique surrounding it; this is my experience with it.
History :
The Bulgarian method was developed by coach Ivan Abadjiev of Bulgaria to produce the most dominating Olympic Weightlifting team in the world (back in 1960). It is noteworthy to mention that the team has been caught using AAS multiple times (In 2008 the entire team was caught and removed from competition for DBol, and In this year alone 11 members of the Bulgarian team tested positive for aas). In fact Coach Abadjiev referred to AAS as "recovery agents" In his personal notes.
Is it right for you?
This method produced the best results when used with a good strength base. That means if you're 200lbs + and can't squat 500lbs, you're not ready for this program.
It's important to note that this is an effort based program. Don't focus on numbers, wen you're squatting this much numbers can fluctuate a lot.
The program:
Ideally you'd be squatting twice a day, split into a morning and afternoon session. Most people don't have that amount of time, so the afternoon session alone is fine.
Morning: You will be warming up to about 85% of your max, and done.
Afternoon: Max effort, no excuses. You may not hit a PR, or even touch your current one, but it is imperative you go all out. GO HEAVY. Not a painful squat, or a heavy squat. Pretty much until you get pinned. This is what makes the program work. Here are some guidelines for what the final sets should look like (presented by Pat Mendes):
"Hit 95% or more and you are done, call it
Hit 91-94% you got some work. Drop 10% get 3 doubles. Done.
Hit 90% or less more work drop 10% get 3 triples. Done." (Mendes)

My experiences with this program:
I tried this program when I ran my second cycle, a simple 12 week Test E cycle with a prop kick and taper. I used the full Bulgarian method during this time for all my Olympic lifts and my results were pleasing to say the least.
PR's before :
Snatch: 146kg (321lbs)
Clean and Jerk: 197kg (433lbs)
Squat: 287kg (631lbs)
After:
Snatch: 170kg (374lbs)
Clean and jerk: 225kg (495lbs)
Squat: 320kg (704lbs)
I'll let you be the judge of effectiveness
I decided to post this here because using this method in conjunction with AAS will produce the best results as recovery time will be shortened. Care should be taken to protect joints when using very heavy weights.
The method was also used by Pat Mendes to squat 800lbs raw as seen here:

*Patrick Mendes was suspended by the U.S. Anti doping agency for two years after testing positive for HGH

One last note about food:
On cycle I eat roughly 6000 calories a day. You gotta eat to be strong
