So we know that lactic acid helps build muscle and burn fat we also know that going for a pump at the end of your workout is a good idea and that training heavy is a must to gain mass. So my question is would doing rest-pause of 20 reps work? you can go heavy, get the lactic acid build up and get a pretty good pump. what do you guys think. trying to plan a new routine and need some input. experienced bodybuilders input would be nice.

Just like dossier said, Lactic acid doesn't burn fat, if it does then its news to me
o.k maybe not burning fat but it is needed to help build muscle. then again if you build more mass you then burn more fat.
Anonnot trying to knock what you're saying, bro, but truth be told, lactic acid possesses zero anabolic properties. it actually inhibits contractions when concentrations reach a certain level. outside of that, it can be converted into pyruvat molecules via the cori cycle and then used for energy. but to say it burns fat and builds muscle is inaccurate...
i do like the rest-pause concept for improving the lactate threshold, though. our bodies will adapt to most everything. the more the muscle cells are exposed to lactate, the better they are able to withstand the inhibition awarded by the acid.

The BIGGEST point to understand is this lactic acid formation will help you gain muscle mass. This is going to throw you for a loop…… The more lactic acid that forms (…in other words, the greater the burning sensation and pain…), the greater the amount of growth hormone (HGH) and IGF-1 forms as a response to that. Those two key hormones are big players in muscle mass growth and need no introduction...
In addition, when lactic acid forms in a muscle being trained, two processes called muscle satellite cell proliferation and muscle satellite cell activation come into play as a result. These two processes are also important pieces of the muscle gaining process. What happens is in response to mechanical strain, satellite cells become activated. Activated satellite cells initially proliferate as skeletal myoblasts before undergoing myogenic differentiation. This in simple terms means growth and repair.
Also, a result of lactic acid formation and low levels of blood oxygen within the muscle being trained, all muscle fibers are called into play to help out….slow-twitch, fast-twitch, etc. Meaning more muscle recruitment and contraction.
so in turn lactic acid will help build muscle. not trying to argue. what i'm getting at is that when you train to failure it's because of lactic acid that keeps you from being able to do another rep. and with out this you are not fully training the muscle.
Anonno doubt. that's good info. just wanted to clarify so someone didn't misconstrue and think that lactic acid has anabolic properties.
the process goes a bit deeper there in terms of the gh sysnthesis stimulation. it stems from the rising levels of cortisol that accumulate from strenuous activity. cortisol drives gh production. it is a homeostatic process.. cortisol is a stress hormone that is actually catabolic in nature. it is not natural for levels of cortisol to be elevated, so the body responds by stimulating an antagonist to suppress. it starts with cortisol driving gh production. gh has a direct relationship to serotonin. as gh levels increase, so do serotonin levels. serotonin is an antagonist to cortisol and will suppress the stress hormone.
so my question is would this idea work for building mass on cycle. let's say I pick a weight that I can get 8-10 reps rest 15-20 sec and then do 4-5 more reps and repeat the process until I reach 20 reps. or I could add more weight and get 5-6 reps and repeat the same thing until 20 reps.
