jacked84Currently I train 5 days a week I'm seeing pretty good strength and size gains from that my workout schedule looks like this
Mon: chest/bis/calves/abs
Tues: quads/hams/abs
Wed: back/tris /calves/abs
Thur: shoulders/forearms/abs
Fri: rest
Sat: I do a power routine where I do squats/flat press/deadlifts 3x3 of each lift not including warm-up sets and I perform my work sets at 85-90% of my max this is basically just a day I use to measure my strength gains.
Sun: rest
everyone's different, only way to know what's best for you is to keep accurate logs and body part measurements and try different programs for 10-12weeks at a time and grade results.
I've tried PHAT training and made solid strength gains but no size. I've tried Lee Haney's split and made decent size gains but not much in strength. I've tried Arnold's double split and overtrained myself in negative gains, as well I've followed more modern splits where each BP only gets trained 4x a months and made little gain too there.
Typically ectomorph types do better with more frequent training.
I train 5-6 days a week , you just need to gear it open how your body feels ! Ask yourself are you tired , soar , overtrained ? I go week by week if I need a day off I take if , I always have better lifts when I take extra days off
Gains will come with calories, resting the muscles, getting adequate sleep, and utilizing natural peaks of growth hormone, while on or off cycle. I agree with 5 days. I do four and try to throw in an extra routine like back, legs, delts & tris, or chest & biceps each week on an off day and continue a rotation with adequate spacing. Sometimes it just hard because of being fatigued and wanting to allow the muscles to rest.
this whole thing is a learning process, the best judge of when you should and shouldnt train is your body! learn to listen it. try 6 days if you feel tired or cant get good weights up from other muscles being fatigued then try 5, all stuff you got to figure out. there is some threads on this though
X2 some guys can train 6 days a week each bp 3x a week. Other's 5days each bp 1x a week and so fourth.. You gotta see what your body responds best too.
100% agree with RN. Your body has great feedback mechanisms - pain and fatigue. I you feel pain... STOP. If you feel fatigue... take a day off. Don't let others decide your routine because everyones body's and training styles are different.
Personally, I train 7 days a week because it works for me.
IN MY OPINION:
6 Days for SOME can be too much. But it depends on what your intended workout regime will be considering you'll be working out for 2 extra days.
When I'm OFF cycle, your workout above is very close to what I do. I just add in more abdominal work throughout the week.
But when I'm on a bulking cycle, my workouts split into 2 workouts a day:
Mon Morning: Chest. Evening: Triceps & Abs
Tuesday Morning: Shoulders Evening: Forearms & Abs
Wednesday Morning: OFF Evening OFF
Thursday Morning: Back Evening: Biceps & Abs
Friday Morning: Legs Evening: Calves
Saturday Morning: Light Chest (Dumbbell Flies and Dips ONLY) Evening: Abs
Sunday: Light Tricep & Bicep work with high reps, medium weights.
When I'm on cycle, I'm paying more for that particular period of time within my workouts, so I like to push myself that much more to get better results for my investment.
It works for MY needs, Mate.
