+ 1 Fasting training, yes or no?

ad

When it comes to training strategies, we are often immersed in a sea of information, some exact, some less so.
Which one of you has ever tried to train on an empty stomach? Surely there will be those who have benefited greatly, still others have not even completed their training.

Clearly I'm not talking about cardio (aerobic) training, where hormonal levels stimulate the lipolytic process. In this case our body will try to suck energy from fat deposits. I think fasting training is the best choice.

Weight training is very different.
There are many studies that show, even at the hormonal level, that this type of training is more effective. Others say the opposite. But I do not want to talk about this, the reading would become boring.

Personally, I often train in the morning, after 7/8 hours of fasting, regardless of the period in which I am (cut/mass), and the technique used.
On fasting, I feel the body much more active, whilst, on the contrary, it might find itself in a state of laziness during the digestion phase. Even if I train after 2 hours.
Using this protocol I feel very good also at the level of strength and I can also "load" without problems.
I only take one coffee, and amino acids bcaa. During the training session I drink only mineral salts. Once the training is complete, it is essential to integrate everything the body needs for muscle building.
In this case, each of us takes our own proteins, amino acids and more.

I wanted to share with you and your experiences, did you notice big differences?

If you want to grow eat, eat, eat... When you eat though is very important.. Timing is everything and what you eat as well. The more protein the more muscle. The more juice the more you’ll go beyond your genetic potential but you have to eat. I call it the juice to eating ratio. You can take all the juice you want if you’re not eating 8 to 10 times a day more and more every week. You will not grow or achieve your goals.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I have just started a new cycle with an average dosage (for some maybe it is low) but I want to eat 6/8 times a day. Small macros with at least 30g of protein.
The more juice you use, the less you will get at the end of the cycle. I agree.

It is really hard to train with a full stomach but with an empty stomach I don't know.
The question would be how to arrange the amount of emptiness,
But I definitely prefer running with empty stomach:)

I have to eat. I also train in the morning .. I throw down my coffee early and then a pbnj sandwich on the way to the gym .., I drink my protein during training and my post workout protein on the way home in the car .. then I eat again when i get home. I don't think I could complete my workouts without eating. I even pop glucose tabs for some quick bursts of energy or if I am feeling sluggish.

Why starve the body of carb's, fats and protein - Goes against the point of lifting weights doesn't it? ...

Yes. I agree. I notice the same characteristics. My schedule for the last year has had me exercising around the early a.m. hours, 0230-0330. I have had to keep my exercise times to under 20-30 minutes. I do feel as if I'm lighter, more energetic, mentally alert and focused during those times. I feel like I can clear my head and get ready for the day. I do, as well, have the coffee, small amount of creamer, 2 Arginine, and water during exercising.

This protocol is working very well for me. Let's use the last meal of the evening for our energy. I find more mental focus.

As you mentioned I do cardio on an empty stomach. however, when it comes to weights I find i need to carb up a bit to maintain heavy lifts. On an empty stomach I can't push the weights and feel catabolic.

I think it kinda depends on our individual metabolisms. I have a very high metabolism so training without a good carb/protein load is misery for me and I feel like I only get half the workout, if that. But with a good load of fast and slow carbs and healthy dose of protein my workouts are intense - heavier weight, more reps, more sets and have to make myself leave the gym vs barely finishing dragging ass out feeling beaten and frustrated. 150 grams of carbs (dextrose, maltodextrose, and steel cut oats) a banana, and 30-40 grams of protein before my morning workout gets the job done for me.

It depends on training style and goals. I think you can maintain or cut with fasted training. In terms of putting on mass I don’t think you’re going to be able to hit the loads or volume necessary to really progress. Maybe adding in some liquid carbs could help but 3-4 meals are always good to have in you before maximal effort.

I've also tried this fasting strategy. I couldn't really give it my best (in the big three), I noticed dizziness and a drop in energy.
I prefer to choose two days a month, preferably after meals. I agree

I train within 15 minutes of waking up. I used to do a protein drink first but I’ve cut my protein back. I haven’t noticed a difference either way.
Surprisingly I haven’t noticed any decreased size on the lower consumption. My calf size has actually increased some.
Having said that I’m in my mid 50s and have been training several decades. Could be different for a younger guy.

Dude Sam, you're in the best years. Enjoy them

If I couldn’t get in food before weight training I wouldn’t even bother going to the gym. I need the right amount of nutrition to power myself through the work out and push myself to the next level. There’s a big difference between just lifting the weights and pushing yourself.

Slowly's picture

Brother, did you notice a difference in strength? In this case, you also need to see what you eat in the evening as your last meal before you go to bed.

See I’m the other way if I even eat 1 cup of oatmeal I’m done for I have to train empty well I’ll drink a glass of milk before but I like to train eat then nap and then eat through the day

PPGfreak's picture

Oatmeal would so that to me as well. I stick with fruit like a banana or some strawberries and some peanut butter.

Slowly's picture

Sometimes I train in the afternoon and if I eat something before I prefer only meat or fish, in the end I always add dried fruit such as nuts or almonds. If I eat carbohydrates it's the end. It is also true that metabolism plays an important role, and mine is 40 years old. But the engine still works well lol

GreatSpear's picture

Cardio I’ll do first thing in the morning fasted, but doing full body lifts like squats and deadlifts make me lightheaded if I do them on an empty stomach. Gotta have something on my stomach first

333's picture

If I eat before I train I’m sloppy and cut out early I get exhausted fast it feels better for me to eat after training

Slowly's picture

When I train in the afternoon after eating even 3 hours before I feel lazy.
Sometimes we are fooled by habits. Clearly each case is different, there are work, family or other problems.
We need to know more about our own metabolism and energy pantries.

You are afraid to have a soda after a workout because it's bad for you - But yet you cycle steroids? Lmao ....

So much funny stuff on here.
