deadlifts...my new love
So all of the years I have avoided doing deadlift because I didn't want to build mass around the hips. I watch a video with mike o hearn and he said it pretty much bs how people think they are going to get a thick waist from deadlifting and squating. So about halfway through my last cycle I started doing a couple sets at the end of back days. I started light, around 225, which felt kind of heavy since I wasnt used to doing them. Since I started doing them my back/trap development has gone through the roof which is good but I need the size on my chest. Anyway in about a month and a half I went from having 225 felling kinda heavy to maxing at 405 and now I feel like I can clean the 225 and throw it through the ceiling. Also my squat has gone up significantly since starting deadlifts. I'm setting a goal for next cycle to add 100lbs to that. I might hit it before next cycle but thats a short term goal. There is something about lifting that much weight that has made me fall in love with the lift.

they seem to give me a boost on all my other lifts... even the bench.
Dead lifts are definitley a compound muscle builder, i like to tie them in on days i do hammies, gives them a good stretch and overall development tie in with gluteal and lower back. i mix it up with inclined locked legs which help condition the back using upperbody weight and leaving legs out of the equation; a great starter for any beginner trying to build their lower back. i can vouche that doing deadlifts and squats will not just visually improve upper and lower body but will make you much more powerful and grounded in virtually any lift.
AnonI look at deads as the best mass builder for back and several other areas that benefit from it. But think about this. Deads have to be the most primitive lift to man kind. Since man first came about we always picked things up off the ground. So to me, deads were the first lift ever created! Lol!
They are by far the best for functionality. The benefit of deadlifts will benefit us more than any other exercise imo. then squats a close second.
I love deadlifts too, but they are brutal while on dianabol ahah
deads also definitely help with forearms too
well I cant believe you never did em! lol one of the major lifts. Also your grip strength will go way up. Makes goin heavy on shrugs way easier. Whats your rep scheme?
Ive been doing just 5 reps 1 set lately. I was doing 12,10,8,6 and gettin burnt out I was having to breaks in between my periods.
lol yeah I bought into the hype about getting a thick waist. I have noticed a difference in grip stregth. Ive been going 5 reps for every set. I got 135x5 225x5 315x5 365x how ever many I can get. Some days I'll go a little higher on reps at 8-10 in the 225 to 275 range. I'm still getting used to regular form so I'll do that with lighter weight then go heavier in a sumo style.
I try and do it all raw rather than with straps and a belt
hell yea straps, belts and all that stuff takes away from raw strength. my buddy has worse grip strength than me because he alwauys uses straps. so when we deadlift and he doesnt have straps he always drops the weights mid-workout
About the only time I use straps is when I'm going higher reps or really long drop sets. It get to the point where I get such a big forearm pump that my hands turn to jelly.
