Transitioning to Clean Eating
I'm about 6 weeks back into the gym after a five year hiatus. My previous lifestyle, before taking that time off, it was fairly easy to eat clean, as I was single and 10 years younger. This time, I'm having a very hard time transitioning to clean
Part of the problem is that I have a wife, 10 y/o stepson and 3 year old daughter in the house now (problem with food: they're all great!) and while I don't like snack foods, I feel like it's rude to prepare food just for me. There's also not so clean food around where I never had to deal with that before. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can give me some guidance on how best to incorporate my lifestyle with the family's
The main issue I'm running into, is energy. My eating regimen, prior to the break was grilled chicken breast, tuna etc, with filet mignon grilled twice a week (had a butcher who made payments to me with whole beef tenderloins @ 1/4 sticker price...sure miss THAT). Now, even taking protein shakes prior and post workout, my energy level is zip. My blood sugar feels low throughout the afternoon (no prior issues with diabetes, a little with hypoglycemia if I drink too much caffeine)
I may need to transition over a little slower but figured I'd look for advice here, first. Thus far, this first cycle back has been phenomenal. Normally, I wouldn't worry about cleaning up my diet, this early in but I've never been in this bad a shape at the start. I've gained 18lbs in the first 6 weeks and while my pants aren't any tighter, they aren't a mm looser! As I said, it's primarily the feeling of low blood sugar and low energy that is driving me to eat whatever is available. It feels like a protein craving, more than anything but I'm definitely taking in enough of that!

Count your calories/macros!! Makes it so easy to eat clean and make sure your eating enough. The easiest way to count calories is through this app called myfitnesspal. Wow, i downloaded it a week ago and its awsome!!
there is no such thing as eating 'clean', too much fat will come from eating too many calories, not 400 calories of white bread vs 400g of organic zen ultra pure brown rice. log your food intake and don't go overboard with calories regardless of whether they are 'clean' or not.
well best way is start talk to your wife and have chat about food in house, next step is start cooking from scratch. and if snacks need be for children and even for you and your wife, there is plenty of healthy non junk snacks available
for yourself i will put some healthy snacks/small meals between main meals, so you can make food just for your self.
