Fat loss question?

ad

Hi,

I’ve been eating 2500 calories a day for 6 months and managed to lose 50lbs. I started lifting 2 weeks ago and lowered calories to less than 2000. The scale went up 1 pound in 2 weeks. I’m wondering if it’s normal to gain weight when initially starting a consistent lifting regimen. Not exactly sure but the scale didn’t show a decrease in body fat either, although it’s not finite it’s more or less accurate. What’s going on? What does anyone think?!

Don't worry about the scale weight can fluctuate several pounds a day simply by how much water you've drank or if you've pooped that day. Focus more on how you look in the mirror and how your clothes are fitting. I started my recent comeback at 270 I got down to 221 at one point and now I'm back at 230 but I'm down 4 inches in pants size, 2.5 shirt sizes and my abs are visible most mornings. So just relax enjoy the ride and watching your body change. Above all else stay positive and good luck with your transformation

Could be a couple things. As stated below, that long in that calorie range will slow your metabolism significantly. You’ll want to kickstart it with a couple high carb and/or high calorie days. Also, when we first begin resistance training, muscle grows fairly quickly, which is significantly denser than fat, so you’ll likely gain a few pounds at first. However, the weight gain is a function of positive body composition changes as fat is lost and muscle is gained.

Man I wouldn't worry about 1 pound. Our bodies fluctuate give or take a couple or so pounds a day. The time of day also can show a variance. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning and that'll be closer to your true weight. Your calories are kind of low. To your body, you may be in survival mode. If it's used to X amount of calories and you drop down 500+ your body will kind of freak out and slower your metabolism. So you'll lose at a much slower rate. Your body might be adding those calories to your muscle which isn't a bad thing. It varies from person to person. I'm no expert as there are various posts about this topic, but you may need to re feed yourself to get your metabolism going again.
