+ 1 Best protein for the dollar....

ad

Getting ready to order some whey. I'd like to get some input on the best protein for the dollar that you all have used.
Thanks.

Greek yogurt is $0.88 right now where I'm at for 18g protein. I eat this all the time. I know it's not powder but it is cheap lol

Pro Complex by Optimum Nutrition has been my protein for the last 6 months and I love it. I do 1 scoop(30g) AM with1 cup egg whites(27g), 2 scoops(60g) post workout. and at night 1 scoop(30g) with another cup of egg whites(27). Taste great and I get 174 grams of protein before any real meals.

I am in love with Muscle Pharm Combat Orange Creamsicle flavor. It doesn't do all kinds of weird stuff to my stomach and it is hands down the most delicious protein I've ever had (and I've tried a lot of different brands).

I know I posted this a few times before in the past, but I like the idea of designing your own protein mix. You can also add carbs, flavors, fats, plus vitamins and minerals. They have good prices and a nice selection of proteins to choose.

Wow this is Awesome!! I had no idea something like this existed!! Definitely going to try it out in the near future. Of course I just picked up a new jug of protein on my way home from the gym, but when I start to run low I know where I'm going.

I prefer 100% pure whey isolate myself. We use Synthetek exclusively.

I recommend getting what ever you chose from the Vitamin Shoppe website. Your second order you get 20% off you total order. So I just ordered something really small, and then I order an enormous order on my second order, with no tax and 2nd day shipping. I'm stock up big time now.

I really like the Optimum Whey Gold Standard, also Nutrabio is great place to get pure whey isolate, BCAAs, glutamine, etc. in bulk for really nice prices, and use KO2013 for 10% off.

I've been on Dymatize elite for years its as good as any. I have tried many more expensive brands and their is no reason to pay more. I buy it for 15.99 a tub

K.Bear210's picture

For cheap i get BODYSTRONG unflavored and then mix with MRM 100% All Natural Fruit-N-Whey & Flax-N-Whey. I don't like ingesting chemicals artificial sweeteners etc. Plus the Flax and Whey actual keeps estrogen down.

I've used BSNs Syntha 6 for over a year. Good quality, all flavors taste spot on for me, and mixes really well. I generally find an eBay seller for around $40-45 shipped for 5lbs. And they're frequently drop shoppers for Bodybuilding.com so it's shipped next day with free trial supps.

jenn5000's picture

lots of good protein available in Canada just overly priced. A good powder will cost anywhere from 75-100 for 5lbs. I'm always waiting for sales or when I visit the USA I'll buy 20 lbs

Species Isolyze whey protein isolate. Vanilla Peanut Butter= YUM!!! 27g prt 0 carbs 0 fat per scoop

Deadlifter85's picture

Dymatize elite XT is the best bang for your buck if you're looking to save money. It's $29 for 5lbs on bodybuilding.com and get 55 scoops out of it. by far the cheapest u will find for quality protein from a good brand.

I like Synthepure. My body responds to it really well,,,it mixes in everything.

Another vote for Beverly here. I like to use Muscle Provider to make protein ice cream. The recipe is on the net (but you can use any powder I suppose... I have done it with Muscle Milk cookies and cream and it was awesome). Just basically powder, skim milk, lots of ice and a durable blender like the Vitamix and you will have creamy ice cream in less than 3 minutes.

Ronald-M's picture

I have to say Beverly Intl Muscle Provider. While not exactly cheap, it is the best protein for your money since it doesn't bloat or give you that gassy feeling.

dfwtp's picture

let your gut be your guide. if bloated or gassy, too much lactose and maltose. (labels are manipulated)Flavor is also big for some, but after so many 100's of pounds who cares
sometimes you get what you pay for (ie Sams club, costco)

armykid93's picture

Protein is Protein IMO, just buy what ever isolate you can get the best bulk order on. A protein molecule never changes plus if your diet is in check it shouldnt matter that much anyways

silat50's picture

I use "Pure Protein" Publix Supermarket brand at $11 pound and Ive put on more weight without changing my diet much than any other supplement.i STOPPED THE DRINKS FOR A WHILE AND CUT OUT THE DBOL AND MUCH OF THE WATERWEIGHT IS GONE,LEAVING A SURPRISING 50% OF MY WEIGHT GAINS. To me all whey is so similar, buy the cheapest stuff....or.....seriously..the stuff that gives you the least gas. They used to put Protein Isolate and then protein concentrate in that order in whey years ago, now theyve reversed it. A woman nutritionist whose name I cant recall said as far as isolate goes...."Isolate" it from your diet. Because the chemicals required to extract it are pretty bad. I never did find out more than the vague extraction procedure used, but suffice it to say, all whey protein must use very similar extraction methods...none of them natural IMHO. This aint like drying grapes in the sun to make raisins. Its about speed and money...in their pocket. I was never going to use any powdered protein again but since I had just done my first cycle in many years, Im 54 now, I never tried whey on gear and thought Id spend $11. I must say, Im not sure if it was all dianabol waterweight that accounted for the weight, but I got bigger, and not fatter either.

That said, anything sweetened with artificial sweetener sets off your salivary glands to think its digesting carbs, so, I wonder about that. Again, just dont spend too much on it. In my opinion ,nothing beats real food. I only gave it another shot because I dont consume enough fluids and I can guzzle these ababies down a quart at a time like nothing. Si, hydration is actually my biggest reason to even use it over a cheap can of tuna. Which is worse, the mercury in the tuna or the isolate chemicals in the whey isolate protein? What a world! Best thing is to be well off and eat only fish shipped in fresh for you from mercury free waters in the Mediterannean Sea and have each piece tested by a chemist. Whats $600 a week for fish when you know its the best, right? LOL

Sign up for their newsletter - they run decent sales every 2-3 months

I've found that with protein powder - you get what you pay for....and I don't like paying for farts.

silat50's picture

Wan, I find that when you pay for farts, you can appreciate them more. Especially the ones that burn your ass cheeks on the way out. LOL I wonder if this is actually telling us this is not 100% DIGESTABLE....YUH THINK? -)

And Wan, because I like you, Im going to let you in on something very personal about that. Back in the mid 70's, they didnt invent 10% of all this scammed out BS protein powder they have come out with over the last 10-15 yrs. But they did have a "Predigested-Hydrolyzed protein powder" which was the first "pre-digested stuff to my knowledge ever sold at the time. Know what it was: Liquid cow hooves-Gelatin!!!! And they were allowed to sel it for yrs. Suddenly it just disappeared from the shelves. I wonder why. But what Im trying to tell you, is that the farts they gave you were so bad, that if you were online at a dunkin donuts or any crowded kind of room, you had to leave right before you cut it because it hung in the air so long, that if you couldnt get out in time, if you came back 30 min later,it was still hanging in the air and people behind the counter were gagging. Does that sound like I could make that up?

And if you were with a chick, on a first date, it was over. Because even if you went to the mens room to squeeze it out, it would stick to your clothes and follow you out. Smelt like dead worms and hard boiled eggs left in a can in the sun for a couple of weeks. This stuff coulda been sold to the military, and dropped out of planes during the gulf war. Whole countries would surrender, Im telling you. Ok.....enjoy your next shake. Persinally I only drink a shake if Im staying indoors and I only sit on a cheap wooden folding chair. It gets into the furniture bad. Why do you think the REAL reason they let Arnold train alone at Golds gym at 5am so he didnt kill anyone and the farts would have 2 -3 hrs to get out. Rumor has it guys into that stuff back in the 70's, never used the same pair of underwear twice.

I know you are talking about whey, but you still need to eat, and I like variety. Most of these can be found in the local grocery store relatively cheaply. Look down to the lower charts and they mention Dried Seaweed Spirulina and whey.
