+ 9 How strong are you guys? Just curious
ad
This isn't about who is the strongest mofo on eroids as it is just about me being curious. The last few days I've seen a few members commenting on working out with 120-150 pound dumbells on inclines, which in my opinion is good, especially if you're around 200 pounds or lighter. So my question (1) what is your 1 rep max on bench or squat and or (2) how many times can you rep out 225 pounds on the bench press? Or what were your best lifts in your prime years as alot of guys are older now? This isn't a powerlifting forum but more about bodybuilding so I get that, but again I'm just curious.

Yea I kinda sensed how you felt about that situation earlier and no need to explain, I saw that situation for what is was. Fact is it just was a delay with orders that's all. Now could he have communicated better...yes but what's done is done. But you know how that goes with panicking.
And I see that you mentioned something about matchmaking...hey anyone can feel free to comment and I have no issues with that at all man. I'm just here chopping it up with you guys. Anyone is invited.
Flat 405/ incline 315/ shoulder press 290 / squat 500. 225 reps? Dunno been throwing dumbbells. 100# dumbbells for 12-15 reps x 3 sets
Fuck all those lifts, the shoulder press alone gets me erect. That’s grown man strength right there. My best ever strict was 205 and I felt so damn strong. Here you come swinging you’re big ass balls with 290
I've got good shoulders man. And love overhead pressing. Tweaked my trap for two weeks after 290 though. 225 for 6-8 on shoulder day is perfect for me. I doubt they're "strict" though. I don't let the bar go below my chin
I’ll say strict is no leg drive. I’m ok stopping at chin level. We all can’t have Klokov mobility. The shoulder press is the true indicator of upper body strength. I’ve seen plenty of dudes bench 315+ and couldn’t even strict 185. I’ve literally only seen a 225 OHP once in person. If I saw 290 in person I’d stop everything I was doing, swallow my pride, and go fan girl for a second to the dude who did it.
Edit: I’ve jerked 330…but that’s not the same.
Yea shoulder press is a good indicator of upper body strength no doubt. Problem is guys tear those rotator cuffs and there comes problems.
Tear them because they don’t control the weight and just drop the eccentric and rebound up the concentric. I feel like the tears always come from ego lifting. I’ll always give more respect to a lighter solid technical lift vs a heavier chaotic heave of a lift. Big difference between controlling a lift vs just being along for the ride lol
100%....I'm not just saying this to say it but I always try and focus on technique and I suggest others do too. I can't tell you how many times I've looked around the weight room and saw guys showing off ego lifting with horrible lifting technique. But what gets me is seeing some poor mature guy who is serious but he just has horrible lifting technique. It's those guys I try to help because they more than likely just don't know any better. But those other guys showing off know better. That's my experience.
Nice! Those 3 or 4 plates are always a nice accomplishment. I don't mind barbell incline but it's somewhat awkward for me too. It puts alot of stress on my shoulders more so than barbell military presses.
I've never had much shoulder discomfort from benching thank god
And WE better keep thanking him! I'm lucky like you. I don't want to play with my luck
Gonna have to put a rule on this forum. Lifts have to be recent. None of that “well I did X 15 years ago” bs.
I’ll answer with my own current bests (within the past 5 weeks):
Bench: 125kgx10 @97.5kg (2 days ago)
Squat: 180kgx10 @100kg (~4.5 weeks ago)
6’….wasnt shooting for 10 was going to failure and happened to do 10 each time lol.
Lifts are all tempo, slow eccentric, slight pause (just enough to negate stretch shortening cycle), explosive concentric. No catapulting off the sternum or “bouncing out the hole”
I think it’s fine to post old personal bests, just say it’s old and if it’s current say it’s current. The only thing I don’t like is when a dude bench 315 ONCE In college and now he’s 40 and can’t even barbell bench at all due to injuries( which is fine, I don’t barbell beach a lot either) but they walk around saying they can bench 315 knowing damn well they probably couldn’t even do 225 right now
That’s essentially what I was getting at. Don’t come boasting numbers from 2 decades ago and you don’t even lift anymore. Get it playing basketball all the time…”oh I could dunk like that when I was younger like you” and they maybe jump high enough to slide a piece of paper under their feet. Nah if you could do it like that back then, then you’d still have something now. Mind you they don’t even realize I’m mid 30s and they’re assuming I’m in my 20s lol….theyre only a couple years older than me.
Everyone has heard the guy saying “I coulda gone pro if I hadn’t…….”
Ya I could’ve gone pro too, if I didn’t suck lmao
Lmao...those Al Bundy days!
I'm going to have to use old weights because I just use bands nowadays and I'm on a break from working out. The most I ever benched was 315lbs for 1. I think the most I ever squatted was 365lbs for 1. I never cared for deadlifts. I didn't do a max for deadlifts. I would do 250lbs for reps. I could do stiff legged deadlifts at 225lbs for over 10 reps. As I got older, I would just keep adding reps until I got over 20 reps or so and then I would add a little weight. I would do incline presses with 95lb dumbbells for over 20 reps. I would just add reps with those dumbbells, because I didn't like fucking with the 100lb dumbbells. I was benching 225lbs for close to 20 reps. That's about all I can remember.
Thanks for that info...and not bad scooby. It's like this, the human body isn't made to continuously lift heavy weights and most powerlifters will tell you that. Man alot of those guys that I know and lifted with had so many surgeries and aches and pains in their joints. Now this is the kicker, some of those guys said that if they could go back in time that they wouldn't bother but others have said they would do it all over again....That's how how some guys think.
And some pro football players can barely rep 225 for 20 reps so that's on point.
You get a pass. If you no longer push heavy weights then “back in the day” numbers count. But for those who still push the weights hard, they gotta use their current best lifts.
I'm just trying to shrink down so I'm not carrying so much weight. When I start working out again, the muscle comes on pretty quick. Muscle memory is not just bro science. Lol
The 80-something year old Olympic coach who’s gym I first starting Olympic lifting at did a full body circuit every single day with bands and various machines with very little weight. Not saying you’re that old, but at some point our lifting journeys become doing full ROM movements with light weight just to keep the body moving. He had no problems walking and was still extremely flexible. Because he did those circuits and kept up the movements even though he had to drop the weight. I’m aware that I will also reach that point at some time down the road. We all will. But the point is to keep moving otherwise that’s when we really fall apart.
No doubt. I keep up with cardio when I'm not lifting. I bought a Signature stepmill from Walmart. It was half the price of the Signature website. It's fucking brutal. Lol
Nahh it's not bro science. Never was.
So you're saying none of that back in the day crap huh lol? Damn it I was trying to give them a chance!
Those are good numbers but don't take this the wrong way but I figured you had a strong bench by looking at your chest. I know it's hard to judge that but I've seen enough strong guys to know that look. But then again, like we've discussed before..some guys are just weaker on various lifts period. That applies to me on deadlifts. That movement has always felt awkward to me for some odd reason.
EDIT: And I love the no bouncing off the chest comment. I see you're technical like myself and that's good.
You seem that guy bench like 1300 with like 100 wraps and straps and every bit of lifting equipment he could find and like 10 spotters and had three inch long arms and a barrel stomach and chest so the bar moved like maybe 2.5 inches lol. Still impressive but EVERYONE in the comments was shitting on the dude
Lol who was this? I've seen my fair share of this type of thing though and I'm just not impressed by it honestly. Ok the weight may be heavy but.....there is definitely alot of assistance there no doubt and no powerlifter can tell me any different because I've seen it alot. I just don't think that's a measure of true strength. Basically at that point it's a lockout press contest. A true indicator of BP strength is bringing that bar to your chest without any assistance, pausing for 1 sec and pressing the weight up. It's a turnoff man seriously. No I can't ride with those type of lifts.
If it wasn’t so ridiculously heavy then it wouldn’t have been impressive at all. The o my reason it was, was because it was so much weight most of us would’ve just snapped and tore everything. So that was cool he could move it but it was hardly a bench press. But the video was just going around recently. If you just google 1300 pound bench press it’s probably the first thing
@Rosschestzip I thought about what you said and there are a few guys that lifted that amount on the benchpress. Shit the record is more than that amount. But like you said that's alot of weight regardless if it looks like a lockout. The average bodybuilding wouldn't be able to move that, let alone the average gym guy.
The average gym goer!!! Bro that’s wayyyyy more then even the average power lifter. Larry wheels couldn’t even come close to that shit bro. I’m not talking 1300 total, JUST BENCH that’s a fucking ford Taurus Lmao on your chest. That would snap 99% of the wrists on planet earth I guarantee it.
The pressure on your anus/colon is what's awkward when deadlifting. When I would feel that tingle, I would say "fuck this shit". Lol
Ahhh I'll just say it. I saw a guy soil himself in a powerlifting competition squatting alot of weight. Wasn't a pretty scene. I couldn't eat for awhile and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
Very weak chest compared to my legs. I have long ass arms and always blamed that for it, but in reality I think I just don’t give it the attention it deserves to truly grow. Goes to show hypertophy work doesn’t equate to raw strength. A.K.A. I know how to grow a big chest but not a strong one
Exactly you hit the nail on the head. Different training techniques result in different muscle fiber types. I think you did well with how you train man, especially for just getting into this lifestyle. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders so who knows how far this could take you.
Appreciate it. My goal is ~225lbs at the bf and athletic ability I was at 195lbs. Probably a couple years away from that, since I’ll have strength mesos and power mesos along the way to maintain athletic ability as I increase in body weight. Then it’ll be maintaining that as long as I can since I’ll be approaching 40 by then. But if Lebron can maintain that athleticism at 40, then so can I. Seeing as we’re both taking the same drugs
Awww c'mon now...you think Lebron is on gear? Honestly man I think he has the best trainers and Nutritionists in the world and not to mention the dude is a genetic freak point blank. Even as he was a youngster I could see that the dude had raw power and strength. Hell in fact he was offered a football scholarship lol. But I can see why you would think he's doped up because other pro athletes are definitely. The dude just looks like he's scared of needles! But if he is on gear, I would be surprised. His son has a bit of talent too.
Anyways the athletic look is basically what I like the most. A strong lean athletic look and not so much a blocky bodybuilder look. Like you I'm a former athlete
Idk man, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t on gear at all. Maybe some healing peptides or something. Or maybe a cycle during a training camp. But he’s definitely not on any hardcore cycles and shit like that.
@Rosschestzip @SeeOhShow yea it wouldn't surprise me if Lebron was on something that definitely helped him but I just doubt it's juice. Physically the guy was built like a man as a damn kid. Lol I remember someone said Michael Jordan was on steroids because he jumped so high. Now Lebron ok but to say Jordan was on gear is plain silly to say the least. Folks even said Mike Tyson was on juice...man please, dude was a monster straight out the hood! Probably couldn't even afford the shit let alone know what it was or how to use it.
I really think top guys that are in super cardio intense sports couldn’t really be taking heavy gear. I could be wrong but I just don’t see them risking the negative effects it could have on endurance and cardio effects and stuff they need to be at peak performance in all ways not just muscle mass and strength. Maybe some of those oxygen carrying drugs that horse use for races or something but nothing like winny, deca, tren and shot like that, no way
@Rosschestzip Yea I have to agree that no knowledgeable coach will advise use of or pro athlete will use any steroid that's counterproductive to their performance. If it's a steroid that kills an athletes wind then they'll definitely stay away if their sport depends on endurance. I remember long ago a pro boxer named Oscar Delahoya boxed a World Champion that was on gear and by the middle of the fight that guy got his ass handed to him by Oscar Delahoya. That's a prime example of certain steroids messing with endurance..dude was gassed out. But nowadays more is known about steroid effects than back in the day. And at @SeeOhShow we can thank Dr. Caitlin of UCLA med School for advancing the steroid testing. He basically spilled the beans on the first designer steroid used by Olympic athletes. It's a battle man. Both the cheats and the lab testers are battling for that edge. It's always something.
Yea you’re limiting yourself to thinking of only the stereotypical mass builder bodybuilding AAS. PEDs/gear covers a wide array of things and these folks have the money and means to get designer drugs made in a lab that we don’t even have access to. You think the Germans just stopped at turinabol?
Running sport athletes have been popped for tren though. Besides what people say it does to your endurance.
These athletes are like lab rats to a team of scientists these countries employ for the sole purpose of creating gold medalists with drugs
Well that’s kinda what I’m saying is, that they probably are using some things but not the typical hardcore steriods. Probably like healing peptides or something like that. Also I think there’s a huge difference between an Olympic athlete and Lebron. I think Olympic athletes are way more likely to be on shit. Lebron needs to be in peak physical shape night after night. And olymipic athlete has to perform like three weeks every four years, or maybe even only 3weeks once in thier whole lives. Also the Olympic athletes are more common, there’s one Lebron and he’s worth too much money to let his heart fail or kidneys get damaged. I just think they wouldn’t want to risk any of the negative side effects with a guy like him vs another pro or Olympic athlete, they probably wouldn’t mind running them till the wheels fall off
Have you seen the documentary “Icarus”? Every top level athlete is on PEDs. The WADA guys themselves say it’s easy as shit to beat their system. Athletes only get busted when they try to push the envelope and get too greedy…or in Russia’s case because of Putin’s ego.
Amazing documentary revealing how prevalent gear usage is in the Olympics. And if it’s in all Olympic sports then I can promise it’s in all major sports like MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL, UFC, etc
Your legs are great!!! Very impressive —— My pecs only started to really show after i started injecting each one with 1cc before chest day people
Can say spot injection is a myth and i dont think so. Even my traps grew alot bigger
And you....you are one of the guys I saw commenting about your dumbell lifts. You are one reason I posted this so don't be shy lol. And yes seeohshow has good legs too.
I put myself in the old handicap
last chest day was incline dumbell
120’s for 25 then 120’s for 15 then 120’s for 12
But 3 weeks ago at my frownd gym they had 130-140’s. I grabbed the 130’s but the handle was to thick and i didnt want to hurt my wrist so pussed out
Seated dumbell should press 110’s for 15 then 110’s for 10 then 95’s for 20
Havent benched in acouple years so doesnt count
Seated side laterals 45’ for 15 reps then 45lbs for 10-12 then 30’s for 20’reps
So alot of you guys are stronger but i feel GOOD where im at and no nagging injuries at this time wich is GREAT
And like someone stated above someone i dont care for. But depneds on whats being run. NPP LETS ME lift and feel good
Reps dropping that much between sets shows you really are going all out balls to the wall on those sets. That’s what training hard looks like. Not just 3 straight sets of whatever the same reps. You truly bust ass each set then the reps will drop, period.
Im a believer and add time under tension slow and controled along with the pre workout nutrition
Concepts that I’d love to be able to go back and tell 13 year old me as I started lifting weights. Wasted so many years of prime growth doing everything wrong
anvilCan get a handicap due to age?? I'll title it -
Please urgent help required IDK what to do I am 48 year old Male
Hey the older the wiser so age has it's advantages for damn sure.
