Ordering Online Basics

ad

Hi

New to ordering online, not new to gear, been using for a little over 5 years now. My in person dealer moved away, decided I wanted to give online a try since I can get ahold of some gear with actual reviews to it.

My main question is, when ordering gear, how do you do it safely? Do you use a fake name but have it delivered to your address? Do you use an anon PO Box? Am I just overthinking all of this?

I live in the states for full context.

Overthinking it. There is no "safe" way to break the law if thats your intent. Theres always that chance but thats the choice you make. If the inevitable happens you own it like a man and accept the consequences and take the fall all on your own. The safest way is not at all.

how do you do it safely?

1) Orders are placed using a safe, discrete method offered by the vendor.
2) Orders are shipped to provided addresses

You ARE NOT responsible for the content of things sent to you that you did not order. Samples, swag, misdirected orders, vengeful content etc.

And since we know none of us here, particularly you, would never actually place an order for product that is illegal in their country; you've got nothing to worry about.

Thanks man, this was by far the most helpful comment.

I guess my follow up question is, CENSORED is traceable if you use basically any online wallet, and some dealers offer REDACTED, how do you keep is anonymous?

Or is it just a case of…you’re making a payment to someone, you’re not buying anything, and should anything arrive in the mail after you’ve made said payment, it’s a totally unconnected occurrence?

Don't use REDACTED, it's the stupidest thing to connect yourself directly to a vendor of that sort. As for CENSORED, it's best never to send anything direct from an exchange. Keep your holdings in a private wallet and make all of your transactions from there.

A wallet you use with an exchange is connected to you (you have a relationship with the holder of that wallet) If you use that same wallet to make orders from other businesses that require KYC info, like shipping addresses, one can assume with a high degree of certainty that the wallet is yours.

The 3rd party wallet you send to, hopefully, isn't used in KYC transactions. It'd be difficult to connect a payment to a unflagged wallet (owner unknown) to a particular order and that order to a particular shipment. And yes, as you pointed out, difficult to prove the finds being sent isn't a loan/loan repayment, gift, purchase, savings etc.

If you were supper cautious and wanted an extra layer of "deniability" have a secondary wallet that you never use for KYC transactions.
