+ 7 What's ur favorite underrated move that you don't see anyone else doing?

ad

What move do you do that pumps ur nads that you dont see really anyone else doing?

For me it's dumbell pullovers. I hardly EVER see anyone doing them, and I lift at random gyms all over the Midwest when I'm traveling.

I go heavy and high reps. My lats love them, and so do the long heads of my triceps. I do them flat, decline, across the bench etc.. I do them on chest day, back day, and usually when I train core. I fucking love them.

So what's yours? I know my main-man @Petecastiglione rattled off quite a few arm moves that I've never heard of recently, and he's a monster so I know there's more to be unearthed.

Hopefully this thread turns in to a complete shit show and devolves into death threats, and complete mayhem.

2 hand, single dumbbell front raises. I love taking these on right after my lateral raises, even gets the upper chest popping when I try a static hold at the top. I use an unorthodox grip and squeeze the handle rather than letting my hands rest on the Dumbbell face.

My Gym has a old fashioned nautilus lat pullover that I love.
Also agree with fannypack donkey calf raises are my favorite.

Bohr34's picture

My gym had that for the longest time, it was donated to the troops overseas so it’s in use still but I miss it terribly

I love those pullovers!! Will add size to the very outer...lower lats.

Bohr34's picture

it sure hits better than a dumbell pull over for me

I like doing reverse flys with the cables, the rear delt is so overlooked I like to burn them out as often as possible.

Reverse grip bench press on a smith machine. Absolutely crushes the triceps and you can load it heavy like a close grip. Unlike a close grip it leaves your shoulders in a more comfortable position and the smith machine makes it a very stable movement so the plates add up quick

I’m loving dumbbell pullovers right now. Set 3 I start to feel ALIVE

Milfpounder's picture

I only have dumbbells to 50lbs at home, so anything over that I gotta use handles. So when I've got 110-120lbs hanging vertically over my face that could all just slide off and crush my skull at any moment it also makes me feel alive.

One handed handstand push-up is my go to…

In all seriousness, my favorite is barbell t-bar row. I’ve only seen one person do it at the gym I go to and that’s my wife.

I usually stand when I do face pulls. I'm definitely gonna give this a try and see if I can smoke my rear delts

Same. Sitting would wreck my low back.

They are awkward at the best of times if you do them properly - Hands are supposed to be perpendicular to each other and forarms 90 degree angle to the floor.

I would only do them if you are targeting your Teres and Infraspinatus rotator tendons and make it more of a hornblower move - otherwise I think rear delt laterals with dumbells are better for rear shoulders.

randomdude's picture

Agree. Definitely see them as an injury prevention/rehab movement like internal/external shoulder rotation rather than a builder.

Kelso shrugs. It's a normal shrug but up and back vs straight up. hits lower/mid traps hard. I'll do half my sets this way, half normal. Feel so good and squeezy.

More of this:

Less of that:

None of this:

On a serious note, Big …

There’s a concept people forgot, but the old school guys never did:

You build first… then you polish

Now it’s the opposite.
Everyone’s chasing fancy variations, angles, cables, “mind-muscle connection”… but there’s no real load, no progression, no foundation.

You don’t build a physique with “refinement” work.
You build it with basic movements, time under tension, and progressive overload done over time.

All that polished stuff?
That’s for when you already have something to refine.

Social media got dudes thinking a single-arm cable twist variation is better than just rowing heavy and getting brutally strong over time.

Meanwhile the guys who actually look like something?

They built it with the boring basics

You can go do an old school one-arm row, heavy, controlled, actually progressing…
and people will look at you like you’re doing something wrong.

That tells you everything you need to know.

I do barbell seal rows because my low back makes me do them.

Pandateston's picture

That’s a solid one, brother.
Barbell seal rows and T-bar rows are money … great for building that back thickness, especially upper back.

I've never understood how the fuck guys can do decent form barbell rows with 5 plates - fuckin insane. I could do 4 1/4 plates at one point but how legit you could say they were is debateable LOL Seen this chinese guy doing them with 6 plates online. Most exhausting exercise ever after a set thats for sure.

Pandateston's picture

Yeah bro, that’s one of those lifts… the stronger you get, the easier it is to butcher the form…

I keep mine around 4 plates max and try to progress slow … like +2.5 lbs over the weeks(eventually I’ll hit +25lb*2 in 3-4 months, not in the rushing at all) staying in that 5–9 range with control. If the execution goes, the lift goes with it.

It’s one of the best back builders, no doubt… but it’ll humble you quick.

As for those dudes throwing around 5–6 plates…
could be a little “extra mgs of dbol/halo/tne ” in the mix lol or just guys built to pull. Some people are just freaky strong on rows.

Genetics + leverage play a big role there for sure.
