+ 1 Going from cutting to growing advice

ad

How do all you filthy animals go from a cut, or maintenance, to a surplus? This seems like a very nerve wracking undertaking. Spending months in a deficit working hard to maintain muscle, and then doing a switcheroo and trying to pack on lbs of lean mass. Is it just a matter of piling up chicken breast and carb loading? Timing things out? How do you guys do it?

It depends on a few things. But in generally you can Slowly ramp calories back up. Don’t just go from a big deficit to a big surplus overnight. You also don’t want to miss out of this opportunity. Are you going to be running a bulking cycle, or are you on a cut cycle now and coming off for a while? Definitely need to be more careful if you’re coming off cycle but will be trying to put on some size while off or on cruise. But if you’re already off and you’re gearing up for a bulking cycle that changes things to an extent. But still you do want to slowly add calories back each week, but you can do it faster on gear.

Right after a cut is an awesome time to blow up. We used to call this concept “priming” and spend 2 months or so cutting before a big bulk cycle. Going into a hard bulk after cutting your body just soaks up all the nutrients and explodes, in a good way if your diet is dialed in and not sloppy.

Always look forward to your answers @irongame427. I'm currently running trt at 150 test cyp a week. My Dr actually prescribed me 200 and had been doing that for a while but bp got a little high, so slowly building a surplus of pharma test cyp. Im real impulsive, so anytime I get excited about it I buy some so Ive got a closet pharmacy going on. Haven't used any of it tho. i just ordered 100mg of reta from one of the more awesome places on here, also ordered some SLU based on advice from the one and only @irongame427 and will hopefully get to goal weight in 6 - 8 weeks. Then go from there. Would love to hear more about this "priming" tho. As always, man you're the best.

Don’t be in a giant hurry to add in the calories. Reverse diet out of diet is probably the best course of action if you’re prone to getting chubs. Add back in like 500 calories and let that do it things for a few weeks then you can start adding in 200-300 calories at a time when ever your scale stops moving. Just my take what the hell so I know. Kisses.

Hahaha kisses had me dyin. And yes I am prone to becoming a fatty. Takes an active effort to repel my father's fat genes. In any event I'm almost 40 and this has been the hardest cut of my life by far, but with trt have been able to keep plenty of muscle. I'll be watching my body fat like a hawk when I start turning the dials to grow. As always your guy's advice is gold.

Try learning about insulin sensitivity and listen to some more modern, “science based” pro’s talking about bulking/cutting, on season/off season, etc… . It’s not a set science and it sure seems everyone does things differently, but you might learn some handy things from the pro’s and their coaches.

I listen to J3 University, Kurt Havens, Vigorous Steve, and others. All are extremely knowledgeable. We’re not 300lb mass monsters looking to take the Olympia, but we can still glean some good information from these guys.

I definitely watch ol vigorous Steve. That's a good point you made that we (at least I'm not) 300lb mass monsters. I love lifting, hitting prs and putting on size. Always have. But have kids to raise and bills to pay, so workouts are missed, meals missed etc. But I love learning more and more. There always more to learn and implement. Until it becomes confusing which I'm sure we have all gone thru when you're trying to implement different things. I appreciate it man! Very much.

Absolutely! I love talking game and discussing strategies. I’m still learning and just want to see everyone succeed!

I’m no expert, but from what I understand you don’t need this massive surplus to grow. Make sure protein is high and maybe bring up the carbs a hair. We’re talking like a 300 kcal surplus.

I think the days of dirty bulking are over. Keep it simple, ballooning up to 300lbs will only hurt you in the short and long term.

Certainly more of an expert than me! And yeah all my time lifting natty I've done my share of dirty bulks. Now I'm overthinking how to approach an enhanced bulk/blast.
