Carbs, are they really that bad?
ad
So do carbs always put on fat? Or are they essential for mass building? And what’s a good carb count for lean mass?

SavTacNot all carbs are created equal. Where people mess up is when they eat alot of carbs and their fats are high. Pic one or the other...not both.
Complex carbs. Preworkout a good blend of short medium and long chain carbs will give that skin stretching pump. Lifting burns carbs for energy etc
Carbs are an energy that helps build muscle mass more efficiently. Carbs with a low glycemic index are converted to fat more slowly if their calories aren't used up during the day. So, what really matters is your total daily calorie intake. There’s no exact number of grams of carbs per kilogram of body weight that fits everyone. I’d start with 2-3 grams of carbs per kilogram and track how your mass increases, gradually raising calories until you reach the desired result.
Gotta have carbs. Your muscles need em. Rice is my friend
They did some study where they fed women 1000g carbs for 2 weeks, and they barely put on adipose tissue.
OpieCunninghamI dont think its as much about the carbs or calories versus how much you take in and how much you burn daily. Got a buddy that does a lot of climbing throught the day, and according to his fit bit, he burns about 5500-6000 calories a day! He;s fit, but on thin size. I remember reading an article on Gary Strydo, (old school bodybuilder) that said in off-season he would take in 7000 calories a day; whether that was truthful or not, I dont know.
Nope you want to grow you need carbs
Is that Biryani/Tandoori Chicken?
No it’s some sort of garlic chicken breasts the mrs makes me, the constant chicken rice and potatoes needs a bit of flavouring switch up.
She makes all different potato wedges , and flavoured chickens breast …. She does me some nice mash potatoes flavours as well, the mustard mash is unreal
Nice man, nice. Homemade potato wedges eh, that's some dedication! I always use a dinner tray too LMAO When you have other things like sauces and separate dishes you can just stack em all on there and get plonked on the sofa in front of Netflix LMAO Hey Stokes - How bigs ya T.V??!!
About 55 maybe 60 inches…. How bigs yours lol
I got a 65" beginning of last year, had a 55" but it gave up the ghost after only about 6 years and it was an expensive Sony one lol I went with a cheaper Samsung one this time and its actually really good, amazing picture on it. Felt way too big at first but got use to it. I put up a forum post on it all and it was funny as fuck - predictably many on here have 75 inchers!!!

Mines nothing special mate I paid around 1k for it about 2 years ago. Not big on tv tbh it’s like diazepam to me , start watching a movie I’m snoring 25 minutes in lol.
I like a few series though mainly anything form Taylor Sheridan is great , Up to date on Yellowstone and all the spin offs , mayor of Kingstown and tulsa king are great too. I’m also big fan of the power universe 50cents productions are brilliant
Carbohydrates are essential for maintaining and building body mass, aiding protein synthesis and providing strength, energy and power in training. When it comes to Bodybuilding especially - is there even a debate as to whether they are necessary??!
Timing has a lot to do with it. The best way to approach is dependent on goals but I typically try not eating carbs after 6 pm and usually have just lean meats and veggies for dinner. Like a gradual decline towards the end of the day but I also don’t have carbs before a workout which is at 9am. Post workout is a free for all.
Carbs spiked my hematocrit from 45 to 50. I'm not on cycle either. Fuckem ill just take what I need when I need.
CARBS ROCCKKK!!!!
I love them as much as I love you
See bro, I knew all I had to do was get Sparta out of the picture and I'd become your No.1 Baby!!! Lmfao
Haha you win ! The prize me!
Not all carbs are the same
Not all fat is the same
Beautiful statement. Well said sir.
Omega 3 fat acid prefect example.
Mikey Musumeci downs 7k cal of pure pasta and pizza a day. 140lb.
I bet he takes gigantic sized poops
No no, no. Carbs can get stored and used by three places in the body the muscle, the liver, the brain. Excess, fat or extra fat that you eat, can only get stored where… think, think, think… in your fat cells! Most people get fat on over eating fat not carbs.
That's 100% not true...
look up de novo lipogenesis aka de novo fatty acid
I'm with you on that. It doesn't take Makwa or a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
Yep I was going to comment but I don’t want this to turn into something that it doesn’t have to. His statement is 100% establishment misinformation. This is why we need @Makwa back here.
For us recreational guys & average gym goer it’s great just to track calories in vs calories out. While hitting your grams/lb in body weight of protein, every day, no matter what the goal is. Eating in a 200-300 cal surplus to your TDEE would provide enough for “lean mass”
On leg days I increase my calories by 300-600 and just enjoy an extra meal that’s “off plan”
I’ve always had my calories on the side of more carbs bc I like those foods more. Typically my fats stay less than 80 year round. The rest of my calories are filled with protein and carbs.
I noticed my energy levels being low without carbs. When I was younger Id have less than 100g of carbs a day and it was easy peesy. Lately I was evaluating my diet and looking at my Breakfast and Lunch and realized I have 0 carbs and then I wondered why I felt tired. Threw the Oatmeal back into my morning breakfast and a extra scoop of rice at lunch/dinner and feel better.
With that being said I do believe the "Food Pyramid" is just wrong. I also belivee there isn't just one way to skin a cat.
Id say carbs are bad yea, carbs are just sugar, very little energy in carbs, red meat, and animal fat fuels the body, i know lot people on the carnivore diet no carbs, just meat based and animal fat say they have never felt so good, full energy
Some people feel carbs are bad but it's all about proportion and getting just enough. Tell u what my body loves carbs. Gotta have them. In fact no carbs no working out at all. I need them in my life. Now you won't see me downing carbs at 150 grams per meal. Nahhh. It's balance. Your metabolism dictates what's acceptable to it.
Carbs or fats can both be utilized for energy. In the absence of fats , carbs will be utilized and same for fats. I know a lot of people is not fact based. And how they feel is completely individually based. Just odd with lots of medical evidence for both sides of this fats vs carbs you decided to state something is completely untrue.
Most carbs are just sugar far more nutrion in fat, granted natural carbs from some plant sources can have benfits, rice, pasta no, its a human made food its starch somthing the bidy wont get use from, the human body, if a man eats nothing but carbs they get fat, someone eating manily meats animal based foods with good fatty meat, ans dairy products they wont be fat, look at joe rogan, he was fat went ontcarnivore diet and trained hard, now hes in great shape, what he eat animal based foods and fat
If have to strongly disagree with you here brother.
If this was much more efficient why wouldn't competitive bodybuilders use this type diet.
Most all of them do high protein, moderate carb low fat. I'm just saying this due to the fact that this is a bodybuilding forum so I'm assuming your relating it to that.
However if your just speaking in general of skinny guys who like to go hiking in the woods with their weed and shrooms. Then maybe so. For your regular daily life person.
But purely for muscle building? Your making the body do more. Convert things to energy. Instead of just using the energy u put into it.
Protein synthesis will not occur optimally until muscle glycogen stores are replenished.
If you don't consume carbs which u called sugar so we will stick with that.
If you don't consume sugar. Your body converts protein into sugar. Or even your own fat and muscle. So i think it kinda needs it a Lil bit. No?
Mmthe point tho is animal fat wont make u fat, its a great source off nutrion for the body which lifting weights the body will want, and its a good energy source, anu natural food source is gonna get best results no, and steak natural creatine source, why sit drink lab made creatine when ya can eat big ribeye steak get natural creatine --♂️
I found Carnivore temporarily beneficial for SHORT term fat loss. It isn’t optimal for muscle growth whatsoever and I felt lethargic by day 45. Carnivore can work and aid in glucose regulation for diabetics or morbidly obese people but it absolutely is not ideal for body building. It’s good for a detox and idiot proof for people that can’t track or manage their macros. I’m eating a bowl of oatmeal with protein and peanut butter as we speak.
I had my oatmeal with peanut butter and milk today too. I also had some beef roast and eggs with broccoli... I'm on mk677 and i am noticing the insulin resistance. So i will take it easy on carbs a Lil on off days and try only a Lil oatmeal with protein. And i guess it clears the blood glucose. I need a monitor already. But i can tell how i feel pretty much.
I can 100% see how that type diet could help someone with blood glucose regulation. Cuz your body would only make what it needs.
I do think I'm gonna have to start using something to clear blood glucose soon though on this mk677. I was waiting to do hgh and add the diabetes med. But i might have to do it now or use some metformin.
What are some indicators do you experience to know if your levels are fluctuating?
I'll feel fuzzy in my head and disoriented.
Then I'll start to feel disconnected and just off. My grandfather was diabetic so i grew up seeing the effects of the BC fluctuations on him. if i workout tho when I'm done i feel fine. If i don't workout i stay like that. So I'm assuming the BG gets burnt up during the workout and that's why I'll feel better after.
Yeah, that’s definitely something you’re going to want to monitor. Do you have to mindful of certain fruits you consume? I was going to start a forum topic about the health benefits of fruit but quite honestly, it’s not optimal nutrition for bodybuilding. I rather get my calories from good carbs fats etc. I try to treat fruit like a cheat food.
Guys, did this really warrant a thumbs down? The guy literally is providing conflicting information vs conventional belief. This is healthy for the community to discuss topics like this not ridicule or neg everyone that has opposite views or information. I don’t have a bias view on this because I too believed and thought fat is stored on cell walls but it turns out not all fat is the same and not all carbs are the same. The information this member providing is legit and I suggest anyone to do some research before negging for simply rivaling a viewpoint.
@BFG
@UncleYoked
i shared carnivore experiences with The admin and a well know source on this forum that can attest to these claims. They have experience on the carnivore as well as myself.
No, negging is never the way to go. But that comment in itself was not beneficial to the community since he put "i know people" to support his statement and "carbs are just sugar". That statement is way to general to beneficial. You have to get calories in somehow. We can have educated discussions, stating a meat based diet works because he knows people.... I have met people on this forum that think the earth is flat. And linear cycles that bodybuilders did in the 80s should still be adhered to.. I see the rest of these post are more in depth except the 1970 food study LMAO
Huh?
Guy didnt take chemistry or nutrition
Nutrient Density of Animal-Sourced Foods: Animal foods pack a nutritional punch not found in plant foods, offering essential nutrients like vitamins A, K2, B9, B12, B6, D, heme iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. This makes animal products both qualitatively and quantitatively superior, providing nutrients in forms readily usable by the human body.
Gut Morphology: The human digestive system, characterized by a smaller colon and a longer small intestine, is optimized for the digestion of fats and proteins rather than fermenting plant fibres. This adaptation suggests a dietary shift towards energy-dense, nutrient-rich animal sources, reducing reliance on plant fibre.
Cruuciferous vegetables are needed. And as with Carbs, proteins have short medium and long chain. Protein is not just protein
Bioenergetics: Humans require significantly more energy than most primates due to our large brains, extensive tool use, prolonged child care, and learning activities. Meat provides a more efficient energy source than plants, offering a higher energy return for the effort expended in hunting compared to the continuous gathering of plants. This efficiency in energy acquisition likely influenced early humans to favour hunting, especially during periods when plant resources were scarce.
Diet Quality: The human brain is exceptionally large, necessitating a diet rich in high-quality, calorie-dense foods. Animal fat, being more calorie-dense than proteins or carbohydrates, playd a crucial role in meeting these energy demands. Plant-based diets often contain antinutrients that can inhibit nutrient absorption, making animal products a preferred source for supporting brain development.
