ADD ADHD Medication Can Cause Low T
I am actually not over 40. I am 25. My assumption is anyone under 40 has more a chance to be affected by the add adhd trend. These medications can cause damage to the pituitary gland like they did to me. I was diagnosed with Partial Empty Sella last year but I have been suffering from it since I was at least 18. My father suffers from it too. He was never on ritalin like I was but....
The pathology of empty sella is unknown unless a tumor is present in a MRI scan which even if it isn't there still may be one there. These tumors allow fluid from your spine which connects near to the sella turcica to enter the sella and cause pressure damage to the gland.
During my research... I have found that the only other cause of this aside from tumors is a result of radiation therapy and dopamine reuptake inhibitors like Ritalin/Cocaine.
Unless my dad who is a cross between Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan did a lot of coke then I am on the fence about this.
Either way I have a study which showed a huge amount of people where affected by the extended use of concerta ritalin etc.
Just wanted to share this and maybe someone will read it who may share there personal experience and or knowledge on the matter.

I too was prescribed ritilan (sp) for several years when I was young. I stopped taking it when I became depressed and almost zombie like. I started taking it at about 10yrs old and stopped at 14yr or 15yr. I have always had slightly puffy nipples and fatigue was always an issue. I had to have at least 8hrs of sleep or I really struggled. My father was finally diagnosed and now about a year ago I was diagnosed with secondary hypogonadism.
I wonder if it stunted puberty b/c I was a late bloomer and didn't have facial hair until freshman or sophomore in college.
Next Dr. visit I will discuss this with him to see what he suggests. If this is the cause then there may be a fix.
I can't confirm any of this with research or studies, but I'm 31, and was diagnosed woth hypogonadism 2 years ago, and I have been on ADHD medication since I was 9 years old.
