+ 1 43 debating TRT. Insurance, Script or UGL Question. UGL seems inconsistent
43 and think I'm ready for lifetime commitment of TRT. If the wife can spend $150+ every 6-8 weeks on her hair, I think I can do this right?
Kidding aside, body image issues all life, Used to be fat. Still 'flabby' in areas but lift hard, making gains. No confidence to go shirtless. On a pep of Tirz, lift 5x a week. Would like to get to a 16-18% bodyfat at 165lbs. Probably 175lbs and 20-22%.
TRT - I'm willing to go the UGL route as the clinics, local and online all seem too expensive. That said, isnt the UGL route risky regarding supply accessibility? If I'm supposed to be on this for 10-15 years, knowing consistent access is key. Unopened Test C I've read has a 3 year shelf life. I guess many stock up for the just in case they run out scenario?
GoodRx has Test C for like $15 for 200mg/ml. Is it hard to get a script for a doctor and insurance to cover? I'm 43 and aside from some iratibility, high stress I don't think I'd qualify numbers wise. Bloods were 450ish 2 years ago. No issue in the sexy time area either.

haydendeanRespect for being real about it, brother. TRT is definitely a lifelong call, so consistency and safety matter most. If you can swing it, a legit script is always worth exploring before risking UGL long-term. --
Figure out if you actually need it first. I would avoid TRT as long as humanly possible. Way better to condemn yourself to a lifetime of injections at 50 or 60 than 43. But if you need it, you need it. If you do then definitely do it the right way through a doctor. Pharm grade test, No worries traveling with your prescription. Zero concerns about the quality of it or any inconsistencies in dosing. Closer monitoring from a doctor, which is important as we get older. Our bodies are much less forgiving than when we were young and people tend to get some sides long term on trt. On your own you may or may be as dilligent about blood work. And it’s unlikely to be more expensive than doing it yourself. I’m sure you did some googling and the first places that pop up are all the expensive cash pay clinics with the flashy advertising. Those prices can get a bit ridiculous.but some of them will prescribe deca and anavar which is pretty sweet. Not low doses of var either, 50mg a day of pharm grade for 6-8 weeks. Deca doses seem to be primarily for joint pain around 100-200mg a week. I read somewhere that a compounding pharmacy was going to start making primo soon. Anadrol is also still a legal med but I haven’t heard of clinics prescribing it. The one benefit to these places is you can basically run doctor monitored cycles with a variety of compounds. But it’s expensive.
Anyways if you dig a little deeper and call around you will find one that either takes Insurance or is reasonably priced to pay cash. My local clinic accepts insurance so my dr visits are covered as are my labs. My clinic is weird about the prior authorizations to get my test covered by my insurance. But still it costs me $25-30 for a 10ml vial of test c from my local pharmacy, depending on what the good Rx coupon is that month. So cheaper than any source on here for the best quality test you can get. If your insurance will cover it then it’s just your copay. So not expensive at all.
Last thing I’ll add is what the process actually looks like. Someone was saying they make you jump through all these hoops, tons of testing, start with crappy gel, more testing etc. some doctors who aren’t knowledgeable about this may do that and it was definitely more common years ago. But there are plenty that don’t. This is how it went for me. First appointment just bloods. Came back 3 days later for the doctors appointment. Went over results, test levels were low as I already knew. She laid out all of the options for me to decide, gel, pellets, or injections. I picked injections. First script I used their mail order pharmacy which takes about a week to so she gave me my first shot on the spot (and a b12 shot which was sweet lol) and scheduled another a week later in case my package didn’t arrive in time. She didn’t start me on some ridiculously low dose and require multiple bloods to taper up, or illogical protocol like every 2 weeks. She started me on 150mg a week and said I can decide if I want to do weekly or twice weekly injections. Then blood test at the 6 week mark to see where all my levels were at on that dose and if any adjustment were needed and everything was fine. Then they do quarterly bloods. Which is a bit frequent, but my insurance covers it so no biggie. It’s not a bad idea at all to do it more frequently as long it’s not costing you a lot of money. Better to identify a problem within 3 months than 6 or 12. And that frequency will keep me from going overboard on cycle if I ever start blasting again lol. So that’s my experience. It all was very seamless, I couldn’t have asked for any better.
I went the urology route after almost 8 years on self Rx TRT. Had a consult to attempt a HPTA restart. Had a 0 sperm count after 8 years even after habitually running 250HCG 2x/week. After a successful restart and pregnancy I went back on after 8 months off. Man that first pin was glorious. Stayed on with the urologist and get my script thru insurance. Bloods done 2x a year and a yearly consult with urology. 4 vials of 200mg Test Cyp issued per month/running 150/week. Cost me $5-9USD/month. Absolute no brainer especially now with many sources dried up due to raws not being produced or coming in from China. Great for travel as well as I no longer have to fear about carrying a controlled substance thru airports or motorways. My PCP/urologist are both on board and we run everything necessary B.W wise to make sure I’m healthy. Nothing against clinics as there is a few very solid choices that actually care about your heath and well being. There’s also a bunch a sham clinics/wellness centers who will rake you over the coals. A reputable UGL and sourcing your own labs is a always a solid option for those without insurance IMHO
The good news is from a cost standpoint you can do TRT for way less than what your wife's spending on her hair.
My own view is getting a Rx gives some peace of mind when traveling, especially internationally, so I don't have to worry about getting questioned by customs... but otherwise I don't see any real value in getting a Rx from a doctor as it's nearly more effort and cost than it's really worth. I've had a myriad of problems with both a mens health clinic as well as getting covered through my PCP, typically around the bloodwork they are willing to do since they nearly refuse to do more than check free and total T. I've also run into several female pharmacy technicians on a power trip that just outright refused to fill my Rx.
I have few concerns about the availability of T through the sources here. Look at the age of some of these vendors and this site, they've been operational for quite some time. There's always the chance they could go away, but it seems unlikely they'd ever do so. I was a longtime lurker on here learning and adsorbing knowledge and finally jumped over to UGL earlier this year. I'm really happy I made the change for myself.
Learn from my experience, skip the headache of going through your doctor unless you think you need a Rx for international travel purposes. Otherwise it's UGL all the way.
Have a few personal questions. Could you friend please.
Why are you ready for a life of trt.? It can be slightly complicated. Also. Once your on , don't expect to come off
10-15 years? You don't plan on living in our 60's?
I'd say do a lot of research and go UGL. I was going through a clinic and it was a joke. Expensive and cookie cutter regiment. Not sure where you are based out of. But if in the US I'd go with ASSplug Absolute quality products. Do self administered trt for a while and if you want to go through a dr you can get off, your test levels will be lower and you can get bloodwork and an appt.. Also if you study enough you will find that a lot of Dr.'s and clinics aren't too knowledgeable about trt and ped's in general.
You'll find a lot of bad advice in many forums. Very arrogant people that only see things through their lens. Most of us aren't trying to be bodybuilders. Your body fat % is a little high but don't let the negativity effect you. You should get that down. But trt isn't just about body fat and looks, low levels will affect the way you feel. You're 43 and your levels wont get any higher. I'm 40 I started with bloodwork around 430 total t. Took 160mg a week of test c and levels went to 1060. I feel absolutely amazing. Get your diet and training in order but starting with low dose trt might make you feel better.
anvilNegging me isn't the way to go, the Bossman negged you for not reading the rules, not me. Of course now that you negged me I returned your Karma =)
anvilI'd say do more research on the rules here.
watch naming sources in the forums. against rules. fyi
Your dr is the first place to check. Insurance helps a lot with your script and blood work for trt. Dont use your dr for cycles or blood test on cycle obviously. My script costs $7 for 10cc of cyp. Helps with legal issues too, to do it right. Find out with blood test how healthy you are as well.
So start out with getting my PCP to order full bloodowork, which i did about 1.5 years ago. He wondered why I wanted to get labs done. (I was about to start Tirz and wanted to also know my test levels) but didn't say anything. After I get my PCP to get labs done, then what? The step from that to get say a PCP or urologist to write a script seems tough.
After blood work you have to see how low your testosterone is. If you were 450ish 2 years ago I doubt it's dropped enough to get test prescribed. If its low enough then your pcp will set an appointment with an endo dr. This is just my experience that I'm going through so it could be way different than yours and others. I'm also trying my VA dr since my pcp didn't help much.
Sounds like your Googling & researched from webMD or some bs site.
Let’s be honest here, you’re lifting 5x a week& scared to go shirtless. 1st thing is what’s your macros /diet look like. Secondly, what is your training routine for the week?! Either both are off, or something isn’t right here.
Write down your training schedule & exercises along with macro breakdown.
At %20bf gear won’t do much if you’re not eating properly or training intensely. Just being honest brother.
It’s way cheaper to go UGL route & get your own bloodwork too. Unless you have top notch insurance or have an extra $10k to burn up.
Everyone here is very knowledgeable and is here to help for the most part.
I never really focused on macros up until 2 years ago. Counting calories always seemed tedious and impossible. Now with two kids, I certainly wished I counted and followed them when I was single ha! As I look back I always followed the 'eat less' method and never ate enough protein. Probably have been in maintenance calorie wise during most of lifting years.
Currently in a deficit at 1600 calories with a TDEE of 1980-2100. Try and get 150g of protein a day but its hard. I 100% need to get more protein and log my macros better.
I’ll add that these sources have great deals from time to time that facilitate building a stash in case something does happen. Generally great customer service, fast shipping times, etc…
Dr. route you have only 20 appointments, try this try this that come back for more testing. Finally you approved you get a testosterone gel rub in your shoulder. Back forth back forth testing. If that dont get numbers maybe you finally get the injectable if you are under 500ng/dl
Clinic route is money money money but they arent looking out for you and you do get insane dosages and they recommend tren on first cycle lol
UGL route you have several sources, one run out and you just get from another source. 20 sources aren't all going to go belly up at same time and you have a community that cares about your health and knowledge and advice readily available 24/7 365days and you pick your doses and testing. No insurance bull and no lying to the doctor or walking on eggshells.
Over 10 years, multiple wars different presidents and still able to buy online UGL. No inconsistency here. Above may be a little dramatic but i am close.
100%
your best bet is to do ugl and pay to get your lab work done. Post blood work here and lots of helpful guys here will help you. Im trying to get a Dr script for test but so far, no luck. Seems like most drs are against it for health reasons unless it's really needed. How long have you been lifting? Not to sound like a dick but trying to picture u at 5`6 175 lbs at 22% bf but you lift hard.
Its a good question. I'm guessing on my bodyfat, pure guess. From photos online I'm probably in the 18-20% range. Monday/Friday are legs which I push the hardest. Tuesday/Wed/Thurs are shoulder, back, chest days in that order. During the school year I have roughly an hour to lift. Summer time more since I'm off and kids in daycare. Been lifting since high school but never followed any program. Got into olympic lifting for a bit but it that was slow stuff. Covid (closing of my gym) and having my first kiddo had me put on 15-20lbs. Got up to 193lbs. Lowest was 168lb about 2 years ago. I'm around 175lbs I think, 32-33 waist. I'm hesitant to even jump on the scale but probably should, mine gives a rough BF% too. I'll do that today.
Seems like your still pretty unsure about what u wanna do....
It's all or nothing, hop on the tren train or go get some fire t boosters!! Amazon has good deals on supplements.
...
Everything u want to know is at your fingertips. Just gotta dig a Lil and be willing to take the time, research and read man.
Your accounts brand new, have you read any forum topics yet?
Just unsure if I want to sign up for life on TRT thats all. It's more the financial commitment and then clinic, UGL, or try insurance route popped in my head. I went UGL for tirz peptide so I'm not against it.
If you look into things you'll see a reputable ugl may be better than pharma cuz they use cutting edge oils and formula that pharma has to go through all the politics to get approved which could take years, so IMO a good ugl will always be a step ahead of pharma.
Allot of people feel the complete opposite and swear pharma is the best. Idk if it's placebo, or just individual reactions to formula. The only way to find out is try. Nobody is the same chemical makeup so we all respond diff.
Far as worrying about consistency most top ugl have every batch tested and posted so u know exactly what your getting. Do pharma companies do that?
