As part of my morning routine, I'll usually track the markets just to keep abreast on financial data!
I read an interesting article this morning concerning Bitcoin:
Today marks the cyber currency's seven year anniversary! It is called Bitcoin pizza Monday, the day when the first person used the currency to order two Papa Johns pizzas!
If someone invested $100 in the currency when it first became public, it would be worth about $75,000,000 today! That's right seventy-five million!
It hit a high today of over 2,200. If anyone has these in their wallet, now might be a good time to cash in or at least keep abreast of market moves! If anyone forgot that had them stashed away, whoa baby! :))

It has been climbing again.

And this story was published January 2014! Could you imagine what the value would have been if she kept them until recently! Crazy stuff, that a crypto currency which became public at fractions of a penny is now trading at over 2k! I still believe there's promise though, just as I believe Amazon will soar to new heights!

I'm still awaiting verification brother Sauron! I did check the markets very early this morning and xrp was trading at half its level that it was on Wednesday!
No kidding! Bitcoin dropped almost $700 in value.
$2760 now dropping like a rock now at $2500. Will this be the $1000 price correction I've been waiting/hoping for?
Seems counterintuitive to hope for a crash but I'm afraid to buy into such a quick runup. I've had to edit the price down in this post by $100 just in the time it took me to write this...
EDIT: Stalling out at $2450... Heading to $1800 or a new push for $3000.... I hate this.

Lol, 2800. Fidelity has added bitcoin and ethernet as trackable currency on their platform. Gaining legitimacy it seems.
As of this morning bitcoin has tripled in the last couple months and Ether is even crazier.
ETH $210.01 up $179.76 (1427.8%) for the year
BTC $2,723.58 up $1,978.33 (438.62%) for the year
LTE $32.98 up $28.73 (687.32%) for the year
if I had bought 1 dollars worth of each a year ago, my $3 would be worth $2,186.82 now

Do you have a BitStamp account? I ask because it usually takes about 3 days to get verified with them. The reason I went with BitStamp is because of how accessible it is to purchase XRP -- literally 3 or 4 button clicks. Anyway, just throwing this out there.
Edit: Some people claim they are verified within 1-2 days. I guess I was one of the unfortunate ones that had to wait 3. LOL

Very much agreed brother JL! I've always said the markets are the biggest legalized gambling casinos in the world! Much more for short term traders than long term investors, but their is always a risk! I have a family member who was a specialist on the NYSE, he's since retired, but he loved the adrenaline rush that's so inherent with momentary trading and making markets!

Yea, 5 yrs ago I wanted to invest a few $ into bitcoin but was talked out of it by my oh so smart son who i now tell every morning how much bitcoin has gone up. I stopped doing the math of how much I would have now if I had gotten in early. Oh well. It is what it is.

Don't get me started. I purchased $100 in bitcoins 6 months ago and had them saved to my bitcoin wallet. Sure enough, someone got onto my phone and deleted the app not realizing what it was. The thing of it is, that $100 more than quadrupled in value from the time I initially purchased the bitcoins. Sure, it wasn't $1,000,000, but $400 is still a lot of money to lose.
Some friendly advice: If you have a bitcoin app installed on your phone, make sure you backup your bitcoin wallet to another drive or computer, as losing the phone means you've also lost your bitcoin forever. On the bright side, my misfortune is not as bad as the guy who spent $75,000,000 on two pizzas. I might commit suicide if I did something like that. LOL!

When you create a wallet you should have been forced to record a "Seed" (set of random words) that you print out, email to yourself, or store digitally elsewhere. With the seed, you can recreate your wallet or replicate it on any or several devices. The contents of your wallet is still recorded in the blockchain. You need your seed to recover it.
Also, if you exported your public keys, you can move your wallet from one wallet to another without using the blockchain. e.g., Armory to Multibit to Electrum
I have read that MultiBit can recover some (but not all) wallets from different apps. I'm giving it a shot now, and there are only 140,000 blocks left for the program to analyze. LOL! If this doesn't work, it would be cool to hear about any other ideas you may have to successfully recover bitcoin. I have read online about various ways of doing so, but none of the other methods appear applicable to my situation. Much obliged.
Edit: It didn't work. Looks like I lost my bitcoin for good.

It's simply called "Bitcoin Wallet" by Bitcoin Wallet Developers. I have since reinstalled the app, which does not help considering there is no option given to recover the wallet with a seed. I also found my wallet's backup on my phone and can't open the file. Every time I try, I get the following error message: "No apps can perform this action"
move your backup to an SD card on your phone to a folder called Download (create one if it does not exist)
from within the bitcoin wallet app tap the 3 dots in the upper right corner Safety> Restore wallet
I've noticed the dollar value increase, but the BTC have the same numbers, decimal points, etc. Can I hit the 3 dots and restore the wallet and then see the updated BTC amount? I wanted to get a heads up before I do it..

I'm not sure I understand what you are asking. If you have 1.2576 ounces of gold, you'll still have 1.2576 oz even if the dollar amount went from $1200, to $2000.

I recorded the seed when I first opened the wallet, but there is no option on the app ("Bitcoin Wallet" for Android) for me to enter the seed. This is extremely frustrating.
