+ 2 The Throwback Middleweight
Everytime I make a boxing post, someone comes in and says "ahh boxing is finished, MMA is where it's at,..yada yada yada". That may be true in your mind and even in the mainstream. But there are some of us who bleed boxing. So do me a favor and keep the digs and MMA shilling out of here. I like MMA. It's a brutal sport and I understand what it takes to do what those guys do. Nothing but respect from me. But it's not my thing. I don't want some damn near naked sweaty mufukr rollin around on the floor with me. Stand up and fuckin fight god dammit!
Anyway, Sergio Martinez is on his last leg. He has dominated the division that made boxing so popular decades ago. He's run through the division like the old throw back middleweights. Always getting dropped, getting up and finishing the show. He broke his left wrist for the second time last fight and destroyed his knee. Looks like the end of his reign is near. Floyd Mayweather has been efficient at ducking him, handpicking opponents in the Jr. Mid div. Chavez Jr. showed us he doesn't have the discipline to step up and take the crown. Canelo looks promising but he *will* have a major set back in sept. when he steps in with Floyd. Machklin, he's an old school bruiser but is just missing something. Of course Andre Ward who is the cream of the crop but is a *boxer*. A technically immaculate , coordinated, defensive boxer. Without taking anything away from him and what he has accomplished, he's flat out boring to watch. And then theres Gennady Golovkin. A silver medal winning olympian with an amateur record of 345-5. Yeah that's not a typo. This calm, cool kid who says shit like "i'm just having fun" after knocking out a top mid weight with a friggen body shot! He has the kind of power that keeps you in a fight no matter what the score card says. The kind we haven't seen since Mike Tyson. Both hands at that. He is technically sound and can box, but almost never gets a chance to. He lands punches and even through the TV they just sound different. Like you can hear the air being pushed out of his opponents body with every thud. It's an incredible thing to watch and i'm telling you it's something special. You might not see a fighter like this for another 25 years. So if your a fan of the sport, do yourself a favor and watch this kid. He just fought Matt Machklin. A very dangerous, very well respected veteran fighter. He threw a left hand to the liver (didn't even look hard) and Machklin threw himself to the floor in agony. I don't know if it was just the liver shot (paralyzes the lower body) or if he broke every rib on the right side, but this guy was on the ground and in tears from the pain. 14 straight knockouts. If he has a hole in his game it's his defense. I haven't gotten a good look at it. But it's because he hasn't needed it. For all I know he could be as defensively sound as Floyd. So he may very well be the most well rounded, naturally gifted fighter in the game today. He's got that kind of power that you can't train to have. The kind that you're just born with. The kind of power that fighters train their whole careers chasing and never come close. And it's all in fluid motion. No haymakers or wild punching like some other power punchers. Defies logic and can't be explained. I for one will be watching attentively at this guy. Canelo has that throw back "stand up in a phone booth and fight" type of style. Chavez jr. (if he gets it together) has that same throw back style. And Genady is just special. So all the big hyped up, very well promoted slop fests that floyd and manny put on, you can keep em and use them as the gauge for the boxing social climate if you want. I will be watching these guys who don't go to put on a show. They do it because fighting makes their soul happy! It may not be enough to get the mainstream to jump in on it, but it's enough to get me excited. Makes me want to go back to my roots.
Those of you who fight , have fought or have been in a boxing gym and witnessed pad work, you'll know immediately what kind of power this kid possesses when you see this.

There is something special about watching someone so gifted at their craft , be it in all walks of life but for fight fans in general guys like GGG you get a sense of greatness. As for next opponents , there is talk over here in the UK of a match up with Frotch. Imo Gennady is to good and would possibly even K.o Frotch (never K.o'd before I believe). If wieght wasnt an issue I would love to see him go toe to toe with Danny Garcia or Lucas Mathyyse. He may not be the most revered but I havent seen anyone pound for pound hit as fucking hard as Garcia in a long time, including Gennady ( who i still think would win due to his style). Cool post man.
I felt for Machklin, anyone that has fought has taken the "oh my god" body shot. But the fluid effortless power is truly a gift and I'm sure raised more than a few eyebrows with anyone who might have to get in the ring with Golovikin. Could not agree with you more about MMA, four punches thrown none connect and now were rolling around on the floor! Thats no sweet science to me!
AnonMy god that left hook to the liver killed Machklin!! I saw it last night!! It looked like any other punch u see in almost every fight. Then Machklin. Stays on the ground for minutes man. It's just completely obliterated him. Wow. Definitely caught my attention too brother!!
And sadly yes I have to agree Canelo may not like what he sees in September. But if he wins the landscape of boxing will change drastically. A victory for Mexican Independence Day! At least that's what I'm praying for!!
Canelo isn't ready bro. He will be embarrassed. But he will be a force in the middle weight and later light heavy divisions for a long time. The point is, the days of Hagler v hearns , Leonard v Duran are back! The welterweights and heavy weights are fading off. The talent isn't there. Middle weight division (my division for years hence my pride in this post) is looking damn good!
