I know I may open myself up to attack but something needs to be made clear. The state of Israel did not exist until 1948 when European jews funded by the UK and US came and took land from the people already living there. Now let's say at some point a foreign people came and took over the US. (Very unlikely but hypothetical) I know me I would take up arms and fight for our land. I would expect this from any people who were occupied. All of the tension in the Lavant did not start until 1948 prior to that Muslim Jew and Christian lived side by side in peace for 1200 years. I am not posting this to troll or start an argument or anything like that. The Palestinians are only doing what any people would do if a foreign body came and took what was yours.

And yes Greg knows his history but what was left out is that the Levant was under islamic rule since 637. The ottomans (also an Islamic empire) didn't take control until the 1500 until 1918. And the land was first referred to as "Palestine" by the Greek historian Herodotus in the 5th century BCE. I actually wasn't trying to debate the validity of anything. What I was trying to do is appeal to peoples understanding.

The ottoman empire took control off Canaan in the early 1500's. They renamed ALL of Canaan Palestine, part of an effort to Muslimize the region.
After World War One, Britain and France governed the area. They arbitrarily drew up nation states where none existed. They gave zero consideration to those living in the area. (The Kurds were displaced as well). The brits simply kept the Ottoman name for Canaan. Palestine.
After the displacement of the Jews at the end of WWll, they won their decades long petition with the UN to have an Israeli state.

We missed our opportunity to negotiate a return of Kurdistan to the Kurdish people in the early 1990's after the gulf war. (Turkey was not a big fan of having a Kurdish state along their border).

I do understand they never had a country. This is where the colonialism comes into play, throwing lines down where people never imagined them. I don't deny the historical significance of the Levant and historical promised land, but I disagree that someone who has been living somewhere for generations had to give up their home and land because so.e European wanted it. Its a truly complex issue that I know I am oversimplified, but my goal is to show its not as cut and dry as people think. I agree 100% with the missed opportunity on a Kurdish state, but this is the problem when all these outside governments start playing state craft.

I can't be doing all this yapping without giving my vote no doubt. However there are other options besides those two in which to vote for. That's the good thing about this Republic right? We have options and hopefully good options. There's no way I would be on this discussion if I had no plans to vote or haven't voted, that would be plain insane. That's sorry in my opinion. We'll see what happens but I think Trump wins a tight race

I've always voted for what was best for the republic, but I've never tossed away a vote when there is so much on the line. Sure, in the past I have voted libertarian and for Ross Parot to make a statement or to try and be part of creating a viable 3rd party... But those times were nothing like what we are seeing today. RFK is on our state ballot for president. For a fleeting moment I almost voted for him. But this race is too close to toss away a vote as a protest to the 2-party system.
