Saying bye to your dog.

ad

What a crap weekend.

Last night had my 15 year old Labrador euthanised. Been obviously coming for a while at that age, I thought I'd prepared myself for it. I was wrong. I feel like I've lost my best mate.

House feels empty, not used to not having a dog around. Worst bit was telling my aughter this morning when she got up that the dog was gone. Explained she was in pain etc and it was the right thing to do but still makes you do a bit of soul searching.

RIP mate.

Condolences mate. I have a 13 year old rotty. She has been having a very bad week, and I am struggling with making the same decision. It is especially hard with my girl because mentally and spiritually she is happy, but her body is failing. Its very tough to determine when you are doing the humane thing. I just pray I make the correct decision. Again brother, VERY sorry to hear of your loss.

Thanks mate, so sorry you're finding yourself where I've been. Our lab was slowly deteriorating for months. The last few days started to fall over unexpectedly then on Saturday she couldn't stand any more. I tried to get her up and she just collapsed in a heap whimpering. I knew then it was the end.

Sounds really morbid, but when it's time you'll know.

RTK, the terrible irony, I struggled soo hard for so long to come to tthat decision your facing, while it may not be much comfort from a stranger such as myself, I promise you when you do decide to put that decision to action the time will be right and your decision to do that will be right. tell me brother is your baby girl a big block head or a slender petite thing? My boys where block heads the middle one was 147lbs called him my German giant lol...

147 lbs of rotty is more like a bear cub than a dog lol. My girl is a very petite thing. She was overweight for awhile and still only topped out at about 80 lbs lol. I was looking for a big block headed beast of a male, but she fell into my lap. She had been abandoned in the middle of nowhere, and had a hurt paw. When i first laid eyes on her, I knew instantly she was going home with me. Sadly, she is suffering from congestive heart failure, which causes her to pant from just walking to get a drink. She also has a bum knee with a limp that goes with it. Thankfully shes not in pain, but you can just see her wearing down.

I'm soo sorry Catalyst, I know this pain all to well amigo, in just one short year I found myself grieving for 3 pups. the youngest dug out of the yard and was hit by a car, the middle rottie succumb to cancer at 5yrs of age and the oldest girl well she had a long and wonderful life it was just her time. thinking that should have been a little easier to deal with given those facts, it was the hardest, like you I had to have her put down. I sat on the floor with her holding her while the vet did her thing assuring me that what I was doing was just and right. it ripped this big boys heart. in short time that pain and grief was replaced by 13yrs of fond wonderful memories, and in due time I expect you'll feel the same. in this cruel and sick time we live in many of these poor animals don't stand much of a chance of living in a loving carrying environment so please take comfort in knowing that is what you provided for your lab child brother because I'm sure he/she did. same heart felt condolences goes to the rest of you bros here that have had to endure the same.

This bums me out I'm sorry man :(

My girl and I have a little pug who at first bugged the hell out of me. But over the past 2 years I've totally fallen in love with this little dog. She's adorable and fun and so loving. She goes everywhere with me now and never leaves my side. Its gonna be hard when she goes. But the hardest part will be consoling my girl. It's gonna destroy her. There will always be that empty space in your heart there bro but just remember all the good things. A dog has no other goal in life but to love his master and make him happy. Honor your pups memory by being as happy as your pup wanted you to be.

R.I.P. puppy.

Best way to get over an old dog, is buy a new puppy! My mother took our childhood dog to the pound, one day outta the blue. I sympathize for you!

I think we'll definitely get another dog in time. Probably rehome a rescue dog.

Sorry brother. I have a cat right now believe it or not that I will miss dearly. I rescued him off the street during the winter back where I am from originally. He is getting to the end of his life and every morning I am just kind of waiting to find him somewhere. Anyways I really am sorry for your loss.

Mines like a best mate, she comes everywhere with me.
Had to helplessly watch her get hit by a car when she was six month old, fortunately non of the wheels ran over her and she just seemed to get spat out of the back of the car and bolt off, to my relief, down the road. So for a second I had the worst feeling ever.

I definitely feel for you, ive tried to imagine the scenario of her not being here, it aint nice.
Keep your chin up mate, im pretty sure there's a heaven for dog's.
