+ 11 I'm getting there @Press1

ad

This post is for @press1 who asked to see it, here it is brother! In all it's glory! Can't wait for this shit to be over.
First 2 pics are of just now, second two were of 6 weeks post surgery and one bonus one of the culprit to my injuries. These are the forks that crushed my leg, ankle and foot.

Damn. I recently fucked up a ligament in my ankle on the job. I thought my shit was bad but damn. Good luck on your healing brother. Glad you are ok at least.

Yeah, ankles are no joke bro! What happened here though was the worst possible scenario. Shattered both bones in the calf in several places. Sheared ankle bone completely off, along with all the cartilage in the ankle, gone. Tore off all the tendons and ligaments at the bone and the bone where they connect was gone, irreparable. So they kinda just connected them through hardware, but the chances they're going to stay there are super small. I'll probably be dealing with this at some level or another for the rest of my life. It is what it is! I'm just ready for it to be what it's going to be and allow me to move on. Ya know?

Whatever pain meds they wrote you be careful not to get dependant on them. Withdrawals are no fun and that can end up being a life long battle too. I'm sure they wrote some "good shit" for a Tib/Fib fracture. Good luck on your recovery journey man.

Haha! They didn't give me shit honestly! A couple of 5mg oxy and that's it. I've been all Motrin and Tylenol for the majority of this. You would think they'd have given me something that would have helped. Those couple of percs did absolutely nothing to touch the pain. It's been all white knuckle and pain tears buddy!

Yeah of course its like when you first wake up if you take DBol and things like that - everything is normal then as you fill with fluids for the day it can show sock indents etc as everything flows downwards. I imagine thats all the fluid gathered in your leg. Nasty man. Wow yeah so probably about 400kg's plus. Things could of been way worse pal and it could of cut your leg off if it landed differently.

(had to post up here as it wouldn't let me reply to your comment bud)

Cant imagine that pain!

Brother, I've gone through 3 back surgeries, fucking cancer/chemo, all kinda of crazy shit! This was hands down the worst pain I've ever experienced. I kinda went into a pain blackout for like 2-3 weeks. Really can't remember a whole lot, other than that it actually happened. Still a little surreal and it's been 10 weeks now.

Jesus buddy - that's pretty cringeworthy stuff. Still some healing to go yet I think, is it still inflamed and will that go down? What will that fork attachment there weigh?

CHIMAIRA75's picture

Not sure if the exact weight, but it's gotta be well over 1000 lbs. I know it took several bigger guys to lift it up enough for me to slither out from underneath it.
As far as swelling goes, they told me that it'll be the last thing to go away. It blows up like a balloon just putting it down. When I first wake up for the day, it's fine. After a few hours, the swelling is so crazy that I can feel it stretching my skin. A most unpleasant feeling! I know we as bodybuilders generally like that skin stretching feeling, but this is a little different. Lol

Oh my God, bro!!!
You are fortunate to still have your leg.
I wish you a speedy recovery.
One day at a time.
Stay strong, brother.

Yeah, it's been a rough go! First 2 months were excruciating but I made it through the worst of it. It's still going to be a while. You've no idea how true that statement is if how lucky I am to still have the leg. That was something that was spoke about, the possibility that it may have had to come off for to horribly damaged blood vessels and shit. I'm actually lucky I'm still alive, as it hit my head first. Had it not thrown me back, it could've been my head or something else that got crushed.
Thank you for the kind words brother! Doing everything I can to not let this beat me. I'll get there!

Nahhh buddy - Is this Fuck gonna beat you or get you down, if you were a quitter you'd of called it a day a long time ago!! You just have to look at it as you work on a farm and thats quite a dangerous area and job to be in - there are hazards all around you and machinery that can easily kill you if you misuse it or things malfunction. These things do happen and you were in the wrong place at the wrong time - it sucks ass I know. Living a perfect life unfortunately doesn't happen unless we are able to learn from all our miss haps and mistakes, buy a time machine and go back in time lol

CHIMAIRA75's picture

I fucking wish I could build a time machine! This leg ain't the only thing I'd fix! Lol.
Don't get me wrong Press, I'm not a quitter by any stretch of the imagination. It's just so fucking frustrating sometimes! I'm not used to being stuck like this. I also know that this is gonna be one hell of an uphill battle just trying to walk on it again. And I will! One way or another, this thing will not get the best of me!

To be honest mate, I'm not going to say I can imagine - because I can't at all! I cannot imagine being laid there first of all in nothing but horrendous pain for weeks, then second just having to be laid there not being able to move around normally. I've put up with a partially torn hamstring in the past and just that impacted every aspect of life and movement, so not having an actual leg to be able to put bodyweight on must be extremely difficult. Have they said there is enough bone and structure to be able to walk on it in time? Or were they kinda against repairing it but did it just to make you happy and let you see how you get on with it?

CHIMAIRA75's picture

The bones are healing but it's going you take some time. At first, it was a question of whether or not there'd be enough functional blood vessels to transport blood. I was willing to roll the dice on it either way. Fuck! I'll take my chances! The bones will heal. The blood vessels will eventually become efficient enough to circulate correctly again. Or at least that's what we're hoping for. The biggest thing I'm up against, is that there was literally nothing left of the bone where the tendons and ligaments connect. They did some improv with it, but the general consensus on that, is that they're not going to remain there. It's not going to take much for them to either tear back off or the screws will pop out. All I can do is pray that it holds? That's going to be my biggest struggle with walking again. Walking without tendons and ligaments is next to impossible. I guess we'll see how this all pans out. Just hope for the best!

press1's picture

Ohh shit buddy, I didn't quite grasp this before. So is there no connection with your calf at the back or in the front shin area that would normally tilt the foot up and down?

CHIMAIRA75's picture

Correct! All the tendons and ligaments that hold everything together and allow for movement have been put in a compromised position. The bone where they connect to was in a million pieces, so there was nowhere to anchor them to. They improvised and pulled them all together and ran a screw through them and into the nearest bone. But they were very upfront about the fact that they more than likely aren't going to hold. So, it's going to be a little different trying to walk after this. I'm going to have to learn to walk on it as is. I just hope I can get my gait back without it being too obvious that I'm fucked up.
