+ 3 Update!!! Down for the count
ad
Well guys, it's over for me for a while. The pics posted should explain the why. The circumstances behind the incident... I'll just state that I'm lucky to be alive.
As much excruciating pain that I'm experiencing atm, the most painful part is I will be incapable of physical activity for a while. Wish me luck guys! I'm about to go through a reconstructive surgery. I'm so down right now! Psychological torture....
Update: just got out of surgery. A 2 hour surgery turned into 6 hours, as this was way worst than previously thought. Bottom picture is post op of the reconstruction.

Hope you are feeling okay today buddy and haven't caused Pornhub to crash too many times!
Dude! Airports are gonna be an absolute nightmare!
Get well soon man
I was thinking the same thing. I may wanna get there super early cause this doesn't come off lol
So Buddy, I am just going to be direct about this and ask.
What has the Doctor said is the outlook on all this once you have healed up, are you going to be able to walk unaided or will you have to use a stick or crutch? Are they saying you won't be able to train lower body again or you will in time? Is the foot and tendons going to be able to support any training?
It's all to soon to tell brother. I may be fine and just walk with a limp aided or unaided. He did tell me that I should be able to train upper body in a few more weeks. But as far as what I'm stuck with at the end of the day. It's gonna be almost a year before we know exactly what we're looking at. Just gotta expect the worst and hope for the best. Ya know? Right now though, it's super critical to just around, leg elevaed--
Holy fucking fuck. Look at all that metal in there. Good god.
Yeah it's crazy bro! That's actually a 3d X-ray but I can only screenshot it and post it that way. It looks even crazier when you move it around and you see all of what they actually did and still that there was so much that was unrepairable. I'm lucky to be here to complain about it bro
Yup. I was reading below. X-rays only show so much dimension and I guarantee they opened you up and thought, “Holy shit, this is soo much worse than we anticipated”. You definitely got smashed in a weird way and it’s no surprise they can’t fix everything. You will have a very warm sensation inside there while it is healing. As bad as it is, it could have been the end ya know. You’ll just have to find a way to adapt to it and be diligent in the future to preserve the joint in everything. I don’t think there is anything you can take that can help heal all that either, especially with the history.
Tsa will love ya! Looks fkn gnarley. Going to work upper body? At least some curls etc when ya can?
Hgh and milk. Heal up well!! Gonna be a long journey
I'm gonna do whatever I can, when I can. It's just gonna be all upper body for a long long time. Can't do the GH cause of the history of cancer. It's all good though. There's a ton of shit out there more. Just gotta do my due diligence with it and make sure it's ok to put into my body.
Boom!!! PMA wins all
Feel better iron brother
Thanks bro!
WOAH Fuck mate - so they have definitely been in and done some handy work!
When did this get done then - has the pain gone down or has it aggravated it all over again?
Are you going to be able to use it okay or whats the outlook on it?
So I went in Friday morning at 1030am and didn't get home until 1030pm. They did a nerve block behind my knees and it took out any and all feeling and motor function in the majority of my right leg. So, like when I woke up after being completely under for almost 6 hours, I felt no pain at all. About 24-30 hours later it started to come back to life and it was a whole different pain as it wore off. I'm talking tears rolling down my face for hours and hours. Last night it finally completely went away and the pain that I'm left with is pretty horrible but I will get by. I'm bed ridden for the next 2 weeks. No weight on it for 2 months minimum.
It was significantly worse than he had thought prior to opening me up. And even prior he told me it's the wise he had seen in a few years at least.
Turns out that where it looked like there was only one break in the X-ray, there was 6. The shattering on the ankle was unfixable. My ankle bone was completely sheared off. There's zero cartilage left in my ankle. All the tendons and ligaments at the bottom of my calf where they all connect was shattered, so he couldn't reconnect any of it. There's so much more to it Press. We'd be here all night talking about it. Bottom line is that I'll never be the same again. I won't be doing legs any time soon. Especially not any calf raises! I don't even care if they're seated. Lol
Anyways, yeah it's kinda gonna lay me down for a while brother and I'm not that guy. That's what's fucking with my head so bad. I'm a very very active dude. They just threw the brakes on me. I'm losing my mind! Lol
Honestly Mate, I don't fuckin believe this.
WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN TO SUCH A GREAT GUY LIKE YOU?? As if you haven't been through enough already, I just don't understand it. Makes me incredibly sad buddy - don't know what to say. I know how much working out means to you and know how much it destroys me too when I cannot do it.
Agh... That's just my life Press. My life has literally been just one bullshit tragedy after another. It's given me quite the "it is what it is" attitude. Not much scares or surprises me anymore, if anything. I know I'll make it through, I just gotta get through this next few weeks. Hopefully I'll be ok to do some upper body shit. Even just alot of reps. Anything but lying here. Ya know? And as a man in recovery, it's heart breaking that I have to even take this bullshit pills. It's just a very depressing thing. Well, it can be. I've gotta be able to make it something different though. I not into the depression thing
Hey you'll get through it and we can't say why this or why that as you already know. It sux but we are dealt certain cards in life and we go from there. Certain folks feel sorry for themselves and those folks tend to not do well in life but you seem strong minded so no worries. In powerlifting the mind is the control center. I'll explain it better one day. Good luck and get better my man.
1000% I will! Believe that! It just sucks right now. Gotta get passed this sucky part that's all
It's gotta be hard on you, that much I do know. I understand not being in your situation it's easy for me to say this or that, but I think you know what I'm trying to say. Like u said it's just getting passed the sucky part
Sometimes we all need to slow down and put things into perspective. It’s a tragedy, but you’re HERE! I was told MANY of the same things to the extreme of possibility never being able to walk the same again, but 3 months later I was progressing so fast in PT it shocked everyone.
Don’t let doctors speculation or limits get in your head- they are made to be pushed and broken now that’s to an extent you HAVE to heed that bedridden advice and let your body heal to the best of its ability BEFORE you even take baby steps.
I know I don’t know you on a crazy personal level, but I can tell you’re a fighter, and you’re going to conquer this just as you’ve conquered everything else that’s gotten in your way.
And you're 100% correct cause they told me I wouldn't be able to go back to the gym or work construction anymore after my first back surgery. I didn't just get back to the gym, I got in the best shape of my life. I don't let that shit, their stats in my head. I already know, I'm different anyhow. I know that I am gonna come out ok. Just sucks that you will be able to tell, even years later. There's obvious deformities that they flat out told me that they couldn't correct. They tried!
He told me that they used some sort of fibrous hooks and kinda took all the tendons and ligaments and kinda just weave them all together and drilled a hole and screwed the hooks into the bone. Said it was the best he could do. At least they were where they were supposed to be and not just floating around in there. I've no ankle bone at all. It was like dust bro. Lol! That thing literally crushed me to almost dust. I'm so grateful that I'm alive!
I know that I'm also going to have to come to terms with the fact that that shit is in there no matter if I like it or not. I know this is gonna be a long road and I'll make my way to the other side, like I always do. It just sucks balls bro. That's all!
As far as pain meds, they don't give out much at all anymore. I have 5mg oxy and the rest is nsaids, aspirin, Tylenol, etc. I've already found a sub or two if I need it when all is said and done. I'll be ok. Trust me, I'm not enjoying this shit and the pain meds don't even scratch the surface of the pain. I've found that gabapentin makes way larger strides I'm relieving this pain than anything else I've been given.
Better response than mine mate
Holy fuck is right
I do not envy your position brother man… I absolutely hate hardware and have some lifelong myself. The worst part is the fact that it doesn’t heat up or move like anything naturally in our bodies. During extra cold months I can feel it way more than usual and have accepted it will never be 100% what it once was.
Lots of prayers for a quick recovery Chimmy man… it will get better no matter how grim it seems.
You on some good meds?
It must of been a lot worse than first thought if they were operating for 6 hours. Were you totally out during all this or awake?
That sucks man. Hope surgery went well and it heals up quick!
Dang, man. I wish you a speedy recovery.
TY bro
Chim get your ass well ASAP my man! We'll be waiting on ya brother! Get well
Thanks Dee
Get well soon brother.
Than you bro
man , I hope your mentally ok. your body will heal and all will be fine. keep your mind right & do "honest mental check ins " with yourself. reassuring first hand experience. a few months before my 39th bday I had a motorcycle accident that got my right leg, the knee & ankle pretty good. its only a blip in my mind occasionally now at 41. the first few days laying around trying to find shit to do was so miserable. assuming from comments your going to being stewing just as I was. find something to keep your hands and mind busy brother. I learned a bunch of cool knots, with a short piece of 3/4" rope, and bought a wood widdling kit from amazon & made a shit load of spoons and stir paddles for gifts, ( all from blanks on amazon). sure you get the idea. hopefully this is all a long winded waste of time bc you have it all handled. Don't let any negative bullshit in your mind -thats the main point!
I'm doing everything I can to keep myself grounded. I fully understand how important it is cause, I'm losing my fucking mind already! Lol and I think everybody on this forum gets that part. I appreciate the ideas though. Gotta start picking some hobbies back up. It's gotta help the mental
100% it does!
I Hope you are managing to get some sleep mate, what sort of pain medications have they given you?
Not much for sleep at all brother. The had given me about 10 norco to leave the hospital with. Didn't help the least. I still got em. I just been eating ibuprofen and crying like a little girl. Sooner or later it's got to stop. Right?
It looks like broken bone pain is the worst during the first week mate, then it dies down. The worst is immediately after the fracture. I know when I broke my little finger bone in my hand that the pain didn't really go until it was reset.
Unfortunately it's not a simple reset. There's going to be surgery involved. So I'll be experiencing the worst part of it twice, I suppose lol
Damn bro, it ain’t nothing you can’t handle!
I know you in want Yair your friend or anything like that, but if he it atleast documented and shit like that, also you could probably file something that just his insurance pays and doesn’t really screw him, or workman’s comp that he’ might already be paying for. I understand not wanting to hold a friend liable or sue a friend but that’s what he as insurance for. Maybe as a lawyer if there’s a way for you to be covered and not screw your friend. Best of luck man! Hang in there !!!
It's definitely documented bro. He's taking care of all my medical bills, I'm still getting a full paycheck every Friday and we've settled on a few grand for my pain. I could go after him and trust me, he's fucking loaded. But I am not that way.
Good on you buddy, I know you are not at all the kind of guy that would do that to a friend. There are plenty of cunts that would but you aren't one of them at all.
Down but NOT out! I’ve had injuries like this ( not leg but arm and shoulder). When I was able to train again and merely lift 2 lb dumbbells it was euphoric and felt as if I had touched the hand of god. Every pound I added was as rewarding as if I added 100. The gains I made and that u will make were incredible and made me appreciate how miraculous the human body and mind are. Sorry for your pain and set back. u r way ahead of the game with ur positive energy and appreciation of life. All the best
Thank you brother! I absolutely appreciate your encouraging words. Means alot to me
Do you work on your own farm or for an employer buddy? If its for someone else then there must be a good claim available for this.
It's one of my best friend's ranch. I live here, I work here. I love it here. I couldn't NEVER bring myself to go after him. He's taking care of me well
I totally understand the situation mate
So we are sticking to chest, shoulders, back, and arm day then ;)
You know it brother! Just gotta heal up and get past this pain. I don't think I could do a single push up right now. Kinda in agony still
OHH FUCKIN HELL MAN - THIS BREAKS MY HEART.
REALY SORRY TO SEE THIS MATE
I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing up the top there, couldn't work out how it looked like your entire foot was crushed too - now I see why. I guess a 2.5 Tonne tractor bucket will do that to you.
Thank Fuck you are ALIVE buddy, thats all I can say - look like a few inches either way and that would of been your head under that bucket.
