Grunting and being aggressive in the gym

ad

Hi guys, just would like to hear your opinion on grunting, being loud and working out aggressively in the gym. do you guys think its appropriate or is it disturbing other members. can it be just ego or it is due to the heavy iron being lifted. i guess every one of us at gym has experienced it while lifting heavy.

If you're a professional athlete cranking out a last rep its admissible. If you're a regular schmuck at the local gym and feel the need shriek like a little bitch like you're Sharapova with every set then you are a fucking joke.

im usually silent .. but every now and then ill grunt on accident due to lifting real heavy that day..

The grunting doesn't bother me I usually have my I pod on. But one thing is for Fucking sure I'm packing a paint ball gun in my gym bag and the next person I see drying their balls with the HAND dryer will be painted.

I sure in the hell hope there is no grunting and yelling involved with this!

DBG's picture

LOL...yea really!

Greg's picture

I guess it would matter on the gym you're going to. Planet Fitness or Mighty Mick’s in Phily

I believe if you have to grunt, growl, bark, spit, to Achieve your best then so be it. Obviously there is no need for yelling when ur benching a whole 100 lbs, but if you going for a PR and you have to let a grunt out then so be it..like roll tide said, I would much rather hear people growling and grunting and working their ass off than people playing on their phones talking about god knows what And not busting their ass..so with that being said GRUNT ON ANIMALS!!!

cdyrdes's picture

I do it, not like a wild grizzly bear though. Sometimes I think people go overboard a tad but if you feel the need to scream from deep within your scrotum to make a lift then do it! Lol

Damn! Does it really weigh 130lbs? If mine was that big I would name it.

DBG's picture

Lmao...well yea, that's just plain ridiculous!! And that dude needs kicked in his tiny scrotum Smile

cdyrdes's picture

What really hits a nerve with me is the "ric flair" guys. You know the guys who scream Whoooo! After every set even if it was light weight...lol

Pale's picture

I think normal grunts and growls are fine, I do it myself. But the guys that just get plain obnoxious with it have issues.

rolltide3's picture

Who cares if u grunt or loud. I'm at the gym for me and could care less if someone doesn't like it. It's annoying as fuck to me having to walk around all the old men sitting there talking acting like there working out taking spots I need to be.

vhman's picture

I think it all depends on how much the person grunts/yells and on what lift/amount. If someone is grunting/yelling because they are really pushing it, I have no problem with that. If they yell/grunt with every lift, no matter what it is, then I think they have mental problems.
It also bothers me when folks yell/grunt when they are lifting 45lb dumbbells for flat bench. Raise it up the lbs. and I may only shoot you a glare here and there. ;-)

DBG's picture

Damn right it's appropriate. The gym is where you grunt, spittle flying, farting, burping, busting a hemorrhoid, etc happens and no one should frown on you for it. That's why planet fitness licks a ballsack.

cdyrdes's picture

Lmao!
