Seems majority opinion of buff people is to assume they use steroids, meat head, etc. Just seems horrible :(

I hear you bro, mofos just straight up ask what i am on, some people on the streets stare at me with that look like like im disgusting muscle monster, but that shit makes me happy.. that means its working,, i'm absolutely @ the gym to be the biggest,most disgusting mofo i can be.. take that as a compliment your hard work is paying off.. and besides in my head i know that im skinny as helll near the real big boys like jay and phil..

AnonOkay... Here is Sundays update. Most everyone I k ow tries to support this one locally owned chain of grocery stores in my city. The atmosphere here is nothing like Walmart. I put on a pair of cargo shorts, a sleeveless tee shirt from my gym, that has a huge fist holding up a bent barbell and find my way in the grocery store. I am polite and courteous the whole time not muscling my way down the isle. When I came around a big stack of monster energy drinks this young lady stopped and was looki g at me pretty hard. I smiled and ask "how are you?" I was looking for some flaxseed milk and this little gal drug me all over the store giving me samples of these nuts for men that is high in omega 3. I get to the counter and ask the young lady if she has had a busy day and she starts getting all chatty. This thing about getting negativity for being Swole is less than a hypothesis. There could be some correlative things to debate about but that's about it. I can show you a graph that proves as ice cream sale go up, so does violent crime and road rage but correlation is not causation.

I have not ever gotten any negative comments unless someone was hating. I hear a good comment most everyday the last month but I have also heard a lot of steroid ? comments lately but what do I really care I just take a lot of protein.

Here is what i think... 2 people can get different looks and "reactions" because of their "actions"
We have this one guy at the gym who walks around with his lats flexed all the time, we call him lat man. He's all flared up like a rotisserie chicken. The other day I seen a bunch of people in a parking lot and there was one guy who had is chest all flared out so everyone can see it. I thought it looked distasteful.
According to the "looking glass self" there can be a lot of misinterpretation between us and others.

Ever seen the guy that walks around at work thinking he knows everything? He thinks that you believe he knows everything as well. He thinks he knows everything, because he believes that you think' he knows everything.
Okay the negativity comes from being a pompous asshole. I never flare up and don't feel the need to do so. Flaring up is aggressive.
Is there anyone else on here that gets nothing but compliments on the way they look?
I get all compliments even from my buddies who may start out busting my balls a little. I think it is all how we carry ourselves, if you carry yourself like a douche people will treat you as such, if you project strength and sensibility the same applies..

There was this old black lady with shabby clothes going into a store once and I held the door open for her and smiled. I guess she didn't know what to think, she acted like she didn't trust me and was afraid I was going to slam the door on her.
I totally disagree with you. I'm pretty "swole" or whatever you want to call it. I don't get any negativity at the gym or anything like that. Mostly in public. If I'm walking in the grocery store with my kid in the shopping cart or whatever, I get dudes staring me down or they give you challenging looks. I assume out of jealousy. They are usually not in any kind of shape and accompanied by a female. I don't strut around. I wear loose shirts so I don't look like a show off. I learned after many years to walk around with my shoulders kinda shrugged and my head down so I'm less intimidating. I mean, I'm just a guy with his kid trying to buy diapers, why do you look like you want to fight me, lol. That's just one example of many regular instances. I definitely notice a certain hostility in public places like that, be it the store, the park playing with my kid, the gas station, whatever, so does my wife. Never at the gym though. Maybe because there people know me as a friendly, quiet and humble guy with a family. I don't know.
AnonIts okay to disagree brother but you can only disagree with the way you interpret things and not with the way things happen to me. I have a strong psychology/sociology/philosophy background and I am able to shape a situation pretty quickly. The minute someone makes eye contact with me, it gives me a chance to give them a greeting. The minute I give them a "How are you" we are in civility mode. I open the door for ladies, I greet older people with a Sir' or Miss. I went back to the university 3 years ago and was a hit with "kids" young enough to be my children. Some of this has come with age and I am aware of it and there are people who you just cant reach but I have found this percentage to be low.

The other night we had dinner with my family.. Keep in mind these are people that I love but do not like to be around.. the gossip and blah blah.. Anyway, we get to the restaurant sit down and start talking.. well some moments pass I get up to go the restroom and my aunt says "WOW! You've really been working out.. I can tell.. I mean you are soo thick now... where before you were so skinny and boney.." I think that's the moment when she realized that maybe is was a compliment and maybe it wasn't... so she started back peddling telling me how she thought I looked great and I looked better with meat on my bones... Now, could I have taken that wrong.. yes I really could have said.. "what's do you mean thick?? Am I getting fat?" the list goes on but you get the point.. instead I said.. "I understand what you are saying and yes I have been hitting the gym a little more.. I like having some muscle on me... thank you for the compliment.. So it's all in how you take it.. and how you see yourself as well.
This is really good! I get a lot of looks but I find people staring at my scars more than anything and they are not pretty even though I have had extensive work done on them, if didn't have that work I would have made Frankenstein look handsome lol.
Mostly it is the guys I work with who notice a difference I can't say I am really around a lot of other people to know what they think. Also I think I am in good shape for my age but I don't see myself at all being like Bodybuilder or Viking where clearly there is a massive difference from the rest of society.

Yeah I think body language is a big key. You know that I am big with MMA and I have friends that honestly would be considered fat and out of shape by some here. But I will tell you they are some bad mofos and could run circles around guys with the biggest muscles. I have also seen skinny little guys out a major ass whooping on guys 70lbs heavier.
So when I see a person I honestly do not make a preconceived judgement about their toughness or how good of shape they are in. I appreciate the compliment my friend I may have some muscles that stick out but for real I would not say my outer shell is pretty to look at.
I believe you nailed on the body language and like you said when a guy flares out I always see that as a sign of insecurity.

Honestly brother I would settle to see man who are strong in character, principle, provision, and most important no self justification when you are wrong. So men will make strong bodies just to hide what a weak ass insecure person they really are. I believe the optimal is strong mind, body and spirit if you believe that you posses all three but I think you get the point. One of the first things of that is learning to not give a shit what others think if they are not where you want to be. If they are where you want to be than you would be stupid not to care what they think if it will help you achieve your goals. Also I hear this a lot from people "I don't give a shit what other people think of me!" I always reply than why the hell did you have to say that? If you really are over what others think you don't even think about saying those words.
We all care how we come across to one degree or another...the only way to come to conquer it is to stop lying to yourself and get a sober view of where you are at.
