DO YOU CARRY CASH....OR USE YOUR DEBIT CARD???

ad

I saw a report on the news the other day that made reference to the fact that 46% of Americans are no longer using cash for the vast majority of purchases, including very small transactions under a dollar--- BLOWS MY MIND that banks are herding us into bank accounts... companies are forcing people into direct deposit, and now many businesses are no longer accepting cash. This is NOT GOOD (depending on how you look at it). Every move you make is recorded, and basically, everywhere you go as well. The media constantly tries to downplay bitcoin and tries to scare the public by saying how bad bitcoin is. Banks HATE bitcoin and the government fears it.
So... a little just curious here..... Do you use cards exclusively?

Cash is King next to gold. But goddamit gold is getting expensive. And plastic only makes other rich.

DSTER's picture

Cash for the tipping and credit for everything else.
1.5-5% back dawg.

leanbulk819's picture

i usually take $20 out of the atm and use that for bagels and/or coffee. plus the gas station i go to is cash only. other than that i usually use my debit card

The Impastable's picture

Cash? You mean that green paper thingy? That’s still around?!

Darkhorse777's picture

I use both but mainly my card for the convenience

dansta's picture

I own a small business
it would easily run on 90%
card transactions!

last night -lets just say...
debit savings was $60
credit was $740

cash was less than half that
and the majority of sales was via Apps-corparate.
we were once a independant mum and dad business
-now I dont know wtf is going on anymore..

but without it-you might aswell shut shop,
as customers are lazy without it
much rather press a few buttons than have a chat in person or over the phone.

lets say you get 100 orders
total people that phone in
would be 15,
and 10 of them would still be card.

people dont even have money,we are slaves now or soon will be once AI reduces us down to the real great depression, then finally extinctsion
at this rate we will all see it unravel.

I carry both,,small amount of cash and my bank card.

Cash, gold, .22 LR's and Spam. As the end of the world progresses these will be currency. They are listed in the order they will become most coveted. However when the power grid crashes I believe printed porn could upset this balance in a major way.....

IrishJerk's picture

Yep, I always keep a wad of cash close for those times when someone wants to sell me something he doesn’t want the wife to get in the divorce. But the debit card is getting popular in my wallet now...

I barely even use debit or cash anymore everything is on my phone now credit cards debit and direct deposit if I order online it auto fills or if I'm at a store I just tap my phone against the swipe machine but in some rare cases I'll have to pull the plastic out. Only time I have cash is when I win on scratch tickets/scratch offs

GrowMore's picture

I'm a plastic man unless I'm doing cocaine then I use plastic and cash notes.

7gothic's picture

LOL... that shit makes my heart race these days... wouldn't touch it with a ten foot straw now.

GrowMore's picture

Bad joke!

helloBrooklyn's picture

Mostly cash, with the exception of the tanning salon which only takes card for understandable reasons.

Dr.BroScience's picture

I use the worthless paper currency my government keeps printing out of thin air exclusively for my daily purchases.

Paying percentage fees on every purchase for the privilege of using a card is lunacy.

In the same vein we all know you simply cannot trust the criminal international banking cartels

Well Fargo anybody? To name one.

Well Fargo.... "Together, we'll go far"
Crooks!

My wages go into my account and pay for insurance etc via direct debit but if I could I'd do everything in cash but it's not possible.

Cash for day to day stuff. Cards for everything tax deductible and large purchases where a record is handy.

KMC's picture

Cash 90% of the time, m.o.'s the other 9%. Almost never a card.

Here's a good article I read on cryptocurrencies the other day, pretty interesting:

http://listverse.com/2017/12/24/10-cryptocurrency-alternatives-to-bitcoin/

This is an overall interesting site too, been reading it every day for years. Love the "10 mind blowing things that happened this week" that they do every friday.

Nope. I have one actual credit card and one debit card for my business that I use mostly for fuel. I use cash maybe not as much as I traditionally have but I also do use BTC. We must be careful not to let the banks get any more power than they already have.

Notice all of the negative news stories you see about BTC. That is fear and propaganda.

7gothic's picture

Well said!!.... you can see what they are trying to do.

Up until I retired I always used a card because my checks were direct deposit. Now I work in mainly a cash buisness. My opinion is cash is king. The card company’s get a kickback from the merchant. It’s rigged...

I feel the same way, cash is king, but I'm noticing a transitional phase at retailers, especially self-checkouts, many are debit/credit only and just a few registers accept cash. Not only that some businesses kinda frown when you pay with cash, can't even hardly break a $50, no change in the register. I expect over the next few years this will get worse and cash will be harder to spend. I bet some places will just stop accepting it. It's coming.

Greg's picture

...especially self-checkouts

I remember when ATM's first hit the street. They were awesome, no more bank lines, free, and 24/7
Now they have a fee and there are still no bank lines but also no more tellers.

I've stopped using ATM's unless I have no other choice. I refuse to use the self checkouts. When some Kroger employee tries to steer me towards the self checkout because there's no line, I loudly ask them if they see me wearing a Kroger shirt, and how much discount do I get to check myself out.

In a nutshell under the guise of "convenience" they train you to do the work that an employee traditionally would have to do.

Phase one: train the consumer
Phase two: reduce the number of checkers/tellers (increases the lines)
Phase three: Sell the idea that ATM's and Self Registers are costly to maintain. (nevermind that they are cheaper than humans)
Phase four: Start charging a "convenience fee" to use self checkout or ATM.

“you see me wearing a Kroger shirt “
LOL!!

Cummin apart's picture

Lol! I like the “you see me wearing a Kroger shirt “. I feel the same way, every time I have used one of the self check out machines I always have a problem with something, and have to get someone to help me anyway!

And exactly they will phase some kind of fee in the use of self checkout.
In some ways I miss the old days

I do use my debit card for most purchase. That said, I do not keep the majority of my money in a bank.
I spoke with a friend and fellow cryptocurrency investor and he has something called a shift card. I wasnt familiar with it but he can almost instantly shift btc onto a debit style card and pay for anything that would normally accept a card. I dont know much about it but I find the prospect of using crypto more and more appealing. I used it almost exclusively for xmas gifts this year.

Shift is a visa card and as such still is a KYC (know your customer) instrument.

Bitcoin through coinbase is KYC
Using bitcoin for an online purchase requiring name and address (usually for shipping) is KYC.
Debit card, checks, credit cards all KYC

Cash, barter, or real money (e.g., gold, silver, copper, BTC) is NOT KYC.

That said I do use my debit or credit card everywhere.

I use cash for purchases I don't want anyone to know about, including my wife, e.g., cannabis store, porn shop, gaming, and underground fight club... oh ya, I almost forgot the bordello.

I use a private bitcoin wallet to transfer peer to peer that has never had a direct transaction sent from or to it from a KYC entity (like Coinbase or amazon)

KYC is a double edged sword. On one hand I can imagine a day where KYC technology will be so thoroughly invasive that you won't need to fill out a tax return, the state or fed will send you an itemized tax bill just like a utility bill you get today. On the other hand I can get 50 cents off on premade mashed potatoes and 10 cents off a gallon of gas for every $100 I spend using my (KYC) store membership card... Who wants to give up that? I know I don't.

To be honest, I am not bothered too much by KYC transactions as long as there is money that can filter out those things I want to keep to myself, including philanthropy. It helps paint a picture of a wholesome persona on government databases. While money allows me the freedom to get my freak on in the erids van with ed looking for tweekers and hookers (usually one and the same)

Jayzgainz's picture

Good info ! Thanks! I still use coinbase to transfer btc to my purse acct for purchases on Amazon but thats about it. I use my other online wallet for other purchases that might flag others and only shift enough in to cover my purchase. But now that I think about it perhaps I need to enlist another. There is so much to learn regarding cryptocurrency. I am looking into different alt coins now strictly as an investment tool. I have ether and litecoin but there are so many. I really dont have an issue with the kyc services myself. If big brother really wants to know what sort of bread I buy, then fine. But yea, if he tries to step in and regulate the tweeking tranny hookers, thats where the line gets drawn. Unless they start offering bogo

I also avoid Coinbase like the plague.

Not me. I did at one point but had my debit card cloned twice! Once at a big retailer, probably the biggest here in the U.S. Had to talk to FBI, they told me when I used my card at the register all the info from the card gets stored in a computer, then some asshole that works there goes in and transfers info to a thumb drive. Next step is to use a hotel key card machine and a laptop with that thumb drive inserted then viola, cloned debit credit cards. Somehow they're also able to override your limits. That particular case I had $500 overdraft protection, so balance shouldn't exceed -$500, but I called my account one morning and it was -$7500. Crazy. Anyway, I only use my debit card at my bank and my bank ATM. For online purchases I have a prepaid card I load for each purchase. Other than that I carry cash.

I have been looking at cryptocurrencies. Kinda interested. Anything to phuck the gub'ment, lol.

Huggybear1's picture

Not from the US myself but I don’t generally carry or use cash much anymore to be honest. Convenience of things like debit cards and Apple Pay on my phone are too easy and tempting even if we are constantly being tracked.
