+ 1 BUILDING MY FIRST COMPUTER

ad

Being on gear gives you a sense of well-being and vigor. It also gives you confidence. And if you run the doses that I run, it can even make you one cocky, arrogant mother fucker.
And that's why I decided last week that I was going to build my first computer---even though I don't know shit about them. All I know about computers is how to turn them on, if I can find the power switch. I know that computers can help you get steroids online. I know that computers are used to learn about things like Giraffes and elephants and Hippos. I know that computers help the police catch bad men who didn't show up for court and then get pulled over for a tail light out. (fuckers never served me!!!). I know that computers can show pictures naked women...LOTS and LOTS of pictures of naked women....and I know (now) that computers can be very expensive to fix---after looking at LOTS and LOTS of pictures of naked women.
So with computers being so cool, and me being so confident, I decided to build my very own, high-powered gaming computer.
Liquid cooling, 3gb video card, 16 gigs of ram, blue ray burner, ssd, and a decent quad core cpu. Everything went great....it was fun as hell. Until I hit the power button.
THAT BITCH IS SITTING AT BEST BUY RIGHT NOW IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT ON LIFE SUPPORT!
Goddamn You Tube videos made it look so easy.
Anyway, here is a pic of what it looks like...a Level 10 GT case Snow Edition. Hopefully I'll have it back early next week.

lolz.
You went all out the rig homie!
Hopefully bestbuy doesn't make your shit worse... that's been my experience when I have to come behind them to fix peoples rigs.

Rule of thumb I use when doing a build from scratch, start out only putting in bare minimum parts and try not to buy all of the newest stuff for a complete build--thats asking for hours and hours of trouble shooting.

7gothic's picture

Turns out the mobo was bad, and I did everything right afterall.
Now to fight it out with MSI to get them to refund the cash.

dboy27's picture

Sweet--MSI is pretty hassle free. You could also rma with the retailer since its brand new.

Now just get ready for the endless addiction--upgrading when the newest PWNING gear comes out in a week!

dboy27's picture

I stick with 3 major online retailers and haven't had a problem returning defective mb's... sucks they won't take yours back :(

And usually hassle free describes most of the major parts manufacturers but I'm over 12mths in a dispute with asus and many people swear by them--go figure. Sometimes you just run into issues; stand firm.

I've seen stock Mx-18's for as low as 1699....Newegg has them in stock.
Keep in mind that smasher has his suped up. That's like comparing a stock v-6 Mustang to a supercharged Mustang Cobra with Nitrous. A stock Mx-18 will run Skyrim at high settings.

My laptop is the alienware m18x

Grrrl is going to get one in a week or two....she may want to talk to you first to see what your opinion is on the performance.

7gothic's picture

Skyrim....maxed out on ultra settings
Bioshock infanite
GTA 5 (OMG...can't wait)
Mass Effect 3
Batman Arkham City

Those are the games I'll be playing this year as they are released. Grrrl plays skyrim now on her system, but I only played a few levels before my other rig went belly-up. Skyrim is the game that a lot of people have waited thier whole life to see. Unbelievable.

7gothic's picture

Grrrl plays Assassin's Creed... I've played it some.
My favorite games are Sandbox titles with an open world.... Crysis, Fallout 3, GTA 4 and hopefully soon, GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, and of course, Skyrim---a world where you can go wherever you want...and do whatever you want. I'm going to pick up N4S The Run also...I already have a nice wheeel/pedal set.
I usually buy games, but have downloaded a few.

Thanks!

I have an online steroid company called Northern Gear. Business is a little off right now, but I'm hoping things will pick back up as soon as we get another crop of new guys here on eroids next month.

If it was power cycling it was probably something simple like memory incompatibility, which is extremely common. You could try running a single stick of memory and updating the board's bios. Also you should install a speaker to the mobo at least temporarily while building, post code's are at least moderately useful. If you need some help with your shit, I can probably do it in pm's. I've been building pc's for 16 years now, and I watercool my shit too.

7gothic's picture

Thanks Bro. I may be PMing you soon.
I did install a speaker on the board, and I pulled ram off the board gradually, but was never able to get far enough to get into the mobo bios.
Best Buy will have to bear the burden of it now....lol

smokenu2's picture

you probably mixed your power wires from the start button to the mother board or some other hard drive wires ect. also if you don't have everything seated it won't boot. it could be a bunch things but I would have at least torn it back apart and made sure all was connected and wired right. Computers aren't as hard as people think to build. as a matter of fact all best buy will do if it were up and running is to over write your software and charge ya about 150 bucks. Sorry to hear it man. when you get it back if you are still having issues pm me.

Thank you sir... I appreciate it.

I had to take mine in for servicing about 6 months ago.........., when it blew up last month and I had to take it back in, I was surprised at how huge the geek that worked on it last had gotten, he had put on at least 25 pound of muscle and cut like a son of a bitch.

He told me the old computor was DOA, .....oh well, it's now a recycled computer for $125.

Lucky for him his job isn't physical...so he gets plenty of rest.

Yeah, at time I almost think someone has been using my username. But it could be my mind going.

LOL....one of the girl "agents" asked me...Hey is that your gaming rig in the back"? and gave me bedroom eyes.
And all this time I thought it was bad-ass cars that got chicks.

7gothic's picture

We've got two other computer stores around here and neither one seems to give a shit about getting your shit fixed quickly. It took me 6 days to get a quote on a new rig. That's part of the reason why I decided to build my own. Best Buy seems to be the lesser of 3 evils.
I guess business be good for computer shops, because they act like they don't care if they get your business or not.

7gothic's picture

Came on for 5 seconds...then off for 5...then on for 5....then off...and so on untill I turned the power supply off. BB is telling me the mobo is bad....Nice board, an MSI P67 GD80.

7gothic's picture

Yeah, I actually did that....I even pulled the CPU fan off, thinking the one provided with the CPU didn't have enough thermal paste on it, which it didn't. They place the mobo in another system and it's doing the same thing.

eatbig's picture

That looks bad ass goth. Only $300 before your mods, keybord, and monitor of corse? I need one of those.

7gothic's picture

With the case and all my internal goodies...about $2100...My monitor and peripherals are already gtg, although I'm going from 24" monitor to a 30" in the spring.
