Bitcoin

ad

For anyone that didn't already know Bitcoin will be doing a split as of July 31,2017. So half of the nodes will but running software that is not compatible with the current which will result in some nodes propagating confirmed results and that other won't recognize.

Basically, any btc received or sent after may get to its destination or it may not, and on the chance it does make it to the correct address it may disappear which means you lose money even when buying from atms or reliable sources.

This form of payment has become a big part of this community and when a source shared this with me I figured everyone should known if they didn't already. So spend them if you have them or put them in cold storage or on a flash drive or something else to keep your money safe.

https://bitcoin.org/en/alert/2017-07-12-potential-split

If for some reason I've posted this in a wrong area can a mod please either move it or notify me and I'll make the changes.

The transactions during this attack have been anywhere between 10-30+ bucks per transaction.

A bounce off of $6000 Is looking more likely, .......... just watch out for a dead cat.

Bitcoin is looking pretty cheap right now ;-)

Greg's picture

Man, what a pump and dump bloodbath that was with Bitcoin Cash... :- /

...drawing the bow to shoot for 7k?

Pale's picture

I don't know, I do know I wish I had waited to claim snd then convert my bitcoin cash.

Pale's picture

Truthfully I would prefer it just stabilize for a bit

Greg's picture

Same here... but at 7k

We've seen this before, only worse.

on 6/11 we were at $3000 and dropped to $1800 by 7/15 (-$1200 or 40%)
on 9/01 we were at $5000 and dropped to $3000 by 9/14 (-$2000 or 40%)

Current: 11/08 we were at $7800 and dropped to $5600 by 11/11 (-$2200 or 28%)

Historically, we're still standing strong.

Pale's picture

Yea, I am holding and I reassure myself the same, but we all still feel a twinge of nerves and doubt.

Pale's picture

My thoughts as well. If you are on the sidelines waiting for a strike it is now

Pale's picture

They called off the 2x fork and she just blasted into new record territory.

Carlos Danger's picture

fuck this shit is crazy man. Greg you seriously scare me how well you know your shit.

Pale's picture

LOL, just cracked 6,900.00. This shit is crazy, but money is pouring in...

Greg's picture

Peaked just north of $7,400

This is going to be interesting...

We have the potential of a fork in the next 2 weeks where for every bitcoin you'll get an equal amount of Bitcoin2X (currently trading for $1,000 in a "futures market") which can make people rush in to buy before the fork so they can get a bigger "airdrop" of free money in the form of B2X coins.

Combine that with the CME (an American financial market company operating the world's largest options and futures exchange) announcement that they are going to start a BTC Futures market which will bring in billions of more dollars into the BTC market and open the door wider for other wall street players to follow.

Fighting that upward pressure is that BTC is probably overpriced right now and should see a pull back to $6,600 or even $6,400.

Pale's picture

I was reading about the split earlier. This time I won't chicken out lol

em35's picture

Don't ignore litecoin either. I recently bought A bunch of them, They are very affordable right now. It wasn't that long ago that you could get A bitcoin for $50-$60 so who knows how high they might go.

Pale's picture

So now we are at 5700. I told a friend I was going to buy more when it hit 3000, well the day it did it turned and burned before I had a chance. :(

Theophany's picture

Thankfully to both you brother Pale and brother Greg, I was able to get buy Bitcoin below 3,000 and Ethereum below 200 after the July pullback! It's extraordinarily difficult to time a market, but all the more so with Cryptos because of their wide price swings and volatility! Brother Greg below offers some sound advice! Wishing you the best moving forward!

Pale's picture

How does doubling your money feel brother? Smile

Theophany's picture

It's been quite the ride brother Pale! It feels pretty darn good, thanks to you and Brother Greg! I wish I'd invested more but it's all good! I split the investment 50/50 between Bitcoin and Ethereum! Although I'm still sitting on a nice profit from Ethereum, Bitcoin has been the rising star!
On Wednesday, after the CME stated they were going to trade Bitcoin contracts on its exchange, coinbase stated they added 100,000 investors to its subscriber base in one day! More monies should be flowing in!
Bitcoin 10,000 is a large possibility by years end! Wishing you much prosperity Pale!

Pale's picture

I previously said I was going to cash out at 10k if it gets there but I am no longer sure that is the end.

Greg's picture

by the time we get to 10k it won't seem too high.

think back to all the other milestones, $3000 seemed like an impossible reach, $4000 unsustainable.... now, If it dropped to $4000 from here, everyone would be on a buying frenzy.

Likewise, when it reaches 10k, if it dropped to $7500, there would be a massive buying frenzy to get the cheap BTC... right now our emotions tell us it is that it is too expensive to buy in.

Pale's picture

But then I remind myself how minuscule the amount of crypto currency is in comparison to fiats or gold and I feel good again that it still has tons of growth to do.

joey_ragz's picture

I know bro I got a little bit of it I’m holding on to and it’s adjusting a couple bucks here and there. Hoping it takes a dive so I can get more.

Greg's picture

When it hits 6000, a physiological barrier, it'll trigger sell orders. Newbs will panic and start selling too. And, the price will drop about 20% to the 5000 - 4800 range. That would be your buy time.

When it drops, bankers and other bears will claim it's the end of bitcoin, Those same people who sold at 6000 will be buying back their coins, you and others will buy in on a FOMO frenzy. And the price will quickly recover hitting new highs over the 6000 price point. Bitcoin fanboys and "experts" will claim it will reach $15,000 to $20,000 in 6 months.

After the recovery, people will see 6000 as being a reasonable price for bitcoin, and can't imagine it ever dropping to 5000 again let alone 4000.

$1000, $2000, and $3000 were once that lofty height that no one thought was sustainable. Now it's not even thought of as a possible low point. $4,800 is bitcoins new rock bottom.

Or, it'll trade sideways for a while and creep over 6000 and have a few false starts getting to 7000. When it does, reread paragraph 2 and 3 again.

So here's your dilemma, Do you hold out till $6000 in hopes it drops. If it doesn't you'll lose 5% ($300) or more in buying power than you have today. If it does drop you might gain 10% to 15% ($600 -$800) more buying power than you have today.

Where you don't want to be is not in the game. No matter where you step in, it'll always be a, "I wish I had bought when it was X dollars".

Even I'm susceptible to the psychology of the 20% retracement. Today I'm thinking i'm glad I got in a while ago, look how expensive it is today at $5,700. When it climbs to $7000 and crashes to $5,800 I'll be thinking, "Damn, what a buy opportunity."

In short, it's always a good time to buy if your focus is on the long game.

joey_ragz's picture

Hahaha you’re telling me. I said “dam what an opportunity” when it was a couple hundred up from $6 a coin when I first learned about it. Been kicking myself in the ass ever since.

Theophany's picture

Always sound and solid advice from you brother Greg, thank you! I read an article recently, which I'm sure you read also, that Jamie Dimpn is so anti-Bitcoin because banks stand to lose much money the more Bitcoin gains widespread acceptance! I wish he would just keep his trap shut!

Pale's picture

Exactly. The banks should be scared. Even the IMF laughed Jamie off and said crypto are no joke anymore.

Theophany's picture

I recall reading that article also brother Pale! It a amazing how Cryptos, in the last year, have been popping up on regular stock market news feeds! I'm not tech savvy at all, and really couldn't go into detail about the blockchain technology! But I realize that we are living in an advancing digital world, and it just makes sense that digital currencies will be embraced and thrive! Their was a time when paper money underwent the same scrutiny :))

Pale's picture

Another new high today over 4700.00

Juicemonkey29's picture

I saw where there expected to reach over 5000.00 soon

Greg's picture

There is an interesting thing happening ever since Bitcoin Cash mined their first block...

BTC has been on a tear gaining new highs
BCC hanging out at $300 for the last several weeks announces their first mined block
BCC price jumps to $800 (of course I just exchanged mine for BTC a few days before)
At the same time BTC drops in value...
BCC starts to pull back, and BTC starts to go up again.

BTC up BCC down
BCC up BTC down

Back and forth like that for the last couple of days... You'd almost think a group of investors are taking profits from one coin, selling and driving down the price. then, buying low in the other driving the price up. You'd almost think that, but nah, that wouldn't happen...

Pale's picture

That is likely the case but BCC is still holding its gains and BTC seems to have a floor around 4,000

joey_ragz's picture

It's crazy with what happened to btc in 4 months!

Pale's picture

Over 3800 now this morning. Crazy!

Theophany's picture

You know brother Pale, I invested what would be considered late in the game! I'm only in cryptocurrencies about one month! In that month Bicoin is up $1,000 and Ethereum is up $130 from my purchase price!
It could very well go lower as these are extremely volatile currencies! But if you're in it for the long haul, I believe these to be profitable instruments!
Many are saying that these cryptocurrencies are in their infancy, so who knows what the future holds in store! Wherever you turn there's growth, companies accepting them as payment, options trading on exchanges and fidelity recently tracking their price on its website!

Pale's picture

I started in February and it has been nothing short of mindblowing.

Theophany's picture

Good for you brother Pale! Wishing you much success and prosperity! :))

Greg's picture

BTC is on the rise, new highs reached $3490.
BCC/BCH, the result of the fork, if you had them and reclaimed them was at $396 but has retreated to $280 where it has mostly been since the fork.

Ripple XRP hasn't moved a goddamn inch in all the time I've held it (actually down a few cents so I'm holding at a loss at the moment)

Civic (CVC) an awesome coin with a real product that works. I joined the ICO (my first), unfortunately where I ended up in line I was only able to buy 2,500 tokens for $250 worth of ETH. (10 cents a share)

3 weeks ago was when our coins were distributed. It's market value at that time til now was 20 cents. Not bad, 100% return in about 1 week.

I figured that I'd be happy if the coin was worth $1 by this time next year. For some reason over night the coin has been climbing now trading at 70 cents per coin. My stupid $250 is now $1,750 in just 3 weeks after it's release. Some are saying it could get to 4 or 5 dollars by this time next year (of course this comes mostly from fan boys of the coin so take that with a grain of salt)

That said, those who are looking for a horse to bet on, this could be it. I'd check out all you can about the coin first, I also suspect that there is a bit of FOMO in this run up so I'd wait until there's a pull back before buying this coin if your were so inclined.

When I say horse to bet on I mean just that. Do not invest more than you're willing to lose in anything. My wife is of a mind that this is all fake so she's ok with me spending fake money to buy fake money. And with me losing 10's of thousands of fake money dollars.

Maybe someday I'll buy her a not so fake car with the fake money for her birthday.

Theophany's picture

The Crypto Guru has spoken! :))
Wishing you prosperity brother Greg and thank you for all your time and help in getting me started! You've been great!

joey_ragz's picture

Yea I'm just not going to use BTC for a while. As much as I hate the lack of anonymity associated with other payment methods they are more secure. I'll make whatever orders I need to make prior to the 31st however after that I'm not touching it and all my btc is going in cold storage on a flash drive until the currency is stable again.

Greg's picture

You're incorrect. If you spend your coin right after the fork, your coin will get to where it is going, but, you'll be double spending until your BTC is unlinked from your BTU.

joey_ragz's picture

Maybe I misunderstood but that's what I took from the article. Regardless of whether my take was correct or not though there will be issues and it should not be considered a very reliable form of currency which was my point.
