Be Honest, who doesn't really train legs?

ad

I don't really train legs. I do here and there, but I'm not an athlete anymore, so I don't see there's any point for me to have big legs. Right now, my legs are measuring at 25 inches, and calves are 16 inches.

.....Yes my upper body looks bigger than my lower body, my biceps(18 inches) are bigger than my calves.....my legs are genetically big, so I had always have bigger legs than my upper body, and I always wanted big arms, back, chest, and shoulders, and and I got them, but I'm not satisfy yet, I want them t be BIGGER.

My squat max is the same as my bench which is at 405lb.

Was training them once a week.. moved on to twice a week and saw BIG results.. great growth and I was loving it. But being the person that I am, i pushed it to hard again and again.. agitated an old injury in my left knee. Long story short, I'm gonna need surgery.. nothing major but it has prevented my from being able to do squats for a while and they have shrunk a bit.. I can't kneel over and put pressure on that knee, it's just too uncomfortable and gets inflamed. Don't have a problem with anything else besides squats cause it involves so much knee flexion.

One thing I don't like about squats is that my ass gets bigger lol.. A lot of ppl have mentioned it. Girls and guys.

I would never ignore them though, if I were you I would hit them twice a week.

really your ass gets bigger, I'm still waiting brother, my wife says it looks like my ass got smacked more than once with a sheet of plywood LOL. first year weight training I did not train legs I was always leg dominate, long torso short legs, now it's everything once s week lagging parts twice.

outofacomic's picture

Haha yeah bro, it has gotten bigger and rounder. even in loose baggy pants or shorts you can tell. I've had women tell me I have a better chest and ass than them LOL. I was squatting 2x per week going below parallel EVERY rep. one session would focus on heavier weight lower reps. The 2nd session would be moderate weight higher reps. My Legs blew up big time.

I remember a couple years ago when I took a few month break from working out and when I resumed I squatted really hard and did a few other leg exercises. I was sore as shit and then my buddy asked me to help him move out of his apartment that was on the 20th floor. I was crippled for a few days.

Every week I have to make myself go in and train legs but when I finish and hobble back to the house I have the greatest feeling of accomplishment. Only leg day does this for me. A solid leg roitine definitely tests your metal

Monday is leg day! Best day because for whatever reason all dbags flock to the flat bench and incline on Mondays. Why the hell do they do that? It's like Mondays is chest day for everyone! You can literally get any other workout in on Mondays.

I think posts like this are further proof that you are still too young to be running gear. You should cycle off, take a little break, get a decent workout routine and come back in a few years. I don't say that to be mean, I say that because I don't want you to one day wake up and wonder why you are going through male menopause at 25. It's about caring brother, and I care.

Personally i wouldn't even consider not training legs....imo strong legs and a nice ass on a man is very very sexy! but thats just my opinion some women prob find chicken legs hot?!?! ok maybe not any women who work out

I train legs just like any other body part. In fact each leg workout used to be right of passage for me for the upcoming upper body workouts. I told myself kill it else id feel bad. Now, I look forward to a leg day just like any other coz I dont at all want to be top heavy. I've seen such guys and I don't want tht kinda look.

legs , back, shoulders, rest day, chest, arms, rest day

Deadlifter85's picture

I try to hit them once every 5-6 days. I don't like to go a full week with anything as I feel I loose some of the training effect waiting that long. 4-5 days for smaller muscles.

Neglect your legs and you'll hurt your back!

masterongear's picture

I am living proof of this right here! Now I work my legs and this was after I ruptured my L5 S1 and took 2 years to heal. Never neglect the wheels!! I learned the hard way, and I had big legs too naturally, figured I did not need to focus on them. Stupid lazy bitch I was and I payed the price.

Legs are important in your training! I use to hate leg days but after you get over that first workout soreness the second one is not half as bad. I train heavy on legs once a week and now look forward to that day.

I hate leg day but I still do it once a week. I thought it was bull shit at first but it really does make your whole body look bigger.

Do what makes you happy! If you don't want to train legs don't, it's your life do what makes you happy. Hope you know what you're missing out on though.

For the record I train legs every Wednesday before I get negged for being a skinny legged bro!

2013 legs once a week if they were lucky. 2014, it's the year of the leg! Working legs 3x a week at the moment and my upper body is booming! I don't know why but it's working. Training legs doesn't just strengthen legs. Get on with it!

When I first started training I neglected legs. But over the last 3 years I do leg day at least once a week if not two. My legs look fantastic in comparison to what they were. Sure legs will bring the pain if you neglect them but the reward is increased strength all around. Unless you have an injury that prevents you from doing them there really is no excuse.

Legs were and always have been part of my routine, but I train them less since my severe knee injury. I had to have several surgeries and it's taken almost 2 years to get back to "normal." I train legs at least once a week, sometimes twice, but I use no where the weight or amount of exercises now. If I do go heavy, I pay for it in pain an swelling. I've learned to listen to my knee and push it just enough. I find that if I ever do miss legs during the week, that I don't feel as good. I like what gear said about being grateful for what we have and taking advantage life and training.

Ive read tons of info on how not working you legs with a massive upper body lead directly to back problems. I have torn my ACL twice but I just adapt to my leg work out, lots of squats, no leg press, and I dont fully extend on leg extensions.

I wish I didn't ! But my wife is a leg nazi so I have too. Lol

Love training legs, my legs are my strongest asset and they are thick as fuawkkk!!!

Leg workouts stimulate some of the largest muscles in your body, which helps create a metabolic state that is conducive to muscle growth. You can build muscle in your upper body without working out your legs, but working all the major muscles in your body will lead to faster and better results. It basically will help you create uniformity. Have you seen those guys in the gym with massive upper body and these tiny little legs? My favorite are the ones with ZERO calf muscle that look like if a breeze comes too fast it will knock them over lol. I HATE working out my legs but I do at least once every 2 weeks to keep stimulating growth everywhere.

You're missing a trick here my man. Squats make you grow in strength in other ways, not just your legs. The sheer amount of stress on your body from moving big weight around improves your overall strength and composition.

Not to mention you're going to look out of proportion. The number of guys I've seen over the years that take your approach that then seriously regret it is pretty significant.

Leg training sorts the men out from the boys.

Squats fire the anabolic furnace. Doing heavy squats and dead lifts make your whole body grow!

Big13's picture

I dont use squats as a mass builder more as a core strength builder..i feel all my lifts develop better if I squat then on points in training when i had to give it up due to knee surgery...but i never max out anymore..not even on a leg press sled...so yes i still work legs, calves and mine are Huge!...

kodiakGRRL's picture

It hasn't been proven that doing legs will actually assist you in creating a bigger upper body however, what I tend to see in real life is that the people who train both upper and lower body consistently tend to have better results over all....
plus, you don't want to end up looking like sponge bob with some big ass shoulders and teeeeeny tiny legs... lol

Here is my take on legs. Supposedly you have more testosterone in your legs and when you do them, it spreads throughout your whole body causing you to grow. Hence the term "Big trunks, big branches." I personally don't mind legs, I do them 1-2 weekly. I dont want to look like " Spongebob square pants". Sb photo sb_zps56f07190.jpg

Train your legs or you will end up with CLS (Chicken leg syndrome). Training legs also helps the rest of your body to grow.

You said it "Yes my upper body looks bigger than my lower body".. Train legs broham.. No cutting corners.. Go 100% hard or go home..

extremediezel's picture

the reason i train legs as hard as possible its because, i love pushing my body to the max, its one body part that most guys at the gym don't have. you can go to most gyms and you will spot a guy with big arms, nice chest, wide back but, when it comes to calves and legs that's always more impressive in my eyes..
