Any bouncer/door man security guys here? Need a little advice.

I got some unexpected expenses coming up so I might need some extra cash, however I can only work weekends and Friday nights. People ask me at the gym if I bounce and people have asked before as well.
Any advice on how to apply for this job, I figured I'd ask here since you obviously gotta be big and intimidating.

RustyhookerSome places require guard card. Ask when you apply. Not like the old days. Lol. Not an easy job but you'll be able to spot/read people in no time.

OpticultI've worked at 3 joints before bro, walk in there with a tight ass shirt or a tank top and ask if they need a doorman, the bigger you are the better. Guard card is nto necessary.

i knew the owner so there was really no interview process or anything. even though i could do pretty much whatever i wanted to i really didn't like it all that much.
so yeah it helps to know someone im sure, if not the owner or a manager at least another guy that works the door.
best way to get inside is knowing someone there.. i would check out the bar/club and ask the bouncers already employed there, if you are a big dude you will get a call if they need anyone

Just go apply... security or floor host or whatever is a turn over job. Put on your "I won't kill anyone" attitude and use words like talk to a person or coerce them outside... say never put my hands on them.
If they ask how would you get someone outside, say this: I would try to relate, make them feel right, put my hand on their lower back to maintain control, and if all else fails ask to see their ID. Everyone will follow you when you have their ID. That and "I can't hear in here man, come talk to me outside real quick"... That's the easiest.
Those are the keys. And during your interview you'll be asked how to handle a fight... obviously choking them out is a no no... maintaining control and the safety of other patrons is a clear first priority and then the safety of yourself... then his safety. If you ever beat someone up the first thing you say is he fell... no cop will ever press charges against you unless you really do beat the shit out of someone for no reason.
How do I know? I was security manager at the top club in this city for 4 years... It's a turn over job. Go when they open and ask for a application. Simple.

All on the laws of your city I guess but I've never heard of a guard card.
Honestly when I did hiring and someone mentioned class g licensing or armed guard licensing it was a red flag to me. It screams hostility because you go from the class, where you protect an asset, to protecting the club. My concern as your manager is club safety, not a specific person.
As for needing more. ... no. Just interview and if they say you need more go get it. More than likely you don't. If you can always ask to move to the front door and check IDs. There is no liability on you and you make extra bucks from tips.
A college bar? No. Screams trouble. Go to a night club where there is a vip presence and bottle service. You'll make more money there with less drama. Scope out the club. Make sure it's not thug ghetto or anything to save yourself from the bullet wounds.

Get the guard card, working doors is fairly simple work, if you can stand the drunk riff raff all night. I did it for a couple years at a college bar. Just remember, always try to talk somebody out of the bar, smashing their face into the pinball machine is the last resort.

Big and intimidating is good, but being able to assess situations and remain calm is most important.
