+ 1 SSRI's and Side effects
I was prescribed SSRI's (Prozac) over 23 years ago for Migraines. Prozac was a new drug and was kinda used for a little bit of everything going wrong up in the melon. Little did I know that over the course of the next 22 years I would still be on them, changing many times to other kinds (lexapro, zoloft, pristique, etc.). They seemed to work somewhat but I had no idea what they really did to the body in the long run. My personal experience.
1: They alter your mood, no highs and lows just somewhere in the middle at all times.
2: They can kill your sex drive especially trying to get off.
3: They slowly stop working after a bit of time and you will need to switch kinds and doses.
4: They can blunt your personality and make you a cold heart robot, especially around the ones you love. (Divorce)
5: They can cause suicidal thoughts if you ever change your dosage or stop using them.(Been Here twice) fuck lexapro!
6: They literally change the chemical makeup in your brain, hence your personality is along for a fucked up ride.
7: One day you wake up in your late 30's to early 40's and you discover you have low Test. Studies have shown that SSRI's alter and reduce your FH and LSH hormones. I was an athletic person with no past steroid use and my Testosterone tested in the mid 200's.
I really do think they are evil lazy drugs that has effected my life and my body.
Do any of you guys/girls have and similar experiences or research showing that SSRI's fucked up your bodies natural production of testosterone?
PS. Don't let your family get on these Shittty drugs. The Dr's push them like candy I know there has got to be a better way.
Thanks

Don't worry.
The first novel antidepressant in 40 years is about to become FDA approved (in the next 3-5 years or so - its at breakthrough status at the moment and entering phase 3).
Approx 80% success rate versus 20% for ssri's.
Anti-addictive
Pretty much 1 dose need (maintenance at say 6 months e6m, for some).
Remember where you heard it first. I posted about it here about 2 years ago.
Better times are ahead of us.
Psilocybin.
Yep.
Munched an 8th of those two years ago lol
Isn’t mdma still in phase 3 for ptsd?
Yes mate
It also has breakthrough status and yes, has entered phase 3 trials, across in US Canada Europe
MAPS still recruiting now I think.
Psilicybin and mdma can both cure PTSD with 1 or 2 doses
Wish I was closer to one of the centers conducting the trials. I had my data taken by a doctor for ketamine treatment years back. Damn prescription is some $600-800 so I can’t afford to fill it. I wonder how much they’ll charge once these ones hit the market
Do you have ptsd??
Unfortunately
Haven't been on in awhile. Hope all you guys are well. I agree with everything above. Currently on prozac over twenty years. Honestly scared to get off. Tried several times. Thought I was going crazy. Was ready to end it. I remember feeling these little almost like electrical zaps in my brain. I know that doesnt make sense. hard to describe really.
Deffinetely a cold blah feeling being on them no ups and downs just even keel across the board. Very much like other drugs feel like shit on them. feel like shit trying to get off them.
My unprofessional opinion is that they should be a last resort and always used short term.
I was on Paxil many years and got laid off from a job. I lost my insurance and came off of them cold turkey. I remember those brain zaps. They were horrible.
I had the brain zaps trying to come off Lexapro. I thought I'm tough I'll wait it out, 3 months later (brain zaps never went away) I'm suicidal and ready to go back on SSRI's.
Why did someone neg a thread like this? Its informative and doesnt hurt.
Jesus, this starts to look like reddit.
WTF is reddit?
To call it in some way, its like a massive forum where anyone can create subforums called "subreddits" dedicated to anything: news, politics, cars, funny videos, steroids, broscience, art, lamps, furniture, some tv show, some videogame, birds, drugs, prepping, food... you name it.
A lot of people there just neg you for any stupid reason: they dont agree, they dont like you, they hate the world... any innocent comment can be negged.
I find theres no reason at all to put you a negative here, so this is why i said it feels like reddit. You are just a guy telling your experience and you are asking for a normal question, i dont see why anyone should put you a negative.
I'm sorry, I was joking. I know what reddit is! I appreciate your detailed respone though.
Yeah, I'm just trying to post on things i might be able to give a little insight on. I'm not going to lose sleep on what's fair or not.
I have always thought they were a bad thing ,a crutch a mind fuck. Why be the drueler in the corner . embrace the real you. After getting into recovery I saw it as an excuse to not do a thorough inventory and take responsibility for my thoughts and actions.
Until I had anxiety so bad I couldn't function. Like a doberman barking constantly in my face all day and knight. Couldnt focus on what was right in front of me . Relationships failing . Work failing me failing. I talked to my doc . He recommended zoloft. I had no other options really. So I took it. In three weeks the barking went from right in my face to from the neighbors yard. It did not fix the problem but it made it quiet down . Then I was able to look at the situation for what it was. I was able to be honest and see my part in it. It was resentment and fear. I was then able to find a solution for my problem. After really giving my situation the correct attention I worked through it. I did owe some ammends. Mostly to take responsibility for my actions. The ones I was blaming others for. The ones that caused the barking dog to come . When I did the work I then started to ween my self off. I dont take nor do I need them any more. The process took about three months and I have a new understanding. A new pair of glasses you could say. I would not have been able to do that with out them. Are they dangerous? Yes. Should it be a med for the rest of my life ? No. Just a tool to get my life back. Am I doctor with full knowledge of how any one else should use this medicine? NO
Bill hear you, I completely understand. I'm currently halving my dose trying to ween off zoloft. It's not going to be easy but I want to give a try again.
Please use that smarts and do it under the care of your physician. This is a dangerous thing. Fr sent. If you need to talk feel free to pm me. I'm not a dr. But I have a good grip on personal inventories. Some people have an imbalance and some have deep rooted fear and resentment. Im sure by now it is a good mix of both.
My friend got really bad gyno from antidepressants, I'm sure you saw the commercial of the class action lawsuits against it. He had to have surgery. He now uses thc for his depression and it works better than the mood crushing ones the doc had him on.
My ex wife was on Prozac. I think like you said it makes you not passionate about anything including the people you love so I don’t think she felt love anymore. It was a bad relationship anyway so the divorce was a good thing no kids so it wasn’t that ruff. She still had a good sex drive though.
The mother of my kid got on it and we were having sex and she wasn’t nearly as wet as she would be and I asked her what was going on and she said she didn’t know, she just wasn’t into it, so she dropped the Prozac and sex drive went back into hyperdrive with her. Her problem wasn’t in her head her life was just kind of depressing.
Molinin302Bro, great post! I went through some things and the doc started getting overzealous with the script pad. Lexapro, Prozac, a couple things I forget the names of, then finally Klonopin. I've talked about it before on here, I developed an addiction that almost killed me. All that stuff is poison, the klonopin worked great for a while, but I payed a horrible price for it. Crushed my test levels as well.
Thanks. Klonopin tried to destroy my wife! I've seen that shit to.
Molinin302Had she gone through a withdrawal? My wife had to see it. Put it this way, before she called the ambulance for me, I made my peace with God. And I'm not religious. But I was pretty sure that day was the day. I'm lucky to have her.
She got really down on life and tried to take 14 at once. There is way too much i'd rather just not go into.
For me SSRIs are totally brain killers, up's and dows every fucking day, bad sleep, high bp, no appetite...I got some in April when I lost Job cause Covid, 4 weeks again I was not even able to come out of the bed, I trow it away and 5-6 days later I was "normal" again. If I have depressions I'd never use this shit again.
Thanks, I used to crush the stairmaster back in the day too!
