Yesterday. My gym opened back up, but we need to make reservations in advance. I always do legs first. So I opened up with Squats, Deadlifts, Leg curls, and Stairs for 30 minutes. My legs are dead and using the shitter sucks, but I'd have it no other way. Knock out the worst, first. But hey, leg day is my favorite day. I'm just happy to be able to lift heavy things. I only hope they stay open this time.

Hardest workout day in the last week would be having to tell my wife her meatloaf was good. I had to muscle up a ton of excuses not to eat it

Bill G's picture

Just go with the "its not in my macro list babe, sorry I wish I could"

Slowly's picture

Cucumber friend you don't need so many series and meaningless repetitions. All it takes is one fundamental for large muscle groups and perform a 4x8 with weekly progression, without neglecting the T.U.T. While for small muscles I do a 3x12-15.
It is also important to understand how often you train.
Clearly if you do 130 pullups and 260 tricep pushups when you train your arms? The next day? Another 150 repetitions? lol.

Obviously this is what I do and it's not a rule.

Halsey's picture

I've been training this way for over 8 years. I have a system which is not for everyone for sure. I'm not looking for bulk what so ever. I appreciate the advice. I used to do alot of obstacle races, I've road ragbrai(biked across Iowa, 502 miles in 7 days), I won locale 5k races, ran over 1000 miles during my lunch hour for 3 years straight, I broke my hang clean pr 2 weeks ago at 225lbs, I've ran half marathons, I'm a off brand crosfitter, deadlift close to 400lbs, basically I changed my lifestyle when my health started to fail in my mid 30s. My triglycerides came in at 805 and i had developed nafld( had 2 biopsies). I'm doing what works for me, I love it!

Slowly's picture

In fact, you need to understand how you train and what the objectives are, if any.
This should not be underestimated.
Training, nutrition and recovery are the ingredients for muscle growth, whatever style you want to use.

Halsey's picture

It's more about muscle endurance than size for me.

45yo doing this beast work out .

I applaud you +1 .

Makes younger guys at the gym look like lazy bitches , honestly most of those fuckers just stand around and talk .

Makes no sense , paying $50+ gym membership to just talk .

none of them Work out , they lift some weight yes but none of them Actually workout much less know the difference between the two.

Halsey's picture

I hear you, if they are stronger than me, then I just out work them. If they are really cocky, then let's go for a run(my pr for 5k is 19:42, 2016). I do like being around kids that want to work hard though. I've helped 4 kids train for boot camp over the last few years. It's always my pleasure to help people that are interested.

3rd leg, upright, every morning, lift? I not understand

3rd leg is never upright in the morning any more.

Don't forget about your incontinence too.

With out crying about my aches and pains. Last friday was the first I've i could hit chest and shoulders in months. (Right shoulder is bad) not sure why.
My home gym is a squat rack and bench. Also have dumbbell from 5 to 75 lbs every 5 pounds . With a good warm up then did chest press to failure (pyramid) start with 40's 12 reps. Up to the 75's 3 reps at max. Then back down to 20's. 5 pound steps. Super set with bent over rows with 90lbs. Kept that the same weight sets of 8 just to keep balance. Also squats in-between. Low weight- low back is also falling apart. Some times I wonder why I do this to myself. Surly over did it cause yesterday I about couldnt get out of bed . Am going to eat a bunch today and do it again. Oh and screw running! I did a bunch of burpies though quit counting at 60 of those. There it is, my old broke down skinny ass work out of the week

Halsey's picture

Everybody does what they can, I avoid burpees at all costs. They jack my knees up! God I'm such a pussy. No foolin

Bill G's picture

As far as knees go its the part of me that isn't falling apart. Prolly cause my back won't let me work them too hard. Its way i don't run. At about a quarter mile my right leg just t turns off because of nerve damage at my s1-L5. Just being rocks grinding together.

Halsey's picture

I got overhead and pressing issues with my shoulders. I dont bench press cause of it. I'm sure almost anybody in their 40s have got all kinds of issues. Just got to work around it the best you can and try to recognize the difference between pain and injury.

I've separated ribs and broke my 5th metatarsal within the last 2 years pushing through pain.

Bill G's picture

I have always had a wide grip at bench. Decided to use a close grip. More of a pin press with my elbows tuck close . It was too much on front delts and tore something. Plus my have stenosis and more disc issues in my neck . ( causes my shoulder muscles to work then not work. ) went too much and then got to take a few months off. Just to reach up to take my hat off was excruciating. Figured I'd let it alone for a while. Seems to be better but not going heavy for sure. Its still angry. Sux I've backed off the food and the gym . Looking like a regular dude that just works hard . It goes quicker than it comes thats for sure.

Halsey's picture

Close grip works for me if I dare look at bench press. Tricep pushups dont hurt at all. But anything wide and pushing is like a lightning bolt explosion of pain.

Halsey's picture

Thanks, that's pretty common. I'm a glutton for paIn and suffering. Like I said, pain and cardio is my mental outlet.
