-1 Question about running and being relatively big

ad

Hey guys my stats are I am 33 about 243lbs and about 12% bf ..been training for 15yrs and anabolics for almost as long ..
Here's my question .. I do realize I am heavy..when u was younger I would be ripped and weigh about 218. ..for whatever reason I can't seem to get to that weight..I want to run but at this weight I'm having a lot if problems ..I used to run miles at 218 lbs..I enjoy it and was looking to maybe do a couple of these mud runs they have everywhere now but I can seem to get on a roll with it..I get shin splints and bad pain and pressure in my lower leg areas ..I run everyday hoping to overcome it..I know I can just do elliptical or something without the shock but I want to run..I have tried taking a break from running in hopes that the pain would subside .. It's frustrating because I barely sweat or lose breath but I have to stop and cool down just about everytime.. I want to know if any other heavier guys have had this problem or if anyone at this weight is able to run miles?? Thanks for any advice in advance

Endurance training and heavy weight lifting forge different compositions of muscle types. You can train in both ways but you will have to sacrifice some raw size and strength and have more a bodytype like a crossfitter for the capacity to run significantly. Also, virtually all the steroids diminish cardiac capacity while on them and everything i have used except a touch of winstrol off-cycle gives me back pumps and aches, and bad shin splints that resolve completely when i go off cycle and its out of my system. Swimming is a good way to work in some cardio and keeping stresses off the knees and legs. Another trick is to use more incline on the treadmill so you can cruise at a slower pace and complete the same caloric burden. Try 10% incline and walk 4 mph. My legs and back can tolerate that on cycle but not running.

Be careful with them "shin splints" what we think is shin splints can also become tibia stress fractures. That is what happened to me, most people quit running when the pain gets so bad when you stop running that you have to crawl back to your truck. Not me! It took months of abuse for me to wake up and it was too late.

It has been five years now since I stress fractured them, I thought I was healed, wrong! Started playing soccer a little bit and boom, the pain is right back. So now I stay back in goal. I have found the arc trainers are a great way to get cardio, you can play with resistance and height pretty well.

Running is real important to me, its just a different satisfaction beating those pr's. I really wanted to see what it would be like to be bigger than. i ever had been not long ago. i set s goal of 185lbs snd i got there. I realize to most of the. guys here that is nothing bbut at 5"8 and with my frame i was pretty proud of it. The problem is I've always trained with a leaning more towards endurance which few people understand and it diminished my running capacity by around 25% or worse. so I'm comfortable hovering around 170 and running cycles that actuallly enhance my performance. i would also like to run a tough mudder next yr, they have one around 20 miles away from me and if i place wwell i may travel to a few more.

Maybe try cycling, you will be outdoors and not have the ground force impact. That may get your weight down so you can start running again. Depending on your budget, go to a reputable bike shop and get fitted for a bike this will help make it more comfortable to ride.

Been 200 plus pounds most of my adult life. I love to run but had to finally give it up for these same kinds of reasons; bruised bones in my feet, plantar fashitis (sp?), IT band pain, shin splints, pain under the kneecap, back pain.

I hate every form of cardio except running, so it sucks to give it up, but what can you do?

I use to run marathons way back when. While a bit heaver it did hurt to run, I thought my running career was over. I changed my diet and lost 15 lbs, BOOM can run longer and with less pain. I then had to make a decision be a runner or a lifer? Running cut my lifting in half, so the decision was easy, Lifting won

change your diet ..lose some weight.. ease into running gradually start off on the treadmill and alternate between running and walking.. warm up.. stretch everything.. conditioning is key .. I m 45 years old and I can put the weight on and take it off at will by this point by making small changes in my diet.. I only weigh about 20lbs less than you

My running days are over. I'm 37 and about the same weight as you and my knees hurt. They hurt from squats and leg presses. I pin low dose deca all the time and it does help but they still ache. I can't even run on the treadmill anymore. Elliptical only for me anyways. Good luck bro.
