Found a gym I’ve been going too. It’s a hefty fine if caught though...

Eagles 2013's picture

There is a privately owned gym in the town over from me that stayed open under the radar but the owner was charging $7 per visit. As bad as I miss lifting I couldn't bring myself to spend more in a week than I normally do in a month on membership fees.

Bulkdaddy's picture

About the same here. If caught it’s a 5g fine. So the money has to be worth the risk

press1's picture

Bloody hell! What's the fine to the Gym owner then?

Eagles 2013's picture

Gyms here have the green light to open tomorrow but mine announced today that they are still staying closed indefinitely. Bummer

Spark's picture

A lot of LE workout and take gear. So if its local LE maybe let them in to workout and throw them a few bottles of gear to get out of the fine..,lol

Spark's picture

Funny thing is in the gym I go to I would say 85% chance it would work. Problems is once the other LE that go there find out they would pack the place and get it shutdown. Have local PD, County, Corrections, State Police in there that are all younger meatheads....lol

Spark's picture

Back in the day the local boys use to be violent drunks working on their 3rd divorce. And with no cameras they would just beat the shit out of you if you didnt show respect..,or a certain skin color. Things were very different. These dudes were miserable, angry and a lot gambled big time on sports.

Yeah with cameras everywhere things have changed a lot. This younger generation is different. I get along with all of them in the gym.
But yes LE and fireman should be in shape and allowed to take gear if they want. Shit it could be your family or your life on the line if these guys cant do their job do to being out of shape.
Our EMT's which do ambulance transport to the ER are either skinny or obese. So if you are a big dude they need to call the fire dept. to help get you down the stairs and into the ambulance.

Eagles 2013's picture

One of my buddies has been going and told me about it. I looked them up online and thier website is a Facebook page if that tells you anything. It looks like a dumpy place that would fit the bill. I mean it's got weights and would get the job done, but also looks like the kind of place that would be ran by someone keeping it open during a public health crisis and profiting on the situation.

I will be back in on Monday :). Gyms open in my area Friday morning but I am going to give it until Monday to let them work through through everything and start back clean with a full week. I got a great head start cutting for Summer because I started 6 weeks early due to no weight room. I am just going to keep with the cut but obviously throw weight training back into the mix. I dropped 15 lbs in 6 weeks and expect 3-4 to come back pretty quickly when I add resistance training back and up my carbs a little to account for that, but all things considered I am stoked to get back at it!

Spark's picture

Did they say anything about restrictions in the gym. Such as social distancing, wearing a mask, limited amount of members at one time?

Eagles 2013's picture

For two weeks before it closed they had every other cardio machine "closed" for distancing and all of the group classes were canceled. They sanitized the free weight area much more often but they didn't limit capacity. I imagine it will be something similar starting tomorrow.

Eagles 2013's picture

I have been working from home as a result of the pandemic as well so I've been doing 45-60 minutes of fasted cardio in the morning and then core + bodyweight push/pull exercises in the evening. My goal is to take the lemons and make lemonade by taking the time to focus on leaning out while also fighting off as much muscle loss as possible.

ArmDayToday's picture

I have a marcy home gym, bench and dumbbells but that shit never feels the same as the gym lol. Just trying to at least maintain at this point

felony's picture

I've got a couple sets of dumbbell's at the house. My girlfriend and her sister and the 45's. Yesterday I grabbed the 45's and went up and down the staircase until I could barely walk.

Jthee35's picture

Haha I bet you are ready for this shit to be over then!

I’m not even joking. I feel like I’m having gym withdrawal symptoms.

Jthee35's picture

Anyone out there with just a bench and weights at home looking for a challenge I recommend you research Smolov jr bench workout! There is an app called Smolov Calculator to set it up for you. This is a killer bench routine as I’ve done it a few times. Definitely need a spotter though. Just a suggestion to have a challenge. It’s a 3 week program.

After nearly 38 years of regular training, having no gym has affected me both mentally and physically - and not in a good way. I know that almost everyone here is in the same boat, so my situation is not unique.

I ran into a former neighbour in my subdivision the other day (he moved a few blocks away) and remembered that I had once seen some equipment in his yard. He's grossly overweight and has never worked out - so I asked if I could borrow what he had.

He loaned me a home gym bar with 30lbs of weights, and a single dumbbell of 30lbs, no bench, and all as rusty as shit. I got stuck into them all with a wire brush and some WD40 and they kind of came up ok (still get rust on my hands). So now I just try to do toning exercises - bicep and tricep curls, overhead presses, bent-over rows and flyes.

I still do crunches, push-ups and some Tai Chi for flexibility. It's not much - but it's something I guess. Although, I really miss my aerobics (treadmill/exercise bike) because at my age the metabolism slows and it easy to gain weight if you don't burn those calories, and also aerobics are good for the heart.

I’m definitely feeling your pain bro! I’m still working ( essential) so life is a little normal but stress is very high! I do cardio everyday at home but it’s just not the same! I’m hoping we are on the downhill side of all this and we can get back to normal soon! Peace ✌️ bro!

Thanks mate. Yes, we all have our difficulties, and mine are no worse than many others - at least I have food, shelter and an income, which is a lot more than so many people. I also hope we are on the downhill side, but it's going to be a long time before things are normal again. Take care there bro.

I’m doing liquor tasting not sure which is what but I just drink them shot by shot. Cheers

Man this no gym struggle is real! I bought some resistance bands and I can get a halfway decent workout with them but it’s still not the same. I was 3 days into a cycle when this started so I’m waiting to see what happens but it’s looking like I won’t have summer physique that I wanted

I’m assuming you was cutting. Just cross your fingers and keep the test levels high! Keep the good stuff as this will pass! ✌️ Bro!

Honestly ive noticed myself get really down not being able to go to the gym. I have equipment at home to get by, but its the enviornment and people around that i miss. Where i work out everyone is very uplifting and supportive of each other so i miss the positivity.

But that aside its brought me a lot more time to spend with family, my dog, friends, etc. Guess this whole situation has had its pros and cons.

Jthee35's picture

Yes but the sooner we get back to normal the better! I want my summer time!! Ha

Gym Closed.....sat on my ass for 2 weeks.....Corona lockdown still in effect.....realized these gains ain’t loyal and these gyms won’t be opening up anytime soon

Was able to get some nice resistance bands

300 LBS of rubber hex dumbbells

So back to the grind.......

There’s some Used Rogue gym equipment I found if this goes beyond May

This is my therapy......I need it now more than ever

Gigel's picture

It's easy when you put your mind elsewhere for awhile. p.s: That's the theory, I've been struggling with getting some weights from internet everyday.. no luck, out of stock haha. Cardio? Not even once, no thanks, nada

Hunter2400's picture

I'm using this time to focus on other parts of my life....I needed somewhat of gym break anyways. I'll start biking and i have enough in my garage to at least maintain in another week or two.

Adambrowne95's picture

Struggling with it mentally and physically I really hope they open them soon. Just trying to stay optimistic and hope they open after Easter when the rules are reassessed (in UK) and sticking with my mini cut to continue getting leaner til I get back to training again

Jthee35's picture

Keep doing whatever cardio you can to keep stress levels down! Stress can kill a good cut!

fortunately im still lucky enough to be working so im cycling too and from work every day aswell as an ab curcuit every other day. One thing ive been doing daily are vacuums and im sire im already seeing a difference from them. Saying that though I also feel much smaller now the muscle is starting to get a different look from just doing bodyweigjt stuff and not in a god way lol

Bill1976's picture

I have been looking online for a weight set. People need mo eh at this time so I’m hoping to have some luck.

ashop's picture

I needed the break myself and I probably would have never taken it. I still have access to a couple gyms and most likely will resume after a 2-3 week break.

growthman's picture

X2 I needed a break too

Jthee35's picture

I have access to a gym with a small group of friends but with me preaching to my kids to stay away from groups and others I’d better just practice what I preach! This is just temporary!

One day I realized I was that guy ...
You know the one that likes to talk random bullshit while showing off his biceps ?
Yeah that guy.
So in order to protect others from me I started buying all my own weights .
Haven't been in a "gym" in 2 or more years.
Also I am an expendable cough cough essential employee.
So nothing has changed. Other than I have to strip and shower immediately when I get home.

Jthee35's picture

I’m definitely thinking about transforming the basement now to an iron paradise. Yes I’m one of the essentials as well. Luckily my kids are grown I’d I’ve distanced myself from them and my mother who has COPD but hey we talk on phone couple times a day. This will pass at some point I’m sure.

I've been on the same plan. Low carbs, high protein and extra cardio. Trying not to go insane without the gym.
