+ 2 KETO... day 2... Going crazy...
ad
Calling all keto vets! GearHead the MAN get in here lol. Just started my super strict keto diet at 300g protein 100g fat and I'm sooo hungry all the time. But that's not the problem, the problem is I crave some good tasting snacks between meals. Chicken and tuna with no rice or bread isn't much fun. Steak is okay but am a lil tired of it as I've been eating a lot of it before starting.
What are some good tasting keto snacks, to keep me sane on my journey to shreddedness?
Much Appreciated!

Water is your friend if your crashing carbs. You cant drink enough.
just wanted to drop. my 2 pennies in by saying, hard core man! a full keto diet is not an easy thing to do, my will power has always been on point and going keto was harder on me than quitting smoking back in the day, personally I'll just cycle moderate to low carb days and let good ole time work for me. best wishes brothers!
So what you're trying to say is that kryptonite and keto has something in common...
Seriously though I think I've found my craving deterrent. Everytime I want a carb I have a cup of strong black coffee. Boom, don't feel like eating til the next meal!
Kryptonite is the brand name while ketonite is the generic name.
Please no source checks.
valhallas bestFr request sent I'm gonna be doing this... We could motivate eachother n shit
I am baffled how you guys can give diet advice without knowing how old the person is how much they weigh and what their body fat is.
It's not a one size approach to dieting, dieting should be tailored to the individual.
6' 220lbs, see my after pic in my profile for body fat
I think you are spot on with the protein based on my guess of your bodyfat (16-18%). The only thing I can recommend for you is incorporating a lot more MCT's into your diet if you are currently not doing so and run a modified Keto diet.
Personally I am not a big fan of the classic Keto Diet (4 to1 ratio which puts your protein at about 200 g max) . I think calories should be elevated then what is recommended under classic Keto Diet. But that is just my two cents.
PS: I would push the protein as much as possible while utilizing keto sticks to verify ketosis If you want to stick to a classic 4 to 1 ratio.
Maintaining muscle is of great importance so I'm not going below 300g protein. As for MCTs would feta cheese be a good enough source?
Use all natural peanut butter instead. No diary at all.
I concur with your statement about keeping protein up but realize that this will no longer be a classic keto diet. (One of the reasons I don't like classic keto diets, the other being too restrictive on calories)
"As for MCTs would feta cheese be a good enough source?"
Um..................No
Your best choices for MCT's would be coconut oil and palm oil. Now I would recommend that you research this topic really well. Because MCT's are known to elevate both LDL and HDL there is some controversy on how much you should use and that is beyond the scope of this post. I personally like both in moderation.
Hope this helps.
phil113kgTry supplementing your diet with a fiber supp. Also add some good oils to your meal to slow down the digestion. I use omega 3 from salmon gels with each meal to feel satisfied. The rest takes discipline. Search Dave Palumbo on youtube about this very subject. He's the expert on this matter.
Would adding a tbsp of olive oil to meals be fine?
Yes w dinner
I thought Keto ratios were generally 65% calories from fat and 35% from protein (occasionally people like 5% worth of carbs at most), since the protein can apparently convert to glucose within the body at high enough levels, stopping ketosis if the protein numbers are too high. Right now you're at 1200 protein cals and 900 from fat which is well away from that ratio. You'd want to be at about 1300 from fat and 700 from protein, which works out at about 150g of fat and 170g of protein. The higher amounts of fat generally help with the increased hunger and why most people who run keto generally find hunger isn't as much of an issue. I know from experience when I ran keto i always felt full, on less cals than normal.
Just buy ketostix and experiment.. I never came out of dark purple (a lot of ketones) with high protein
Isn't 170g protein too low?
Well its based on your total calories, while you could increase protein to 220g for 1g/lb body weight, you'd probably need at least 2500 cals to make it work within a keto diet. It is supposed to be a very protein sparing diet so you may need less than you would normally. Personally though I wasn't a big fan of keto when I ran it. It was good for fat loss but absolutely killed my strength in the gym. I've found that reducing calories works better than manipulating particular macrinutrients for me.
Looks like I need to research a little more into these ratios. Maybe I'll up the fat and drop protein to 250 to get me closer. Way I see it is high protein on keto would be somewhat more forgiving on us than it would be on someone going about this natty.
Pick your favorite cheese and get a block of it.. it feels filling and youll still hit full out ketosis in a few days.. make sure youre drinking lots of water too.. I take it you have ketostix.. those are really great for motivation each time it turns a darker color.. after the first week the cravings wont be nearly as bad
Will Gouda or cheddar do? Thinking of getting one of those big cheese wheels
Have you tried jarlsberg? It's really good.. I could live off that stuff and it has less carbs than gouda.. it gives me a pleasently full feeling when I get carb cravings.
Quest Bars have always saved me on low/no carb diets. There has been a lot of debate on the actual carb count in these, but I've personally been successful getting to 7% bf while eat 1-2 of these a day.
It gets better after the first few days but there's a few little tricks you can do to reduce those hunger pains. I would drink a big glass of water before I ate and sometimes a carbonated diet soda after, it seem to help. For a snack you can munch on a bag of pork rinds. I use pork rinds to coat my chicken and fish, so I can have crunchy fish and chicken with no carbs!
I do the pork rinds thing myself so I can attest to the fact that it really works well.
Yeah their great I also use them as chips for spicy guacamole or a good keto dip.
MMmmmmmm..... Pork Rinds...........
All part of a healthy diet! ;-)
Cheese and eggs does it for me. But you're right, keto sucks and isn't really sustainable. You're gonna end up binging hard, why not just use low carbs, and take them all in by the early afternoon, I'm sure you will see similar results.
I've made a promise I would keep at it 100% for 8 weeks and I swear I will not binge even if my life depended on it!
How do you prepare your eggs, or do you shoot it rocky style?
lol naw, i just scramble 4 eggs and throw some shredded cheese on it before i take it out of the pan... cant go wrong!
What is your body weight and body fat?
How old are you?
