Infections, abcesses and being proactive

So, I just suffered my first abscess and it really messed me up. I have injected my friends hundreds of times and my self just as many if not more and never had an infection or an issue.
I had to get surgery after only four days after the injection and the pain was unbearable. I am wondering. Is there a way to be proactive is you suspect you have an infection?
How do you differentiate pip and an infection ( besides waiting as that caused me to have to get surgery)

Well if abscesses/infections are all fever based, then what I had a few weeks ago was not an abscess, although I believe it really was. There was no redness, no fever, only a soft lump in my delt a little smaller than a quarter and it stuck out to the point that it just looked silly. Anyway, I waited for about a week and it never grew larger or got any smaller. I used a 25/1 to administer, but later went back inside with a 20/1.5 and went in about 1 1/4" and sucked out about 1/2ml of some light pink stuff. Second jab, I pulled out 1ml and when I pulled it out, it sprayed about 2ft and then a steady stream of bloody fluid ran down my arm, and in it it had little black slivers of what I'm guessing was dead tissue. Two jabs later, I had sucked out amost 4ml of thick murky blood and fluid that got darker in color with every new jab. Problem solved, and my arm was as good as new again. I've still got the pics of it somewhere. I'm thinking I didnt go deep enough on that one, and I ALWAYS practice cleanliness so I'm certain I was sterile at my end. Not a good experience that one.
Thanks for all the replies fellas, ya I hope it was rare and it is just scary cause the infection must of been a pretty bad one cause after only 4 days i couldn't move my arm and had to get surgery on it.
It was certainly a scare. The heat to the touch as well as swelling/red area seem like the signs to look for. As well as progressive pain instead of subdued pain.
Anonits one of those things you kind of have to make a call ive had pip that gave me fever in spot red big time all on spot and around and swole ! week later good to go so its hard to tell I know if you see streaks that are purple go to e.r that can be infection and can poison your own blood if im correct luke staff I got that and had to get it cut and drained and stayed in hospital for three days on iv and shit
cdaddy7An access is a dead give away with fever at the site but the for sure thing is drainage....PIP can last up to a week at times but the use of Ibuprofen and a heating pad or a nice hot bath soak usually does the trick...after 7 days and signs and symptoms persist then consider antibiotics if after that no improvement Its time to see an md and ur more than likely gonna have incision and drainage performed....amoxicillin is the preferred antibiotic to have on deck for infection
You can pick antibiotics up at a feed store. Just look for fishbiotics. Its awesome I never go to the doctor.
a quick search on the safety of doing so came up with these tips to choose the correct anti-biotic
1.Find a retailer whose advertising features an image of the medication in mind.
2.Check the color and imprint of the medication using a pill identifier such as that at drugstore.com.
3.View additional pill details, searching for the manufacturer.
4.Next find the manufacturer’s home website and search for products.
5.Under products, search for the same medication with the same imprint and appearance.
6.Make sure the product lists “USP” and “AB Rated.” The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) sets standards for prescription and OTC drugs manufactured or sold in the U.S. An AB rating indicates that the generic in question has been proven to meet bioequivalence to a reference standard (which is generally the brand name drug).
You can get penicillin,amoxicillin,Cephalexin,and tetracycline that I know of. After taking a ton of it I had a huge desire to go swimming.
Also if you stress on fishbiotics I bet you would really think pinning antibiotics for cattle is crazy.Which I have done a lot of times as well.
If the location has a warm feeling to it or it is red and looks irritated then its time to take an antibiotic. Pip will just be sore and possibly a lump that may take a day or two to go away. Remember to be extra cautious when handling your needle. Are you heating your oil up? Some guys are having problems when they are using hot water to heat. Just keep an eye out bro most likely it was a rare thing that won't happen again if you are clean and are pinning right.
If you have an infection or an abscess you should have fever, you could take antibiotics to see if it goes away
Fever at the site is typically a give away.. I've had injections swell up and the pip terrible but they never had a fever.
I have had fever at the site several times. I even had streaks running throughout the injected body part. I recovered on my own but it did scare me.
