ad
hey all, idk if anyone has mastered the thyroid yet but I got my labs back today and I have conflicting results...seems i'm hyper and hypo at the same time...been having trouble balancing my meds
these are my results
Third Generation TSH L.0.09 range 0.55 - 4.78
T4, Free L 0.76 range 0.8 - 1.8
T3, Free 3.3 range 2.3 - 4.2
can anyone explain this to me...I went from taking 120 mgs of naturethroid to 65 mgs. anything above that and I get hyper symptoms yet I have hypo symptoms like weight gain, tiredness etc. dr hasn't been much help :(
thank you.

Low TSH isnt always indicative of hyperthyroid. If the pituitary isnt releasing TSH or responding to or getting TRH from the hypothalamus then your TSH will be down and T3/4 can be low or normal. This isnt uncommon for patients and doctors to have discordance between what synthroid doses, test results and what clinical homeostasis endpoint (how you feel) are settled upon. Alot depends on why you are hypothyroid and taking thyroid drugs to begin with.
i dont take sythroid i take naturethroid its a T1,2,3, 4 & calcitonin med....i dont know why im hypo many women are ....actually far more women are than men....i've been on meds for 6 years...i had all the symptoms of hypo that went away when i started meds....
please describe your diet. You keep mentioning weight gain, tiredness and what not. Depending on your diet if you are in a calorie restricted diet that could be detrimental to your thyroid resulting in full blown hypothyroidism.
I'm just trying to think outside the box because you mention you just started an anavar cycle recently not sure if you are trying to lose weight gain weight or what because all of this stuff could be causing your symptoms and not simply just your thyroid dosage. feel free to pm me if you wanted to ask anything in private.
BigBmajWe need to see the whole picture. Then maybe someone more knowledgeable then myself can chime in. Post up your whole labs.
What was your estradiol?
BigBmajAny other blood work? Like cortisol, progesterone, DHT, all the estrogens, DHEA?
T4 converts to T3 which is much more active. The thyroid you are taking is T3 correct? Its both but primarily t3. So your body doesn't have lots of t4 around because its not being made or put into the equation. If t3 is good you should be good. Low TSH is obvious from years of exogenous T3.
So I wonder about the other levels.
cortiosl is good progest was low but not outta range....dhea was good a few weeks ago didnt test this time & only tested estradiol no other estros my
BigBmajsuper low estradiol will causes those problems you mentioned. And bumping up progesterone would help things too most likely.
Not sure the problem lies in the thyroid dept.
Moving this post to general for more info... this is a serious topic thats needs resolving imo.
Cmon guys... bring what you got in here lets get this sorted please.
No your bloods show you tsh low BUT your t4 is also LOW.
Typically low tsh means high t3/t4. So yea your actual t3 and t4 are what's important. It's okay if your tsh is low if everything else is normal (for the most part).
t4 is only SLIGHTLY off so I wouldn't bee to concerned unless you are having symptoms of hypo.
Now you mention you are taking thyroid meds/supplements are those doctor prescribed? If so why aren't you discussing your results with your doc? If they are NOT prescribed why are you taking them? It's obvious your TSH is being suppressed by the meds, or is your TSH still low without the meds?
I take meds from a doctor I have been on meds for 5 years now...I generally have symptoms of hypo that's why I was put on meds in the first place...I have discussed with the doctor but he's very quick on the phone and just says take this and call me on Monday...but the amount of meds he wants me to take causes my heart to pound and me to get a red flush and I can't stand the feeling so I can't dose up I've been staying around 65 mgs when he wants me to be on 90
When you are on 90mg is your T3 high also? If so your doc may choose to add T4 to your Armour. Armour causes more of a T3 increase than t4, and the higher T3 is what is suppressing your TSH so much.
he hasn't said anything about adding T4 only...I go back to him the end of july...so this is why i'm trying to figure shit out by myself
Okay. Well if you were to be on the 90mg and your T3 was high, then adding T4 would/(should) fix the issue. You would then be able to lower your armour (meaning your t3 won't get too high) and add a low dose of t4.
It would really depend on how efficient your body is at converting T4 to t3. If your body doesn't effectively convert T4 to t3, then adding t4 should be a perfect remedy since you won't have to worry about increasing t3. The high t3 is what is giving you the hyper symptoms you mentioned at the higher dose.
that's what I don't know he should have run SHBG or TBG but he didn't this is why I hate doctors
Yes there are so many variables when it comes to thyroid. TSH/t3/t4 aren't always perfect indicators of overall thyroid activity. It's especially tough for women since women have fewer thyroid receptors than men have.
A low SHBG for you could mean the rest of your body is low on thyroid. Well actually that could be false if you are taking other meds which you didn't mention.
Many other factors are important as well, your diet especially. Vitamin D, iron, other vitamins and minerals, cholesterol, and many other things if they are low or high could also negatively affect your thyroid. Lol hormones are extremely complex, I hope your doc is an endo.
idk I haven't had blood drawn again since 3 weeks ago...it's too soon...
Here's my thoughts. You aren't taking your doctors prescribed dose and you bloods came in. Your results matched your symptoms of hypothyroid. The problem is when your doctor sees he may choose to INCREASE your dose. Because you aren't taking the prescribed dose that makes it harder on your doc to resolve. Not trying to lecture you but just saying the dose you are taking is causing your symptoms and bloods can match that. You truly need to know what your blood work looks like on your actual prescribed dosage. If your bloods came in and showed you were hyper, then you doctor would know to adjust your dose, make changes or order additional bloodwork
but when i go past 75 mgs i get hyper symptoms otherwise i wld already be at 90.... 8 weeks ago i was on 135 mgs. and had been on that dose for 2 years with no probs all of a sudden my labs came back in the 5's and my THS was zero....so i was hyper funny thing is i had no symptoms of hyper...this is all so messed up...
so what you are telling me is that you were fine on 135 then all the sudden you got bloods done and TSH was completely zero?
you say labs came back in 5's. Are you referring to T3/T4 ?
also didn't you start anavar 8 weeks ago?
