Bro, best advice ever right here: Prep all your food the night before and put it into tupperware.

protein bars can be good to keep on hand for when youre in a pinch....i know they are not the best for some peoples diet though.

I'm on the go alot myself.. I prep on Sundays and try to over plan my meals in the morning. I never know what my day has planned for me. I keep extra boiled eggs, can of tuna, nuts, jar of peanut butter, protein bar, bag of chopped spinach/cabbage salad, chicken breast, along with 3 planned meals. And some local cracklins.. life is good but each day can be a mofo.

I’m sure it’s been covered already but I’m lazy and don’t want to scroll. Meal prep a few days in advance you are an adult now and it’s time to buy some good quality Tupperware and a nice blender. In the mornings a good way to pack in protein and carbs is to throw a bunch of good shit in a blender and grab your prepped meals and hit the road. You’ll be amazed at the stuff you can do with a ninja blender.

I’m always on the go too. I try to basically plan my days food in the morning but I still keep a couple meals worth of backup calories handy in case something comes up. I have a few of those insulated travel lunch bags with the inserts that go in the freezer. I always carry one of those with a tub of cottage cheese and fruit or tub of low fat greek yogurt premixed with whey powder, cooked oatmeal in tupperware, cut up chicken and rice, whatever. Just a bunch of good calories you can slam in a jam. If I do just a few days of junk food ill lose my abs so genetics plays a role in what extent you’ll need to go!

my diet as of now is chicken and rice,or pork/beef,potatoes,whole eggs and lots of protein shakes and bars in between....just feel like I need to add more!

It’s time then to study up on calories and macros. Start tracking them and you’ll know exactly what needs to be added.

kevro's picture

I agree! Working on that now, never dreamed I would be counting and keeping up with every gram of my food intake but I guess you have to do whatever it takes.....

Eagles 2013's picture

I wouldn't even count the shakes towards total daily protein intake unless it is immediately post workout or a blend with at least 50% slow digest proteins. Even then, I would only count 50% of the protein from the shake towards daily intake. Absorption from shakes is very poor. Canned meat is typically high in sodium and low in "taste good" but is a great way to get protein in on the go

kevro's picture

What do I look for when it comes to the slow digest proteins???

Greg's picture

Food.

Slow digestive proteins like Casein found in cottage cheese, (add pineapple for even better digestion).
Casein powder is also sold as a shake for pre bedtime consumption.
chicken, turkey (may also help you sleep), steak, and salmon.
peanut butter or almond butter are slow with high fiber content.

Food is always the better way to go. It takes calories and time to break down a chicken breast and you will get full benefit from the protein. A shake is pre processed and passes through you quickly. The protein you're paying top dollar for may not be "bioavailable" as it passes through the digestive tract faster than it can be absorbed.

And he can save money by not wasting it on unnecessarily expensive supplements that are not as effective as the real thing: food.

will do!!

I literally just drank the following at work in order to get my nutrition in and stay on low carb diet:

1) 16 oz unsweetened almond milk
2) 8oz liquid egg whites
3) 30 ml olive oil

Tasted like dog shit but got the job done. That's what I get for being too lazy to buy groceries after the gym last night.

Fucking on point man. That's a grown man's diet for sure! Today was one of those days for me where there there wasn't enough food around to make actual "meals", so you just combine random shit like unsweetened almond milk and olive oil all day to make sure you hit your nutritional goals. That's what getting lazy with meal prepping gets you. All on me, but I still hit nutrition goals so I'm happy.

Don't forget to add bacon. And cut the burger in half so you can wipe up the yoke with the burger. Damn I'm hungry.

Eagles 2013's picture

A lot of it is going to boil down to just how bad you want it to be completely honest. You can always find a reason to rationalize getting shit from a fast food joint BUT you can always find a way to get good, healthy, nutrition packed whole foods as well.

Meal prepping, Tupperware and a food processor are three things that will make it a lot easier.

  • Pre-cook sweet potatoes and eat those fuckers who like an apple when driving.

-Puree raw oats, brown rice (raw; grainy but gets the job done), almonds etc and mix with either a blended protein powder or pureed cooked meat if you can stand to get it down.

-Canned meats

... The list goes on, but there are a ton of good suggestions below.

More times than not it is going to boil down to a question of "how do I eat this" as opposed to "what to eat" when on the go

Raw brown rice!! Am I reading that right?

Eagles 2013's picture

Yes sir. A high quality blender with a solid pulse cycle will turn it into powder. It tastes a little grainy going down but it gets the job done in a pinch.

awesome!!!! i will be trying that....what about raw noodles? been eating those since i was a kid and are actually not too bad.

The Impastable's picture

Mix a solid meal in a blender, throw it in a shaker bottle. It’ll taste like shit but it gets the job done.

Samsonthestronger's picture

No shame in that... we've all done it.

daksmack's picture

I bought:

1) a stupid expensive cooler, but the shit works.
2) 5 stupid expensive shaker cups. 2 of the shaker cups are filled with muscle egg chocolate flavored. 2 shaker cups are filled with MRE lite by redcon1, and the final shaker is gi juice by recon1.
3) 3 air tight Rubbermaid containers. 1st container is scrambled eggs w/bacon. I load 4 table spoons of jalapenos on the eggs. 2nd container is spinach and a chicken breast cut up. 3rd container is a steak cut up with more jalapenos.

The last 15 mins of work I clean everything with dawn soap and a scrubber. Then when I get back i have another shaker ready to go with my pre workout. I keep iso-carbs by man sports, I like the orange flavor, in the car, two scoops post work out. Followed by two steaks before bed.

This is my daily regemant I started two weeks ago. I'll tell you this, if you prepare like this and lift like an animal, you will get results. It's a pain in the ass some days, because it gets old, but stick to the course. I had a chance to meet some x nfl players in Dallas last year, and I asked them the key to successful longevity in the NFL and how do they stay in such good shape post NFL, besides freakish genetics they have, they all said regiment and repetition is the KEY.

Good luck.

I'll get shot down for this as it's not real food but a protein shake is one of the easiest and quickest sources of nutrition about.

You can mix things according to your goals; oats, peanut butter etc. I have 3 a day.

kevro's picture

Been getting alot of my protein thru supplement shakes/bars but someone told me they arent a good source and i should be getting it all in my food...What is your take on this?

Greg's picture

On or off cycle:

Liquid protein does not stay in the digestive tract long enough to be fully digested.

Best to get your protein from food. Your body can absorb nearly all of the protein you eat. Whatever your muscles don't use will be converted to energy.

The maximum rate that whey protein can be absorbed is about 8-10 grams per hour.

It takes one and a half hours for a whey protein shake to pass through the section of the gut that can actually absorb it. So a whey shake will yield about 15 grams of absorbed protein.

So no matter how much whey you dump in that shake you will only ingest about 15 grams of protein. Now the good news:

Digestive enzymes (added by quality makers of whey protein drinks) can increase the absorption rate by up to 125%

They're probably right. They're also probably small too.

Makwa's picture

Even easier than the shakes are the protein bars, unless of course you have the bottled protein drinks, but then you have to keep those refridgerated I guess.

GrowMore's picture

Protein bars are definitely the most convenient of all. Some of them taste incredible also!

vhman's picture

Some of them taste incredible

I’ve missed those! I’ve tried many and the best are barely tolerable.
Any recommendations?

Manshit's picture

One cinnamon bun is very good.

Makwa's picture

Alot of them (most) are pretty bad. I have cycled through a lot of bars and Quest has some pretty good ones. Don't buy a whole box of bars without sampling one first. Dumped many boxes because of that.

GrowMore's picture

X2 on quest. When you've been surviving on chicken and veg for the last few months any kind of variation will taste nice I guess!

A lot are packed full of sugar and crap unfortunately. I've made my own with great success using vita fiber pats and whey protein

The Impastable's picture

OhYeah! Were the shit back when I used to do protein bars.

kevro's picture

So ive been told to stay away from the protein shakes/bars that they arent a good source of protein.....What is your take on this?

Makwa's picture

I'll often have a bar for my mid-morning and/or mid-afternoon snack. It is not the end of the world if you eat a few here or there.

Sam I Am's picture

I have a cooler bag I carry everywhere. Greek yogurt and cottage cheese you can almost drink. Two of my faves for quick protein. Just have to watch the sodium in the cottage cheese,
