+ 4 Food = Gains
I have been noticing people hoping on gear and getting mad at their results. I have a friend who was bitching to me earliar today about "I feel good, but I'm not getting as big as I want. Thinking of upping the dose." Everyone wants to cut corners and not bust their ass, but it takes time and effort. They don't eat enough and I'm seeing a trend of skippin compound exercises, except bench. And it always seems to only be flat bench. Daily protein values are a real thing. Deadlifts and squats are important. I always say food is one of the key ingredients to success with PR's, recomps, and recovery. But it just seems like people think I'm bullshiting them and they say it's the juice or genetics. 4-8 meal diet plan will put the weight on. Just got to be sure to include the cardio if you want the bodybuilder look.
If a fat broski keeps eating, he gains weight. If he stops eating as much, he loses weight. So if you workout and eat up, you'll gain weight. But if you workout and eat less or stop eating as much, you lose weight. Why is this so hard to understand for some? Guess I'm just ranting. Haters will say it's the "StErOiDs".

Shit inputs produce shit outputs.
Eat good/look good!!
Eat like shit/look like shit!!
Pretty much. And simple concept too.
gearboy667I'm trying to lift as much as possible, less food
Trying to lift as much as possible whilst trying to consume less food makes as much sense as a Chocolate Fireguard .....
Good luck broski. Your body wont have the fuel necessary to do the big ones. You'll still be able to lift though. Just not as great. It's kind of like saying you want to go 1000 miles without a full tank. With less food, your recovery time takes longer. Which means slower progress. If you're just dropping weight, and trying to maintain, best of luck.
I hope you are being sarcastic. It is about eating the right foods at the right time. You don't have to starve yourself to lose body fat.
Need food to stay in an anabolic state. If you don't eat you are in a catabolic state. Which you then store fat and the body eats away at muscle. Survival mode built in humans since the beginning of time.
Exactly, that is why I hope he wasn't serious. I've seen plenty of overweight people deal with this. They don't understand why they aren't losing weight when they eat only one meal a day.
Pretty sure Sumo Wrestlers only eat 1 or 2 gigantic meals a day so they don't get skinny.
I think in the 90's it became popular to try and eat no fat at all. They argued that the fat in food was making you fat. Not realizing there is a difference between healthy and non-healthy fats.
Lol I remember this. Now they are promoting the ketogenic diet which has actually been around for about a hundred years. People are eating diets high in fats and proteins with minimum carbs. All these fad diets are a waste in my opinion. I am all for sticking to the basics of macro counting in conjunction with intermittent fasting. Worked wonders for me. I was in near contest prep shape and I was even trying to compete.
Yup they just recycle stuff under different names. Keto was Atkins or South Beach Diet just tweaked a bit.
Nutrition is hands down the most important aspect to bodybuilding
NO question about it. When I see people fail to make gains that are training right, DIET is typically the culprit.
lol this 'issue' has been going on for as long as people have been 'wanting' to get big .... they don't understand how important food training and rest are .... STErioDs are just a tool
Dead ass serious.
Food is the most expensive part of bodybuilding by far. That’s what most people don’t understand. I was guilty of this when I started.
Groceries are $300 every two weeks for me, so I'd agree.
Well, I guess, for people like such, it is very important to understand the concept of bodybuilding/powerlifting fundamentals. There are rules to follow to get things right. If you do not have enough fuel to feed your body, you will only gonna get to a certain point, regardless of all the gear you will use. If you want to get BIG you have to train BIG and eat BIG!!!!
I completely agree. It's a program, a routine.
Dedication, it is the main tool to success, in my humble opinion.
& Consistency - even when it feels like you aren't progressing you have to keep pushing :-)
It's quite interesting, how dedication and consistency turns you in to a person who you might have never dreamed to become!
That's why so many people fall by the wayside after 2 or 3 months of joining a gym, they just don't have the mental qualities required.
Yet another very important thing to do the thing we do, mental strength! Totally agree with you!
I think too many people skip over the importance of proper and hard training. Yes nutrition is important but without busting your ass in the gym..,well you will just be skinny with abs.
Look at Arnold's generation. BB, DB, and some cable machines. They trained the big 3 lifts and trained heavy.
Their training sessions were intense and long. They would have a bucket next to the squat rack because these guys would squat until they puked.
Plus they didn't have the knowledge of nutrition as we do.
But hey with phones and all the ways to edit, Photoshop, lighting and ways to make their picture look better. Not to mention they will take dozens of the same pose. They can look better on social media then in person at least.
Even with a tshirt in person you can tell who puts the work in the gym.
Totally agree with you bro! Reading your comment, CT Fletcher pops up in my head with his way of motivating people!)))
Another part is people will figure out their calorie intake and plan their meals out.
But how many people do you see following a training program?
See people doing the same workout yr after yr..,no surprise they look the same and never get stronger.
I think, just to stick up to the program to start off with, is a great step forward. It is always helpful to have people next to them to help them readjust their routine when needed. Progressing can be more difficult for some, approach plays a big role in it, as well as the time, to figure things out.
And sleep!
People underate sleep.
100!
Where can I buy some of that? If only I could I’d be set.
tiniest bit of weed, vapourised, works wonders for me
Your dreams u mention below, sound crazy!!
My dad smokes. Just bought him a vaporizer for Father’s Day. The solo-2. Me and the wife don’t smoke but on Fourth of July we both took one hit of his weed and I went right to bed. She sat by the camp fire laughing her ass off til she couldn’t breath. It was great seeing her so happy.
I used to do the same! But find out, that within the time it is starting to make a reverse effect on me. I was sleeping, but waking up was too hard and a constant feeling of tiredness was killing me throughout the day. When I have stopped it, I managed to get the same effect, but sober. I think, for me, the trick is that like any anti-depressant, it works well only when it is actually needed.
That tiredness is really just demotivation. I remember when I first started I had this job delivering furniture. I used to like it, then after I started smoking I was like,”man this job really sucks”. Then I went back to college after the summer, and I was like “man school really sucks this semester for some reason”. Then I realized it was the weed. After a while you get used to it and can overcome the demotivation, but to some degree it’s still there if you smoke in any fair amount.
You know what bro, that works for me too, but I have a problem with it and have trouble smoking it responsibly. Then all the food in the refrigerator becomes endangered. Honestly when I stated I started having trouble sleeping when I was 22 is because after a while I couldn’t sleep without it. Just like some people can drink responsibly and others can’t. I was doing good only using it every so often on Fridays in limited amounts sometimes going more than a month at a time getting really lean, then the dam burst, I kind of used the pandemic as an excuse, cause that’s all one really needs, but my life really didn’t change much other than they closed the gyms for a little while. Haven’t smoked since Wednesday, so the crazy dreams have begun again. I do believe it has benefits for some people’s various ailments, like it helps me with sinus infections, which happen to me in the winter only on the right side because I’ve had my nose broken pretty good a couple times. If you ever get one try it, but I think it might have something to do with the smoke drying it out, so you might have to smoke the flower directly without vaporizing it.
Do you have problems sleeping or is it because of kids mate?
I have 1 kid, and she is a good kid, doesn’t cause me many problems. Just trouble sleeping since about 22 years old. She teases me to a certain extent about how easily and deeply she sleeps, but she’s only 13. I remember her mom was a good deep sleeper. She was hard to wake. A good Dutch oven would do the trick though, lmao.
AnonThere's a peptide called DSIP (delta sleep inducing peptide). I've never used it.
I have heard of it, but not tried it. Thanks for the tip. HGH seems to help me a little bit. I used 25 mg Doxylamine succinate which is an oct sleep aid, 7 mg melatonin dissolvable, 750 mg GABA and ZMA last night. Helped a little. My doctor gives me Cyclobenzaprine which is a muscle relaxer which helps, but I don’t take it with the OCT sleep aid, just switch things up to not be dependent on one. Can’t stand the prescription sleep aids. Lunesta in my experience works, but then you can’t take a nap during the day ever because it works by calming your brain waves so then you can sleep without it. It only works for about 7 hours for me. Ambien worked great for the first two days, then my body became tolerant, and it made no difference. What worked best for me and this is going to sound crazy is: 5 grams Arginine Pyroglutamate/Lysine, 2 grams Tryptophan, 1.5 grams GABA, 7 mg melatonin, 200mg 5-htp, 200 mg Theanine, ZMA, 1 gram glycine, and 25 mg mk677. That worked. Many of those are known growth hormone boosters. Had to be on an empty stomach. I would get a mild pulsating in my brain, no bullshit, but I would describe it as a somewhat pleasant. Always wondered what kind of HGH release I was getting from that but never tested myself. Could fall asleep instantly within minutes of laying down. Then I would wake up within 1 to two minutes of falling asleep having already starting dreaming, usually something fucked up like Russian vampires trying to kill me because I knew of there plot to start a nuclear exchange with western nuclear powers to destroy human civilization so they could take control, but there would still be plenty of us as a food source. Usually something apocalyptic. But I’ve been having apocalyptic dreams since I was a child, so I can’t blame the subject matter on my sleep cocktail, the dreams were just really intense. And I would be drooling to. Eventually I just learned to roll with the dreams no matter how fucked up, because if I was dreaming I was sleeping. I worked and I was no worse for the wear, except for how what you dream could possibly affect you psychologically.
Tell him:
- If you want to get bigger you train harder, train correctly, focus, and dial in the diet!
- NOT take more shit.
Then you have the half rep guys. Your better of f removing some weight and getting a full range of motion imo.
As far as the gyms being closed you can still do split squats, pull-ups etc.
Theres the half-rep guys. And lets not forget the over-rep guys. Zero control on the negative, letting gravity finish the rep, or bouncing the bar off the chest.
Just the other day I had to explain to a couple of kids how to do a proper bench rep. Scrawny fuckers, probably 1st time in the gym, bouncing the bar off their chest w/a whopping 2 plates on. Funny. After I explained how to control the rep, pause, etc, they both struggled to finish their sets.
I have more respect for someone that does a squat with 145 lbs to at least parallel..., then I do for an assclown that quarter squats 405 lbs. Then have all his idiot buddies cheer him on as if the quart squat meant anything.
Same with benching. When someone tells me their PR I need to see it to believe. To make sure it was proper form and full ROM.
Molinin302Man i thought the quarantine weeded out the idiots at my gym, theyre returning one by one. Just yesterday i saw a quarter rep guy. Im not exactly sure what he was going for. Saw some newly invented exercises too. And dont get me started on the cables, i feel god invented them purley for our entertainment. And if i see one more guy with a 45 pounde plate in his hand bending his spine to the side like a bananna...
Banana squats are very popular in San Francisco...
Nohomo
Just say to him, “You go all the way down and touch you chest, you come all the way back up! That’s how you bench press!” A friend of mine said that to a guy at the gym and he never came back after that. That could weed them out for you. The guy was using a couple of 2x4’s nailed together on his chest to only go down so far because of those shirts people wear that help them get started coming back up for powerlifting. That guy went on to become one of the top power lifters in the US, so there is that.
I’ve been incorporating old school sissy squats! Totally recommend those. I think I remember seeing them in a book with Tom Platz doing it with no weight! I feel like it’s helped my outer quad sweep development during this Quarantine. What a great exercise; I haven’t seen anybody do them in the gym in over 20/30 years.
