+ 10 FLEXIBILITY!

ad

One of the most underrated qualities of looking young and feeling great is flexibility. Being flexible literally changes the way you move and react. The ability to move easily and effortlessly and have great range in movement affects the quality of your life. Stretch, stretch and stretch more each day!

Those with greater flexibility have less chance of falling or losing balance, and a lesser chance of suffering severe injury in the event of a fall.

Some people are more flexible by nature than others. However, almost anyone can dramatically increase his or her flexibility over a period of time. As with any activity the object is to see progress, but paced and steady progress.

It is almost impossible to go from a rigid and immobile person to a supple and lithe human being overnight. Working on flexibility is very important to your overall success and fitness level.

Increased mobility will benefit you greatly in the gym. Movements in exercise and your range of motion will steadily increase. Increased range of motion means better results and faster results. Every time you work on flexibility and you see and feel a little bit of progress; it's a wonderful thing! The body you live in is able to move, stretch, and exercise better.

People who lack flexibility can literally fear dropping a piece of paper that needs to be picked up. Simple things that limber people can do, can pose serious problems to the person with limited mobility.

Having to get in or out of a car or truck, meeting to lift a case of soda, trying to get out of a low chair or couch, were even something as simple as combing one's hair can pose major problems for the person with flexibility difficulty.

These difficulties can range from inconveniences, to embarrassment, and unfortunately can include minor to major injury. A few minutes a day spent properly can increase flexibility dramatically, and avoid problems like these.

Make stretching part of your daily life, at the gym, home, and the office. The more time you devote to stretching, the better the results will be.

Stretching is also relaxing for many people, and will lower stress levels, and help you get a better night’s sleep. Since lower stress, and proper rest are related to the success rate of bodybuilding the importance of stretching cannot be overstated.

This is a great topic and too often forgotten about which I am quilty of doing myself. About 3 months ago I started stretching for 10 mins each night holding each stretch for at least 1 minute. Holding for a minimum of 60 seconds is very important. I just do simple easy stretches and It’s made a huge improvement in how I feel especially when I wake up. Also stretching after each set in the gym will improve results. Good post brother

+1 for this topic
Honestly I have to say, that I'm mostly too lazy or just forget to stretch. Despite the fact, that it's really important. Thx for reminding me about it!

I find that as I gain mass my flexibility decreases dramatically. Can't even put my hand behind my head. Still is a chore putting socks on though no matter what. Might not have as much to do with flexibility than it does with everything snap, crackling and popping when I kneel down or try to get out of chair.

My wife makes fun of me by showing me these plastic slide things for old people to put socks on then asks if i want one. It would actually be pretty helpful...

Used to do ballet, when we would stretch we would hold for a minimum of 20 seconds, our teacher always told us the stretching hasnt really begun until after the 10 second count. Once we would get our splits down we would use mats for oversplits. Make sure to stretch everyday otherwise you will lose what you gained damn fast.

Tell me you fcuk'd all of the ballerinas or I am negging the crap out of this lol
j/k ;-)

Bro...Taten has no gender specified in the profile, and has a female looking avatar...so even though Taten is an old English boys name, it's possible that 'Taten' may be a woman. That doesn't negate the possibility of f*cking all the ballerinas, but it does raise the alternate possibility that if Taten is a woman - that might not be her motivation for taking up ballet. Just a thought....maybe Taten can chime in on this one.

giardap's picture

Damnit Oz, you're right again. But if you are right, and he/she didn't shag all all of the ballerina's, Taten best raise that test dose.

Ozninjaguy's picture

Well...there's that too. ;-)

He could be Billy Elliot

Nice. A good left field comment. Totally didn't think about that option.

You get two points for admitting that. Arnold took it to.

Yes he took a couple of lessons - but he did it to improve his posing - not for fitness.

I bet arnold banged all the ballerinas though ;)

LOL! - I think that goes without saying.

Great post. Ive recently realized I dont stretch nearly enough, and have begun tho process of folding it into my daily routine. My workouts seem to flow a bit more smoothly when I "loosen up" a bit.

I think stretching is key to recovery and over all health to avoids injury’s. I have made it part of my everyday training. I always do my stretching at night for about 20-30 mins.

This is so true, I’m so lazy and miss this part a lot, need to pay more attention to this

I’ve made a habit of stretching first thing at the gym, about 10 minutes. Then 10 minutes of light cardio. I do this while waiting for the prework out to kick in. It’s a good time to get warmed up and plan my workout.

Solid post! +

I want to briefly add, it is best not to engage in static stretching, at least not before exercise, as it can lead to injury. Dynamic stretching is a far more suitable choice.

Dynamic stretching is the only type of stretching you should do before lifting. Static stretching greatly increases the chance for injury.
