Dislocated shoulder from 8 years ago, doing dumbbell pullovers causing issue
ad
Well I dislocated my shoulder back in high school, took alot of time off. It never bothered me while doing any type of bench/incline/shoulder press exercises. The other day I was doingdumbbell pullovers with a 60 pound , went really deep stretch and tried to bring it up. I got it up but my shoulder almost dislocated.
I was wondering if I should keep doing this with lighter weight to strengthen it? or forget it all together.
Any other tips for strengthening the area would be great too.
but I have no problems or issues/pains with any other exercises, going up to 125 on dumbbell shoulder press/405 on bench.

You can lock the scapula a lot better in pressing movements. In a pullover, the scapula is moving around on the back of your rib cage, especially with deep ROM. For someone with a history of shoulder dislocation, I would advise against pullovers. It may be good to work that pullover ROM unloaded or with a pair of 3-5 lb weights, but I think its in general a more risky movement as compared to a standard pressing movement.
nyerk332yeah I definitely couldn't control it when it got really deep, so I just let go of the weight...
Try ROM without weight for the next two weeks. If u had weight start with very low weight. Do internal.and external.rotation with a rubber band tied in to a permanent fixture. Brush up on your back weightlifting regimen. Some of the backmuscles (serratus?) could be weak...
nyerk332I will get a band to do int/ext rotations, and some exercises from this website I found for rotator cuff
