advice on fat loss

ad

Hey all, I'm a newbie lol. Just looking for different advice on fat loss. I currently train 5 days a week, for almost 16 years now. As far as muscle, I've always been above average strength, at least happy with the way I looked. Never really ripped, but definitely not ashamed to take my shirt off. As I approach my mid 30s, let's just say the metabolism is slowing down. For cardio, I'm currently running 2 miles at a pace of 7 minute miles and then hitting the elliptical for 25 min 5 days a week, I do this after I weight train. I don't have a belly, but that little layer that hides the bottom abs. What are some helpful hints, without cutting out my carbs,,,,,, thanks guys

Set up and count your macronutrients, stay at a bit of a deficit, and walk. Walking hasn't been given enough credit when it comes to burning fat. Low intensity - burns more fat as apposed to glycogen, High intensity - burns more total calories but is predominately a glycogen furnace. Walk for 30 minutes a day and you're golden.

As for the working out in the morning as apposed to other times, I don't see the truth in that. You aren't glycogen depleted when you wake up; carbs don't disappear in your sleep.

I'm sorry but where are you getting the info for your last sentence?

From your last meal in the evening to your first in the morning is the most hours you have without food.
Your levels of glycogen decline to provide glucose for several bodily functions that go on while you sleep.

It's kind of like saying your car does not burn gas when it is idling.

My apologies, I should have worded it better.

In my personal opinion, I don't see morning cardio better than cardio at any other time of the day because the time between a persons last meal and breakfast isn't long enough to put you in a fasted, glycogen depleted state. It also takes far longer than 8-12 hours for gluconeogenesis to occur, which is the main reason people believe in morning cardio to burn fat. The only factor that supports morning cardio is the high cortisol levels in the morning, which can be beneficial to fat loss but detrimental to muscle tissue.

Morning cardio will be burning more calories if done on an empty stomach and your low on sugar in the morning for sure 8-10hrs is enough for alot of metabolism to burn!

I recommend eating 1-2hrs before a workout and immediately afterwords

Thanks everyone for all the tips, I try to keep a healthy diet, but I must admit, I love some treats at night. I'm am def going to try that Tabata, it looks pretty intense. Next week I'm going to be starting a log on here with before and after pics

Man up and cut carbs if you really want to get ripped. Takes a lot of will power though. If that's not enough try doing cardio in the morning before you eat.

Posting in all red letters is not irritating enough. Can you get the text to blink, too?

Yes.
Tabata and other versions of high intensity interval training increase IGF-1 and androgens. Very potent fat burning. It's absolutely critical to be in the anaerobic zone when doing this type of training.

High intensity interval training is about 90% of your max heart rate.
Tabata is near maximal output. Very difficult if you aren't conditioned.
