how come, and i've noticed it a few times, when i get a plus one from somebody my karma doesn't go up? is it like for every plus 2 you get one karma point or something

I have no idea! But, I'll give you a plus one just for asking the question!
Because you need to have atleast 50 karma to be able to give +1 and a lot of people with under 50 karma don't realize this. They hit the thumbs up and it gives you one more thumbs up on the post or picture, but it doesn't increase your karma.
